DAY 1 – “Minerva Williams”

| November 2, 2010 | 1 Comment

It’s still November first in California, and so this is still Day 1 (We are going to tactfully ignore the fact that I don’t live anywhere near the Pacific Coast).

Minerva was inspired by a lady standing in front of me earlier today at the DPS: She had very curly hair that was tightly bunched up in something that was like an afro but wasn’t, and many of of the curls were highlighted, making for a really cool effect. I don’t think I quite managed to portray that in this sketch, though…

But a quick bio of Minerva that I came up with off the top of my head: She grew up in a fairly affluent military family and had always known that she would end up in some career that would make her mother sit awake at night worrying. After moving a few too many times, Minerva opted out of a West Point education for a more settled career as a cop. Over the years, she’s established herself as one of the city’s best, a tough-as-nails woman in a male-dominated field.

  1. I am Minerva Leah Williams,

I did grow up in a military family. But I don’t look like this! Send me your real email and I’ll send you a picture of me and I’d like to see you turn it into a cartoon character. . . And what is DPS? Department of Public Services?

    This one is a little harsh . . .
