# 9 Jasper The Unfriendly Ghost

Monsters Royale Jasper The Unfriendly Ghost Drawing by Adam Everett Beck

JASPER THE UNFRIENDLY GHOST

A bat attack on Jasper’s lobe
Resulted in the hydrophobe.
He bit the master and the missus,
The mailman, a Jehova’s witness,
The gardener (whose name was Hector),
A salesman, and a bill collector.
The fam’ly wept to kill the cur
But kept an urn full of his fur.
The Brindlehead’s once stately ground
Stays haunted by this spectral hound.
And lest you think this all in jest,
Be mindful of unwanted guest,
Doorbell-ringing vendor man,
Or even singing telegram.
See them cross the front lawn running.
Know that Jasper is not funning.

# 8 Goria

Monsters Royale Goria Drawing by Adam Everett Beck

GORIA

Infant squealing brings to Goria
Instant feelings of euphoria.
That’s why his favorite place to be
Is a crying baby’s nursery.
He wakes small children from their napping
And makes them red with constant slapping.
At nurse’s teat they twist and twiddle …
Though sometimes on his sheet they piddle.

# 7 Fantasma

Monsters Royale Fantasma Drawing by Adam Everett Beck

FANTASMA

Fantasma is a denim ghost,
A blue jean genie from the coast.
She used to be a fact’ry rat
Who fell into a giant vat
Of Indigo Blue No. 2.
Oh what a tragic thing to do!
Later, she was resurrected
When some trousers were inspected.
She then emerged with great surprise
From a new pair of button flies.
She flew out in a cloud of dust
Wearing a blue-hued tagelmust.
If you’re the one who wears the jeans
She’ll help you to fulfill your dreams.
She’ll grant whatever wish you’ve made,
At least until her powers fade.

# 6 Torneska

Monsters Royale Torneska Drawing by Adam Everett Beck

TORNESKA

There are difficulties daily
When you’re biggish, horned, and scaly.
Yes, the problems are unyielding
When you’re taller than a building.
Our Torneska is no quitter
But she can’t find clothes that fit her.
See, they make few skirts and dresses
For the gal with mores not lesses.
And you know what really rankles?
Boots won’t fit round her ankles.
Torny gives new definition
To the term “plus-sized edition.”

# 5 Scumbillica

Monsters Royale Scumbillica Drawing by Adam Everett Beck

SCUMBILLICA

Scumbillica, the ancient sluggard,
Can’t work because his tail is buggered.
Alas, for beasts bereft of stomp,
There ain’t no monster workman’s comp.

# 4 Ang’wishh

Monsters Royale Ang'wishh Drawing by Adam Everett Beck

ANG’WISHH

The man-beast Ang’wishh howls distress;
His inner workings are a mess.
His stomach’s where his heart should be,
His spleen is just above his knee,
His left lung is a bit deflated,
His cleft tongue is over-hydrated.
A tangled knot of weird suggestion
Passes for his small intestine.
Appendixes? Some folks have none.
Poor Ang’wishh, he has twenty-one.
And that, you see, is not the worst -
His unanointed head, so cursed,
Like many a ne’er-do-well,
Is empty as a washed-up shell.
Though housed not behind tortured eyes,
His cerebellum elsewhere lies.
Hit this bane below his pantline-
Burst his brain just like a landmine!

# 3 Cube-A-Saurus Blox

Monsters Royale Cube-A-Saurus Blox Drawing by Adam Everett Beck

CUBE-A-SAURUS BLOX

A fearsome cry shakes loose the rocks
Whence comes the Cube-a-saurus Blox.
His roar will cause the maximum
Damage, so says the axiom.
Across the planes, above the slope,
The volume rises from this dope.
While somewhat of an obtuse case,
His screams will tilt you off your base.
The way he makes his tonsils dangle,
Makes you wonder, “What’s his angle?”
What’s behind his angry keens?
He has the Geometric Means
‘Cause his empty set was stolen.
Also, his odd nodes are swollen.

# 2 Woolworth

Monsters Royale Woolworth Drawing by Adam Everett Beck

WOOLWORTH

Though Woolworth is an herbivore,
He’s hunted on his native shore.
The search for this beast never stops
For he would make delicious chops
And were he shorn down to the floor -
Enough sweaters to fill a store!

# 1 G’Zundt

Monsters Royale G'Zundt Drawing by Adam Everett Beck

G’ZUNDT

The wheezing, sleazing dragon-beast
G’Zundt emerged to make his feast.
Sneezing, snorting, castle-raidin’,
Looking for a comely maiden.
Fighting, biting knights crusadin’
Pages, mages, all sword-laden.
The troglodyte did slay them all,
Their cloaks used as a funeral pall.
A hilltop cavern marks the site
Known locally as G’Zundt Height.

2011 Challenger: Adam Everett Beck

Profile Pic of Rebeldog Comics' Adam Everett Beck
Hey there, everybody! My name is Adam Everett Beck (aka King AdBeck), and I’m a returning challenger from last year. Last year I shared characters from my Monsters Royale project, which is a book that both pays homage to and lovingly parodies horror pop culture, featuring skewed reinterpretations of classic horror icons and wholly original creations with a comedic twist. The characters are inspired by all fields of monsterology, including Japanese kaiju films and yokai folklore, ancient myths and legends, EC and Warren comics, Universal and Hammer horror movies, etc. This year, you’ll be getting more of the same.

For those interested, my entries from last year’s challenge can be seen here: 2010 Challenge

For those of you already familiar and who’ve enjoyed my work in the past, I’d like to encourage you to check out my Kickstarter project, where I’m trying to raise money to publish the Monsters Royale book. Even if you don’t wanna pledge money, you should check it out to view the short animated cartoon I made, which features some of last year’s monsters. Just click on the pic below:

Happy to see so many people are taking up the challenge this year.
Good luck to all involved,
AdBeck

#30 Dugg Skullery

Monsters Royale Dugg Skullery Drawing by Adam Everett Beck

DUGG SKULLERY

Dugg Skullery, who moans and jostles
Amongst the dino bones and fossils,
Has been unearthed from mouldy ground -
A missing thing best left unfound.
The students who dug up the site
Became his food that very night.

Notes: That’s my thirty, folks! Hope one or two of ‘em evoked a head nod, smirk or bemused chuckle. Congrats to everybody who completed the challenge! As if you didn’t already have enough going on in November … ;) I’ve enjoyed watching the progress of the many talented individuals who chose to participate. Your good work has spurred me on to the finish line. And big thanks to everybody who commented on my li’l drawings (on this site and elsewhere) for your kind words. Your support has been very much appreciated!

#29 Goahedd

Monsters Royale Goahedd Drawing by Adam Everett Beck

GOAHEDD

Acephalous wretch, not quite dead,
Ironically named Goahedd.
At bowling lanes, he is a hit.
His head and neck: a four-ten split!
Though he is an unmoved savage,
His is the most improved av’rage.
When the scores at last are read off
He will surely laugh his head off.

#28 Curruptus

Monsters Royale Curruptus Drawing by Adam Everett Beck

CURRUPTUS

We don’t dare go near Curruptus
For we fear he might abduct us,
Fly us to some remote center,
And turn us into polenta.

#27 Snurkle

Monsters Royale Snurkle Drawing by Adam Everett Beck

SNURKLE

Snurkle lurks in a tree hollow,
Where no humans dare to follow.
Known to pick a rover’s pockets,
Stealing timepieces and lockets,
He has quite a hoard of treasure,
Which provides him immense pleasure.
Does the Hobs and Bogeys good,
Hence they call him Goblin Hood.

#26 Morasso

Monsters Royale Morasso Drawing by Adam Everett Beck

MORASSO

A spirit dragon in the sky,
Morasso seldom meets the eye.
High above the earth’s rotation,
Dismissed as a cloud formation,
It’s said he’s only seen by men
Whose hearts are pure and minds o-pen.
And if your eyes upon him gaze,
Good luck shall be yours all your days.

#25 The Jynx

Monsters Royale The Jynx Drawing by Adam Everett Beck

THE JYNX

Well-hidden in the trees so high,
What does the agile Jynx espy?
She doesn’t move; won’t even try.
By simply winking her right eye
Bad luck befalls the passerby.
A tree may drop! (Don’t ask me why.)
A comet could crash from the sky!
A high volt wire might go awry
And cause your underpants to fry!
I tell you true, this is no lie,
You cross the Jynx and you will die!

#24 Skweedj

Monsters Royale Skweedj Drawing by Adam Everett Beck

SKWEEDJ

Of Skweedj, there isn’t much to tell …
He’s jest a goblin raisin’ hell.
The chief question of inter-est
Is why mittens and yet no vest?
But goblins tend to suffer these
Fashion impracticalities.
All reason their styles do defy:
Skweedj wears a patch on his good eye.
Of Skweedj, there is naught to explain …
He’s jest a goblin raisin’ cain.

#23 Zayray The Electrosmog

Monsters Royale Zayray The Electrosmog Drawing by Adam Everett Beck

ZAYRAY THE ELECTROSMOG

A Geiger counter’s constant click
Gives warning Zayray’s coming quick!
Out there in the darkness glowing,
Moving, grooving, ebbing, flowing,
Seeping deathly radiation
That defies imagination,
He’ll sap your body of its strength.
He’s on a different wavelength.
Leaves you searching for an answer,
Also with a case of cancer.

30 November 2010 6:39 AM EDT

#22 The Nunsutch

Monsters Royale The Nunsutch Drawing by Adam Everett Beck

THE NUNSUTCH

The Nunsutch is a happy beast,
Who’s not aggressive in the least.
Content she’ll be upon your lap.
Around your shoulders she will wrap
Herself and snuggle, if you let her,
‘Cause she’s basic’ly a sweater.
She would make a dandy pet -
But understand, she can’t get wet.
Give her just her fill for drinkin’,
Otherwise she will be shrinkin’.

#21 Gor-Tang

Monsters Royale Gor-Tang Drawing by Adam Everett Beck

GOR-TANG

Gor-Tang’s the tallest goblin male …
When he is perched upon his tail.

#20 Grünsom The Griffin

Monsters Royale Grunsom The Griffin Drawing by Adam Everett Beck

GRÜNSOM THE GRIFFIN

Grünsom the Griffin, flying proud,
Has wandered lonely as a cloud.
His red eyes twirl, his talons grip;
He longs for some companionship.
And that is why he’s in a bind,
For griffin girls are hard to find.
His feathered population weakens …
He’s the last of the Crow-hicans.
The final bird-beast of his kind -
End of the fam’ly aquiline.

#19 Bartlettō

Monsters Royale Bartletto Drawing by Adam Everett Beck

BARTLETTŌ

We plucked Bartletto from a tree,
But don’t know what to do with he.
Though he is but a pear’s length high,
We fear that he shall spoil the pie!

#18 King Mayo Culpa

Monsters Royale King Mayo Culpa Drawing by Adam Everett Beck

KING MAYO CULPA

King Mayo Culpa cracks the whip,
A tyrant with a tangy zip.
Left out in the sun, congealing,
He could not be less appealing.
How to stop this oily slickster?
Spatulas might do the trick, sir.
You’ll win acclaim, don’t think me crazy.
Remember the words Confucious say-zee:
“Man who spread well mayonnaise-y
Make fat thin and earn much praise-y.”

#17 Wee Willie

Monsters Royale Wee Willie Ghost Drawing by Adam Everett Beck

WEE WILLIE

To save himself from doing time,
Wee Willie snitched on heads of crime
Families, then went underground,
And relocated out of town.
Now rats can run but they can’t hide.
The mob went looking far and wide,
And did a strong-arm bit of touting;
Found him at a family outing.
Tommy gun in picnic basket
Led to Willie in a casket.
Potato salad on his legs,
His eyes covered with deviled eggs,
Gunned down at the outdoor banquet,
Buried in a checkered blanket.
Now Willie haunts the shelter house
With other rats – the dirty louse!

#16 The Weirdling

Monsters Royale The Weirdling Drawing by Adam Everett Beck

THE WEIRDLING

Remodeling had hit its groove
When … Gasp! The walls began to move.
The brushes broke, the ladder fell,
Our tray was split in half as well.
From out the wallpaper he came.
The Weirdling was his given name.
We grabbed at him and held him tight.
Surprise, surprise! He didn’t fight.
His lower half, much like a tongue,
We used to get the paper hung
By dipping in the spilled-out paste.
(To not do so would be a waste.)
The Weirdling flew away in haste.
I guess he didn’t like the taste!

#15 Ecchi-Ojisan

Monsters Royale Ecchi-Ojisan Drawing by Adam Everett Beck

ECCHI-OJISAN

A vile uncle who loved himself
Was found hung from a closet shelf,
Wearing naught but a mask and robe.
(Police thought it best not to probe.)
That seemed the end of Ojisan,
And years passed by without the man.
The stories and the legends grew …
And many folks believed them true.
Two newlyweds, by tales undaunted,
Who knew that homes cannot be haunted,
Rented his house aft they were wed.
His ghost tried to join them in bed!

#14 Akikaze

Monsters Royale Akikaze Drawing by Adam Everett Beck

AKIKAZE

Akikaze, The Autumn Wind,
Is feeling just a tad chagrined.
Reluctantly he rolls his sleeves
And with a branch attacks the leaves.
To strip the trees, both tall and small,
Is his duty come every Fall.

#13 Stalk

Monsters Royale Stalk Drawing by Adam Everett Beck

STALK

Where once a man stood up to Stalk
There’s now an outline sketched in chalk.
This shambling creeping vine-like thing
Will twist and twine, constrict, and cling.
Say what you will; although corrupt,
He built his rep from the ground up.

#12 Scoboro-o

Monsters Royale Scoboro-o Pic by Adam Everett Beck

SCOBORO-O

Scoboro-o from space outer,
Sent forth as alien scouter.
When planets are populated
By knock-offs, the imitated
Are restored to proper stations
By large-scale disintegrations.
Sorry, folks, but guilty nations
Must be cleansed of such creations.
Before the copied clan’s decamping
Scoboro-o fights their champeen.
So if your universe is full
Of beings unoriginal,
And characters who tend to bore
Because we’ve seen them all before,
Prepare your worthiest contender -
Scoboro-o comes to render
He or she quite powerluss
And prove your world should bite the dust.

#11 Na’aqua

Monsters Royale Na'aqua Pic by Adam Everett Beck

NA’AQUA

Atop a hill there sits a well
That once gave water to the dell.
Though it’s not been in use for years,
Its mere mention still causes fears
To flood a brave man’s heart, so please
Do not make any inquiries.
Cast not your coin into the black
Lest you wish for a heart attack.
If in the chasm you should glance
A heart spasm you’ll surely chance.
For in this well Na’aqua lies
Waiting to leap up and surprise.
