2011 Challenger: Hamish Steele

| October 31, 2011 | 1 Comment

 Hello Challengers!

I’m Hamish and I might be the worlds oldest 8-year-old. My work is very childhood based, but sometimes with naughty bits thrown in. I have a webcomic called QINC, a sort of “Ren and Stimpy meets Tintin” thing which is going on hiatus till December… so perfect time to catch up here –

I am hoping to use this project to design a number of things for a number of projects I am working on, but most of all, to really decide what sort of overall style I want to work on. I’m still only a kid really (does 21 count?) and still at uni, but I want to start thinking more professionally.

I’m working on a Victorian-set comedy of terrors called “New Adventures in the Old World” and any help and advice would be really great. This all challenge is meant for me to learn how to do it all.

SO I’LL GIVE IT MY BEST SHOT!

Bombs away!

Hey Guys

Just wanted to say Hi!
Can’t wait to see what everyone does and more over see who all finishes. They said give a hey-oh to those  on the site.
My name is Kat and I’m in my 9th quarter as AIS. I’m going for Game Art Design and hope beyond hope that one day I’ll be in character design. I’ve always loved drawing and once I started never stopped.

I’m really excited to see what everyone does and where I match up. It’s encouraging to know someone can get better and more so to see where everyone else is in the world. 30 Characters in 30 days sounds pretty hard but I guess at least 699 other people wanted to try a crack at it too, I’m thrilled an opportunity like this is here and-

GOOD LUCK!

Greetings, fair sirs and madams! How farest thou on this fine Hallow’s Eve?

Terribly butchered olde English aside, I’m a writer/dreamer who comes up with a character in less time than it takes me to pay my mortgage each month. I don’t have time for NaNo this year (let’s not get into my massive obligations over the next few weeks), but I absolutely love making new characters. I look forward to making (a bare minimum of) 30 of them this November, and assailing all you wonderful viewers with an assortment of crudely-drawn illustrations to go along with them. I’m no Frank Miller, but I do like drawing ponies!*

*Okay, I promise, no ponies.**

**That promise may be a lie.***

***Totally a lie.

2011 Challenger: Drew Green

Hey folks!

My name is Drew Green and I’m an Atlanta-based illustrator and comic artist.  You can see most of my work at my tumblr or my Deviantart, but you can also read my (relatively new) webcomic, The Super-Gay Adventures of Ross Boston.

I heard about the 30 Characters challenge last year listening to a podcast, but was reminded about it again from a friend on Tumblr.  I was able to join it at the very last minute and I’m super pumped!  I want to take this opportunity to make some new characters for my current running comic, but I suspect that most of the focus will be put on another idea I’ve been kicking around, an action/horror comic called “Charlie Chainsaw Has a Dream.”  It will be interesting to challenge myself to come up with a brand new character related to this idea each and every day of November, but I suspect it will be loads of fun.

I look forward to contributing and I can’t wait to see what everyone else comes up with, as well!

2011 Challenger: Rachel Ross

I look too normal to be an artist in this shot.

Deceptively Normal Photo

Hi there!

My name is Rachel Ross (which is why I cleverly put it in the title), and I’m a technical writer from Ohio. I saw this site last year, and this year I am actually going to participate.

I like to doodle random things, sculpt, and make jewelry. My website is http://glimmerville.com but there is more photography and rambling there than anything else, though I also sculpt some Steampunk dragons and things. You can follow me as Nycteris on Twitter (though I am fairly quiet).  (Also I have an Etsy store.)

I’m not entirely sure if I am going to post my art using the Official 30 Characters Template,  but I am definitely going to draw 30 characters!

Hmm, I can’t seem to upload sample art.  Just… assume you are amazed at my skill. Ok fine here is my silly old dA site, full of dragons and thatched roof cottages*, and occasionally crudely drawn mad science.     *Well, actually just more dragons.

I promise my 30 characters will not be all dragons and ponies.

Seriously.

2011 Challenger: Austen Zaleski

Howdy from Texas,

My name is Austen Zaleski.  I’ll be taking part in this years 30 character challenge with all 788 of you(wow..!).  I participated last year but unfortunately only made it to the 11 mark.  You can view what I managed to do here –> http://www.30characters.com/author/austenfm/ .  This was a great challenge and while I didnt finish it last year, it really opened my eyes to a lot of things.  I expect to gain much more by actually completing it this time around.

There’s a lot of talent in this year, so I’m eager to see what everyone creates.  Best of luck everyone, let’s make it one to remember!

Hello~

I’m not sure if I could make the whole contest but I’ll try. This could be seen as a test of some sort since I’m not so well-adjusted with schedules.

A friend and I share a moment

Hi Everybody,

I’m Nathan Seabolt, an American would-be Illustrator/Designer living in Sydney AU. I’m hoping to use the 30 days challenge to push myself to produce some interesting characters and get some exposure for my scribblings.

Can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with!

2011 Challenger: Torill

| October 31, 2011 | 0 Comments

A few days ago, my teacher told me to draw more, and this is me, doing exactly that. I’m Torill, I’m currently studying to become graphic designer, and I love drawing people. maybe one of these guys will inspire me to draw a comic, something I’ve been wanting to do, but been putting off for a long time.

I have a tumblr, and also a DA-account.

Bonjour, Je me présente. Mon prénom est Caleb.

I don’t normally pull out what little french I do know, but seeing that most the folks here have much more talent than I, and do much more than I, it should seem in my best interest to at least seem a little more French than I normally am. (I hear French comics are a little more appreciated artistically.)

I am not currently employed in any art field, nor am I taking any courses, or studying them. (Or for that matter, have I ever. The biggest mistake in my life was taking Journalism over Creative Writing in 11th Grade) I do hope that someday though, I find myself in the field of comic books, possibly conjuring with names I whisper praise to when I speak silently to myself.

I am a writer mostly, but draw on occasion, and if you catch me at the right time, I might even be playing my trumpet, who I have named Carol after Hal’s one time love.

I won’t say this will be easy, ’cause I know it won’t. I’ve seen Harlan Ellison write a short story in a day, and the sweat on his brow is proof enough for writing challenges. But I will promise I’ll have fun, and I’ll finish this challenge, and I promise, everything I throw out here will be new, no cobwebs from me.

I notice many others have put up Their Tumblrs, so might as well too.

2011 Challenger: Kytha

| October 31, 2011 | 0 Comments

‘sup guys? You can just call me Kytha or Ky or whatever other variation on that name you wanna go with. I got pointed this way by a friend (who lives in the same timezone– GMT +8!) and it looks like

Oh, and before I forget: Happy Halloween!this is gonna be pretty fun. While I’ve managed to complete NaNoWriMo a couple of years, this is something completely new to me. For some reason I don’t design new characters often, so this will definitely be fun! Assorted examples of my art can be found on my Tumblr, if you’re curious, but there’s not much to see.

2011 Challenger : Gemsicles

| October 31, 2011 | 0 Comments

Hello. Name’s Gems. Gemster. Gemsicles.  Any would do. Gems for short. I’m a senior Storyboard artist at a local animation company. And I love red bull and arctic ice. I am diabolically addicted to hot sauce.

Hoping to take up this challenge as good as possible.

2011 Challenger: Robert Worstell

Robert C. Worstell

Thanks for this opportunity to show off my artwork.  I’ve been doing cartoons and such all my life, but it’s been taking second-fiddle to many different interests, such as “making a living” and “getting through school”, among others. However, I’ve recently been unearthing my old stuff I did in the odd corners of my life and reviewing these to see how I could get these going as a real enterprise – you know, start making money with this stuff and all my various talents.

And it’s encouraging to see how people are doing this, and all the connections which online publication and sales make possible these days. For I started in the days of actual cut-and-paste, having to send submissions by snail-mail and getting no feedback on the rejections. With cartoons and online publishing, I can get them out via my own virtual publishing house, with the whole world wide web to bring new clients to my virtual door. (You can tell I’m a bit excited about breaking into this, can’t you?)

My characters will be based on the caricatures I’ve been doing at County Fairs during recent summers. (Felt-tip pen and crayon-pencils on art paper.) In fact, I found out about 30 Characters from the website of a fellow caricaturist at Columbia College in Missouri (where we’ve shared gigs there for years.)

Final Series Issue - the end?

End of the Mexico Goat

Here’s a collection of a test run I did last year for a local Facebook celebrity called the Mexico Goat (who annoyed local pet-control officers for several weeks before a literal cowboy caught him with lasso from horseback.)

Luck to us all!

2011 Challenger: Maduin the Jester

| October 31, 2011 | 0 Comments

Hi there, I’m Mad – Video Game Quality Assurance by day, creative nerd geek mind also by day. Getting in the challenge to see how much creative juice I can squeeze out of myself without resorting to back-catalog of preexisting characters of mine. My art skills are nigh inexistent, but there will be also non-graphic media coming from me. I think I’m gonna Enjoy this 😀

2011 Challenger: Tams

Mo with flower

Hi! My name is Tamara, but usually go by Tams. Was introduced to this challenge by another 30Goer, Trey, and thought it would be good for me to get off my butt and work in art again. Just an 9-5 tester who has great ideas but nothing to show for it. Need to practice my art from the ground up so work mostly bios and headshots before working further. Can’t wait to get started and to see what everyone produces. ^_^
