#9 – Ms. Daiyu

| November 9, 2010 | 7 Comments

Ms. Daiyu may not look menacing, but you do not want to cross her. Some say she is over 200 years old and has mastered over 387 different forms of martial arts. Her most powerful weapon, of course, is her unassuming demeanor. Her age, and her look constantly give her the element of surprise no matter the location or situation.

I want to hug her so bad, and listen to her stories, but she’d probably shiv me before I could ask. ;`)

You do such realistic work with that program. I could never get it figured out.

    • TiMrozek says:

Oh, to the contrary, I was too tired last night to tell everyone too much about her, but she’s quite sweet. Just sort of the type that you don’t cross. She makes a mean noodle bowl. And she has indeed lived, she’s got some really fantastic stories, not all of which involve single-handedly defeating hoards of invading enemies on her own.

Secondly, I’ll try to get these production videos uploaded soon so you can see how I do some of these faces. Zbrush does allow for a pretty awesome amount of detail. I’m having a great time attempting to master it.

She has soo many subtle details…very realistic! The pupils kind of freak me out. Do you plan to texture any of them?

    • TiMrozek says:

Ha, thanks Dan, yeah, I haven’t decided if a weird carved eye or just a plain sphere is less unsettling. I have yet to have the time/energy to get normal/displacement maps out on decently UVed models so no serious maya renders yet, therefore, no realistic eyes and only average lighting. I definitely intend to texture. I’m really hoping that at some point during this challenge I actually get the energy and time to texture during, however, my plan is to take maybe 5 or so of my favorites and really flesh them out, texture them, refine them, make them into proper showpieces.

I just imagined she had some kind of cateract or something. lol But I have seen amny scultures with that smmoth eyed look as well as some with the carved pupils.

Looking forward to spending some time with your videos, Tim. As well as looking forward to seeing these UV and Displacement mapped, though I love them this way, too.

      • TiMrozek says:

Ah yes, well, eyes are tricky in zbrush. On one of my newer ones that I’ll post tomorrow I did a really simple mapping of a photo on that seems to help just a bit before I can do the proper 3D eye I made. Anyway, thanks so much for your support. I’ll try to get more videos up soon. Sadly I lost the one for Helena, but I still have the rest, ready to be sped up, compressed, and uploaded.
