Kevin Maher-30 Characters in 30 Days

| December 2, 2010 | 2 Comments

Well since everyone else was doing this I thought I should too! (thanks for the template!) This was my first 30 Characters Challenge and I’m pretty happy with what I’ve created. I actually learned a lot, some quicker photoshop coloring, some shortcuts, and the ability to create characters in an instant. I have been planning on launching my own webcomic, but I was worried about time constraints. This whole challenge taught me that it is completely doable and I have nothing to worry about. Some of these characters will totally be used. It was also interesting to see what characters people found interesting. What creators found interesting was totally different than what my non-artist friends liked. And some things I loved no one else did. Overall I am very happy I did this.

I hope you enjoyed my work. See you in the funny pages!

#30 Turmoil

| November 27, 2010 | 2 Comments

This is it! Number 30! Turmoil has no powers except some exceptional riding skills. The motorcycle however is actually an artificial intelligence, sort of like KITT on Knight Rider. It has all sorts of gadgets and weapons. Turmoil just calls him “Arty” for short.

#29 The Greek Tragedy

| November 27, 2010 | 0 Comments

The Greek Tragedy is a zombie trio of three Greek Myths. Icarus, The Minotaur, and the Cyclops. An evil wizard created them and they exist to do his bidding, plus they crave brains. Yup, Greek myths and zombies together= awesome.

#28 Syndy & Sam

| November 27, 2010 | 0 Comments

Sam is a resident genius for a government think tank. He created a synthetic female soldier that he called “Syndy” (Cindy + Synthetic). When they tried to dissect and clone her, Same and Syndy escaped. They are on the run from the government still, Sam is pretty much a coward and Syndy protects him like a big sister. She has advanced agility, strength, intelligence and fighting prowess.

#27 Mech Mary

| November 27, 2010 | 1 Comment

Mech Mary is the pilot of a giant mech, she is the only female pilot in her unit but also the most gifted and talented. The mech takes on the personality and mannerisms of the pilot, it’s like an extension of that individual. She’s pretty “girly”, likes the color pink and shopping. So it makes the mech’s mannerisms pretty interesting.

#26 Lineage

| November 27, 2010 | 1 Comment

This is Lineage, he has the ability to access anyone related to him in history and/or future. So for example he needs brute strength, he morphs into his caveman ancestor who is clearly stronger. If he needs computer skills he accesses his future self who is a complete slacker computer nerd, etc. Though sometimes it does backfire, he might morph into his ancestor who is a pirate for sailing knowledge and realizes that his ancestor is completely evil. He must now fight to regain control and try to morph back into himself. The new person has his own mind but Lineage’s mind also stays active. Sorta of like Professor Stein does with Firestorm. He’s like a guardian telling the new body what they need to do.

#25 The White Shade

| November 24, 2010 | 0 Comments

An actual superhero and not a villain this time! This is The White Shade, mysterious, silent and deadly. No one knows who he is and where he comes from. He’s a master of stealth and prefers handguns and small knives over bigger weapons. He might have powers but no one is actually sure.

#24 The Wall

| November 24, 2010 | 0 Comments

The Wall is a failed pro wrestler. Addicted to steroids and HGH he was repeatedly in and out of trouble. He was approached by a “friend” who said he had some new stuff that would make him the next greatest thing in wrestling. He ended up trying these experimental steroids, but they completely morphed his body. He grew to enormous size and his muscles grew super dense. He now gets hired as protection for super criminals, since no one can get past The Wall!

#23 The Unbroken

| November 23, 2010 | 0 Comments

This is The Unbroken, he is from an alien race who travel the galaxy conquering weaker races. He is covered in fur, war paint, has claws, and a primal scream that can incapacitate his opponents. He is called The Unbroken because he has never been beaten, ever. He’s an unstoppable force.

#22 The Tail

| November 22, 2010 | 2 Comments

This is The Tail (yes, another supervillian). Possessed by an ancient spirit totem of a lizard on an archeological dig, his skin and eyes turned reptilian. He designed a mechanical tail that is powered by magic. He also uses other weapons such as whips, chains, anything that resembles a tail really.

#21 The Homeless Man

| November 21, 2010 | 1 Comment

This is probably one of my favorites. Another supervillian, he is The Homeless Man! He’s obviously homeless and he smells bad. I’m not sure he has any powers except screaming nonsense at pedestrians, peeing in public and the ability to get hammered off of Nighttrain.

#20 Soul Master

| November 21, 2010 | 1 Comment

Soul Master is another supervillian (I apparently love making villians) who has the ability to control souls. He can raise the dead, make zombies, control ghosts and pretty much do anything supernatural. It is said his body is a doorway to the underworld and that’s how he possesses all these abilities but no one really knows.

#19 Lockup

| November 21, 2010 | 0 Comments

Lockup is a prisoner serving multiple sentences for killing people in Muay Thai fights. He is now champion of the prison fighting circuit. He frequently escapes to find power superheros so he may defeat them. His trunks are orange like a prison jumpsuit with his prisoner number on the back.

#18 Kid Arthur

| November 21, 2010 | 0 Comments

Arthur was just a baby when his parents visited England. Both born in America they wanted to reconnect with their English roots and distant relatives. At a picnic on the lake one day The Lady of the Lake appeared and gave the baby Arthur the sword Excalibur. The parents were stunned and when the father tried to throw back the sword he could not lift it. No one could lift it except for Arthur. Now back in America (how they got the sword past customs is a mystery)  “Kid Arthur” has adventures fighting ancient evils from Great Britain’s past trying to claim Excalibur.

#17 Dr. E.T.

| November 21, 2010 | 0 Comments

These next couple are a little more cartoony. This is Dr. E.T. He’s from outer space (obviously) and he likes to abduct humans and perform experiments on them, with hilarious results. He has a little robot sidekick who thinks he’s an idiot and keeps him from blowing themselves up.

#16 Dober-Man

| November 20, 2010 | 8 Comments

This is Dober-Man, a supervillian that trains and uses dogs (specifically dobermans) to commit his crimes. Wears padded armor on his costume to train his pooches. Pretty low level supervillian but I thought the name was funny.

#15 BettyRock

| November 20, 2010 | 1 Comment

OK I’m behind so trying to catch up. This is BettyRock (Obviously a play on the world Bedrock, just made it female.) She has the power to take rock and make it into weapons and armor.

#14 Tsarina

| November 16, 2010 | 1 Comment

Tsarina is a former Soviet women’s weightlifting champion, she underwent a government experiment to make her a super soldier. But the Soviet Union crumbled shortly after. She now fights to try to restore her country to greatness.

#13 The Ghost Ninja

| November 16, 2010 | 1 Comment

I’m a few days behind cause I’ve been sick but I’m gonna try to post all the ones I have done already. This is the Ghost Ninja, he has intangibility and deception powers. And I really dig the “G” design I put on the costume.

#12 Seabreaker

| November 12, 2010 | 1 Comment

Back to superheroes! This is Seabreaker, he was on a cruise and got to drunk and fell overboard. Two weeks later he ended up on shore with mysterious water energy powers. He has no idea where he got them or where he was. He could be a hero or villain, he’s not even sure.

#11 Oni (Samurai #6)

| November 11, 2010 | 1 Comment

This is my final Samurai from my Samurai666 clan. This is Oni, he’s the most evil of the 6. He’s being taken over by his Demon powers, his skin has already turned red and he has no need for martial arts or weapons. He uses dark magic to destroy his enemies, it seems his powers are limitless but the more he uses them the more he changes into an actual Demon.

#10 Kage (Samurai #5)

| November 10, 2010 | 1 Comment

This is Kage, Samurai #5 of my Samurai666 clan. (See previous posts for 1-4). Since there’s only 6 of these he’s quite high on the evil scale. He has reddish orange eyes and can travel in shadows and darkness through the Shadow World. The Shadow World is a place he can access where demons and evil ninjas travel through. He also found his demonic ebony blade there. It can create darkness and can create portals from the real world into the Shadow World.

#9 Odokemono (Samurai #4)

| November 9, 2010 | 0 Comments

This is Samurai #4 in my Samurai666 clan, Odokemono. Days #6, 7, 8 were the first three. Since the numbers are starting to get higher he starts to show more evil demonic traits and powers. Odokemono is unusually strong for his size and prefers to fight with large swords and axes. He also tends to ride on Fa-Suto’s (Samurai #3) shoulders instead of walking. He can also leap very high and his eyes look almost silver.

I am also keeping the color schemes of this group similiar to the Voltron crew. The leader is wearing red, the fat guy is wearing orange, the little guy is wearing green, etc.

#8 Fa-Suto (Samurai #3)

| November 8, 2010 | 1 Comment

This is Samurai #3 of my Samurai666 clan. #1 and #2 being the last couple character posts. This is Fa-Suto, don’t let his size fool you. He’s lightning quick and a master of the Nunchaku. He also has a fascination with Elvis Presley and and tries to emulate his dress and mannerisms.

#7 Kyoukuo (Samurai #2)

| November 7, 2010 | 0 Comments

This is the second samurai of the Samurai666 clan, Kyuokuo. (The first being my Day 6 post: Shuhan). She’s crazy and prefers long reach weapons. She’s like a mix between Harley Quinn and Elektra.

#6 Shuhan (Samurai #1)

| November 7, 2010 | 2 Comments

This is Shuhan, he is the leader of an evil martial arts clan called Samurai666. There are 6 of them in the clan. The higher their number the more evil they are. Shuhan is #1, not as evil as the rest but he needs to be a little more civilized to keep the clan in line. He’s a master of multiple kung fu styles including Drunken Boxing, Eagle Claw, Five Animals, Praying Mantis, Fujian White Crane, and Tai Chi Chuan. He has sharp blades embedded in his forearms. This makes his kung-fu moves extremely deadly and he is able to fight armed opponents without the use of weapons.

#5 Rosemary

| November 6, 2010 | 3 Comments

Rosemary is a normal Catholic school girl, who just happens to be the Devil’s daughter. Hey, he wanted her to have a good education like everyone else!! She’s got boy problems, she texts to much, she likes the mall, and she fights on the unearthly plane every so often with her demon powers!

#4 Deadlock

| November 4, 2010 | 3 Comments

Deadlock was a weapons designer for the US government. When the economy crashed he was given the pink slip. He has a history of depression, bi-polar disorder and manic episodes, but once he lost his job he had a major breakdown. He’s now a crazy anti-government recluse. He has a genius intellect, an advanced knowledge of weapons manufacturing and an agenda. He’s a very dangerous man.

#3 Captain Steampunk

| November 3, 2010 | 2 Comments

Now I couldn’t go 30 days without making a pirate character. Captain Steampunk commands a giant flying warship in a world of Victorian culture, dinosaurs, wooden robots and alchemy. Picture him as the Han Solo in the world of Fullmetal Alchemist.

#2 American Dream

| November 2, 2010 | 4 Comments

The modern America: Obesity, Reality Television Stars, Gun Violence. This is a hero that represents the modern America. He’s fat, has his own reality tv cameras, and is obnoxious. Meet the American Dream! Captain America eat your heart out!

#1 Mr. “Zombie” Cleaver

| November 1, 2010 | 2 Comments

Well in honor of the first episode of “The Walking Dead” last night (and Halloween). My first character is Mr. John “Zombie” Cleaver. Same ole story. Happy American family. Dad comes home from work. Family was brutally murdered by zombies. He becomes a zombie killer. Discovers he’s immune to the zombie virus. Now he’s out to save the world from the zombie plague. Taaa-daaaa

(Hey I’m an artist not a writer, cut me some slack.)
