#3 Scystera of the Serpae clan

| November 6, 2010 | 6 Comments

(Note – I’ve had a really busy week out of nowhere and got a bit behind, never a good thing in a challenge like this, however, I think I should be able to get back in it this weekend. Got a 4th I’m about to post too.)

So, onto Scystera. The Serpae are a breed closely related to the Gorgon family. While not as ugly as Gorgon’s, namely her great great great aunt, medusa, Serpae does have the power to create partial paralisis in those unfortunate enough to come across her. However, the power to turn to stone is reserved for her more foul relative. Primarily found on some of the smaller islands in the Mediterranean, Serpae are a relatively reclusive clan, not nearly as aggressive as their predecessors.

Wow! I just love your work!

    • TiMrozek says:

Thank you so much. I see you have caught up. Not me, as usual, not as many hours as I think in a weekend. Should definitely have one more finished today, possibly two.

Awesome work, Tim! I particularly love the modeling on the back of the head and the scaly textures. Cool backstory too. Wish I knew more about this type of work. How steep is the learning curve for a program like zbrush, etc?

    • TiMrozek says:

Thanks a lot. I’ve really been enjoying your work as well. The learning curve kind of depends on your background. Zbrush is one of the weirder UI’s and is generally kind of an odd piece of software but once it clicks, it really clicks. It’s nice because you don’t really need another of the mega-softwares like maya or 3dstudio max to create stuff with it. Having some knowledge of 3D workflow helps but isn’t necessary. I’d say in about a month of really dedicating your time, the average person can probably be pretty comfortable with zbrush.

Holy crap, are you doing all 30 days with CG models?? I am in awe. How long does this take you?

    • TiMrozek says:

Yep, doing all CG, at least that’s the plan. I’m a little behind so I’m hoping the rest of the weekend will be kind to me. I may have to take my friend’s advice soon and just slap some googly eyes on some simple 3D models. And thank you so much for your comment. That’ll help keep me working today until I physically can’t anymore. Each piece is taking me about 4 to 5 hours in total. I’m hoping as the month progresses I can get a little bit quicker. This time includes coming up with the story and doing the compositing of the renders in Photoshop.
