#4 Earl, the Cactus

| November 8, 2011 | 0 Comments

This character is a real character. He is actually alive. He’s my cactus that I’ve had for over 6 years.

I’ve moved 14 times in my life. This cactus is a real world representation of my need to have at least one thing around that doesn’t change. I gave my cactus a name when someone once asked me why I have a cactus in my room. I said, “Oh that’s Earl.” and that was that.

The word balloons are actual things Earl has said over the years. I’m just glad he can’t tell my mother everything I’ve actually done in my room……heh.

#3 Goose Bumpers

These characters came from my weird need to be a corny, cheezy boyfriend every minute of the day.

My GF was cold one early morning. She gets goose bumps on her skin very easily. SO in my desire to be a cute BF, I said, “Hey there Goose Bumper!” Her face lit up and she said, “Dude, you should totally do a character based on that for your challenge!” Easy for her too say…

One variation almost had these geese wearing front and rear bumpers (hanging from suspenders).. whew that was a close one!

#2 Bee Snitches

This character came out of my frustration over not being able to use swear words on my Facebook page.

I want to maintain a professional impression on my Facebook but sometimes I just want to cut loose and use a cuss word or two. Of course, my brain is tuned to catching character ideas anytime they appear and this one was too fun to let go…can you guess which word I’m censoring here?

My Bee Snitch has an intense look of retribution in his eye, so watch out and don’t get stung!

#1 – “Santa Moss”

| November 2, 2011 | 2 Comments

This character idea came from a GPS Navigation mistake.

In my city there’s a street call San Thomas Expressway (quick eyed readers will already see the mistake…:-) and after speaking into my phone for directions, it asked me if I wanted to go see Santa Moss.

Boom! Santa Moss was born…and he has the power to bring Xmas cheer to all your household plants!

2011 Challenger: Nathan “Phoenix” Vargas

Hey there, I’m a first timer in the 30 Character Challenge.

Fresh off the 24 Hour Comic Day Challenge and still roaring to go, I’ve decided to keep the momentum going! My brain just keeps screaming…Draw more! More! MORE!

And I try and do what my brain says I should do…

Boring Stuff About Me

I’m the co-founder of, a site that has tools that help comic book creators create. I’m also a game UI designer for…you’ll know what that is soon enough. 🙂 My drawing skills are rusty but practice will crumble all that away.

I’m attracted to the 30Character because I’ve always had random characters milling about inside my brain but never had the structure, format, or audience to bring em out. Now is the time!
