Howdy, Austen's the name, and drawings the game!

I'm a 25 year old slacker from Houston TX looking to build my skill so i can someday call myself a professional.

You can view my work various places online, but here are a few links to some of the main ones.

#6 Red Scare

| November 15, 2010 | 1 Comment

Augh, boy am I behind~!  But I’m on the path to fixing that.  I’ve been strapped for ideas for a while now and my friend and fellow participant Aluisio suggested I tackle old characters I designed but never did anything with.  So I’ve been browsing my old sketchbooks building up a stockpile of people to draw.

Here we have one of my first characters from many years ago, his name is The Red Scare (original huh?)  A grotesque super powered soviet based in the 1960’s.  He’s got the power to reduce a T-34 to shreds with a few well placed strikes.  Also has the unique ablility he calls the “shotgun punch”. Whatever he punches will be instantly devastated as if it were hit with a load of buckshot.  Effective for breaking through basic wood and concrete barriers, also extremely effective on he human body.  Think fist of the north star but instantaneous.

And his hair, for those who are curious about his hair, imagine it like Dennis Hoppers hair in the Super Mario Bros movie —> http://thehanafudatimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/dennishopper_koopa.jpg

This design is essentially the same as I always drew him years ago, next I want to re-vamp it a bit with more authentic soviet gear.  Stay tuned!

#5 Spear Girl

Finally caught up, but I’m sure to fall behind again… Ive got some  better characters in the works though.

Sorry, no real story for this one, mainly trying to practice females here. Inspired by Frank Frazetta’s “spider-man” painting.

Still trying to catch up – Another basic design – 60’s future

-Magazine collage and marker

#3 Aviator

No real story for this one, just a retro futuristic space rocket pilot or something.  Tried out collage this time, magazine scraps and marker for skin tone.

Got a few more to upload today so I can catch up, but i wont crowd you all at once.

#2 Tokusatsu

When a young man finds an “interesting” belt buckle at a flea market, he  soon finds out it’s actually an advanced alien beacon that gives him the powers of the ancient universal enforcer Tokusatsu.  Now it’s up to him to protect the beacon from scheming agents while also using it to save the world from invading monsters!

#1 Generic G.I.

Sorry for not creating an original character on day 1.Though I did draw this today with the challenge in mind.  This is mainly an overall design for some generic special ops soldiers I have in an upcoming  comic I’m working on.  Heavily reffed from counter-strike source( I need to use real photo reference more often).

Hopefully tomorrow I’ll have something more original to share.  Thanks for looking!

30 Characters Challenger: Austen Zaleski

| November 1, 2010 | 2 Comments

Howdy everyone, my name is Austen Zaleski.  I’m from Houston TX and I’m a little slow to jump on the wagon as far as posting my info goes.  So I’ll make it short so I don’t compete with the great drawings being uploaded today!
I’m currently a college student attending a local art college, though I’ll spare the name since I’m very unsatisfied with the “education” I’ve been receiving.    I’m studying 3Danimation but my passions lie solely with what I can create with my hands,  I’ve always been into comic books, but this past year I’ve been pushing myself more in that direction.
I’m eager to get things rolling on this 30 characters challenge, I hope to learn a lot from what everyone has to offer and it will also be a nice break from doing 3D all day.

Can’t wait to get the ball rolling!
