#30 The Stork is LATE!!!

| November 30, 2011 | 0 Comments

As of today, Nov. 30th, my wife is officially past her due date.

We are expecting our second child and just like with the first, the stork is having a hard time finding his way to make the delivery on time…

Well, although this year’s 30 character challenge kicked my butt, I thoroughly enjoyed being a part of it and I feel I’ve gained an increase in speed for putting out my cartoons. That is what I set out to accomplish. It was a great exercise  and I truly appreciate Tyler taking the time to put this together, thanks Tyler!

I hope to participate again next year and hope to see all of the fellow participants back as well.

Good luck and God bless to all.

Thanks,

Steve

So this is why it’s called a CHALLENGE!!!

I have fallen behind big time. About a week’s worth. But here we go, let me try to catch up…

In adding to the 99% theme that I started on with the first post, here is Clive.

Clive is a genius MIT engineering graduate who cannot find a job in his field as most of the jobs in his industry have gone overseas. So he’s had to settle for a job paying minimum wages to try to keep from going into default on his student loan. The reality for the 99%…

#8 Smokin’ Joe

A tribute to the late, great Smokin’ Joe Frazier. Ranked one of the ten greatest heavyweight champs of all time. He was one of only 5 guys that beat “the greatest” – Ali.

#7 Troll

This here’s Terry the Troll. Don’t let his puppy-like face fool you. He’s a mean bastard and he does not hesitate to pillage and plunder…

Seven days in guys and it’s amazing how just about everyone is showing improvement in their drawings and designs. Keep up the great work everyone!

#3 Jani-Bot 3000

| November 3, 2011 | 1 Comment

This is the Jani-Bot 3000. One of the many robots that will replace human workers.

Many of us have grown up hearing about how computers and robots will replace us in the workforce of the future. But it has never seemed more real than in the past few years. I was inspired after listening to a recent episode of On Point on NPR. I highly recommend you listen to it if you want to hear about the reality of most of our jobs being done by robots in the near future!

Here is #2!

Just a quick one. I’m trying to keep myself to an hour max. time for each character. I want to try to build on speed with this challenge. Also, this one was sketched and inked with Manga Studio EX. This is the first time I use it and it has to be the best digital inking software I’ve ever used. I will be using it for these first two steps for most of the characters from here on.

#1 WalMart Greeter. (Reality for the 99%)

| November 1, 2011 | 0 Comments

The Reality for the 99%: A retired teacher in her 70’s, who has to work to make ends meet!

I will have a series of characters under this theme. Not trying to be a Debbie-Downer but attention needs to be brought to these issues, one way or another.

I’ll be using other themes as well and some of the characters will have no theme at all. Hope you all enjoy!

Hi all! My name’s Steve and I’ve been looking forward to the 30 characters challenge all year.

My hope is that it gets my creative juices flowing and helps me get out of the artistic rut I’ve been in for awhile…

There are already a few people signed up who’s work I truly admire. I’m looking forward to seeing what their imaginations spew out here. Actually, I’m excited to check out all of the work and creativity that will come of this.

You can find me on twitter as @cartoonista and very soon at www.cartoonismo.com.

Happy drawing to all!

Steve
