Donovan was always that weird kid who everyone made fun of in school. His complete lack of regard for standard fashion senses was outwardly laughable. But once he entered college, he decided to embrace his weirdness and use that as the opportunity to become a warrior for his own personal interests.
…But that went horribly wrong, and he has become the target of every criminal in the city.
Will Donovan the Strange Heat survive this madness?

Day 25 – Mistress Helen
The Order of the Valorous Heart, moreso than any of it’s sister orders, is known for having a particularly large number of Sister Repentia. The Adepta Sororitas in their order often perceive any slight in duty as damning and seek redemption in one of the harshest and purest forms known to humanity. The Violet Hearts temple, situated on a nearly frozen planet and constantly finding itself thrown into war is seen as taking repentance even a step further. It is here that Helen commands the ranks of Repentia, dressed in only torn robes and the chains that hold their evicerators to them, marching through the frozen snow towards whatever foe it is that challenges humanity next.
Helen finds her duty quite amusing, since the Violet Hearts are some of the least strict practitioners of imperial faith among the Sisters of Battle, but their order often finds itself collecting Repentia from other missions of chapels due to their reputation as being in constant war. Them hoping to die and be absolved in the eyes of the emperor as quickly as possible. Helen leads with compassion in spite of this, and does her best to keep them alive since her young canoness is actually a former repentia herself and is a shining example that taking the pledge of the repentant should be a test of faith, not a death sentence.
Wife of Jericho and mother of Roland and Henry, she’s a high school teacher. Louise escaped Hell many, many years ago and found a human vessel to take over. She and her boys were advocated by the angel Serenitatem and rarely uses her true demon form. Both Henry and Greg have taken her math class. Roland was spared. Louise is very close to her human parents, though not as much with her in-laws who knows that she is a demon.
This is the Clarke children’s mother and David’s wife. She was a gentle soul who many remember for her small kind acts. She died some time after Jessica was born.
Xiao Fan has been with the Clarke family for years, ever since Patrick was born. She is a very strict nanny, especially to Jess and her own children. Her mother is British and met Xiao Fan’s father in Hong Kong. Surprisingly, Xiao Fan’s husband is also from Hong Kong but works all over the world.
Ms. White is Jessica’s 6th grade teacher. She’s only have a few years under her belt as a full-time teacher and is close to Stuart. A portion of her design is based off of an art professor of mine.
professional fighters in training
A middle-aged woman who lives in a well-maintained old house in the suburbs outside of the city, Mrs. Pardee never had a real interest in the spirit world until the flood came. She spends many nights trying everything she can think of to contact her departed mother, who died many years before the flood. Dowsing rods, Ouija boards, crystals, voice recorders left on in empty rooms, Mrs. Pardee has tried it all, and the lack of anything more concrete than a few hand spasms and unintelligible static on a tape has done nothing to diminish her infinite well of hope.
A spirit far older than the flood that so recently devastated the city, this ghost is an amalgam of souls that died as a result of the train that once traveled across the now-defunct trestle. Long since past its prime and in disrepair, the old stories about a man eating monster that would lure unsuspecting children to the train trestle to die have largely faded into irrelevancy. Now without a purpose or even a memory, the spirit fades as children stomp on the remains of its grave.
Amaya has gone through a great deal of phases in her life, but there was always a toughness to her; a violent constant throughout. In school she was a bit of a bully. A little down the road, she was what some might call a delinquent. From there, she got into the riot grrl scene in Tokyo. Wild nights on the town eventually had her crossing paths with the Yakuza. Through them, she was introduced to the world of underground fighting. And it was through underground fighting where she was introduced to Kyokushin Karate.
That was 18 years ago, & so far, it’s been the one thing to hold her interest the longest. Nowadays, she spends her time in seclusion, in an abandoned temple in the Aokigahara, far from the wild nights of Tokyo, meditating & honing her technique. She tried to rid herself of all other distractions in order to focus. Rarely even emerging for food & supplies, she strives to be the deadliest fighter on Earth.
No thought was put into the name, it’s generic & Japanese & I liked it because it’s close to being a palindrome. And I think with this one, though I’m being generous by going drama & manga, I’ve completed the cycle of all the different categories I think. So that’s at least one goal. I’m probably not posting anything else after this before the end tomorrow, but be sure to keep following as I go for 52 characters for the year on my tumblr. Thanks to everyone. Good luck other participants.
They have no heads of their own, and rely on the animals placed there instead.
There are certain things that you don’t really ever want to keep around. Hazardous byproducts, ancient relics, One Direction paraphenalia, etc. That’s where guys like Klimple & Wif come in. It’s their job to take unwanted materials from one dimension & safely deposit them in another, effectively eliminating whatever that item was from that original dimension’s plain of existence. You got a problem with that? You gotta take it to their bosses, Klimple & Wif are just “associates.” Aside from booming business, both Klimple & Wif’s lives have been on a bit of an upswing. Klimple just won a landmark legal action that grants him permission to wear his father’s carved skull as battlemask in the workplace, as is his cultural tradition, while Wif has finally found a proper course of treatment that stops his bioluminescent acne. — Had the idea of interdimensional trashmen & it got weirder & weirder from there. Probably in the same story universe as the first & last character I did last year. Chances are I’m definitely not hitting 30 tomorrow but let me get out the last couple of guys I was working on anyhow (I’ll have another one after this). Like I said, something came up & I had to prioritize this month. And I feel lame but it is what it is. And I’m still looking to reach my goal of 52 characters for the whole year. Those will eventually be posted on my tumblr (along with a color version of this), & then eventually my blog at some point, so keep checking back.
She was the final line of defense, and she knew that she could allow nothing to get by.
