Author Archive: The Horchata Crew
For those who have participated in the previous 30characters challenge, I am Pitang, or Faith Orcino as I am called in the real world. This time, my friend Joseph Noblit is teaming up with me as The Horchata Crew to complete this challenge and expand our artistic limits and character roster. My friends and I are slowly working on stories we hope to publish. I currently work with my university's newspaper as a writer and artist. "Student A" is the small comic series I make for them. Some have been posted on the paper's website (csusmchronicle.com) It is just a small start to make my big dream real.
2013 Challenger: The Horchata Crew
The Crew’s back to enter the challenge once again!  This will be our second year (third year for Crew artist, Pitang) in 30characters.com  It’s always been a fun event to participate with so many other fellow artists and the sets of characters generated during this time are never wasted.  Let’s see what the Muses shall grant us this time!
The Horchata Crew consist of Joseph Noblit, a grad student who mostly takes care of the writing, and Faith Orcino aka Pitang/Pepita, an artist and Art and Entertainment editor for her university newspaper. Â Though we’re currently occupied with school, we take time to cultivate the number of stories and projects. Â While we may get many assignments and work, the 30 Characters Challenge is something wonderful to devote time and effort towards. Â It is a very unique opportunity to expand your repertoire of characters as well and your skills and range.

The Horchata Crew’s 2012 30
This year was fun especially since my HC writer, Joseph Noblit, joined me in the challenge. Â We created a new set, very different from my superheroes from last year. Â A lot of technical problems occured, but I was able to have it done all by the end of the month. Â A ton of learning happened while creating these pretty people and I really hope I can move forward with their corresponding stories. Â I really enjoyed seeing everyone’s work and hope that we’ll have a more exciting challenge next year~!
#23: Samantha and Imogen the Hostesses
Like the other restaurant character, these are based off of friends of my writer. Â These are their actual personalities, more like the female version of the twin hosts from Ouran High School Host Club…
#14: Jason Tanaka
Julia and Martin Tanaka decided to adopt after finding out that Julia could not have children.  They found Jason at the  local orphanage and fell in love with him.  He was only 6 when he became a member of this unique family.  He is a very chill dude and isn’t surprised by a lot of things.  Though his parents tend to have busy schedules, they make time to spend with Jason and as a family.  He first picked up the trumpet after hearing his (adopted) grandfather play at a small concert.
#13: Raquelle Beatrice Pearl
She is a very tough cookie. Â Her relationship with Sirius had a very rough start, but the two ended up settling down thanks to the kids. Â Her middle name was her grandmother’s.
#12: Sirius Thomas Pearl
Sirius Thomas Pearl is not his real name. Â He took his wife’s last name and also chose his first name after the star. Â He’s not an ordinary pilot.
#11: Stanley Pearl
He is more reserved compared to the rest of his family. Â Like his sister, he looks similar to his mother compared to his father.
#10: Katherine Pearl
She belongs to the same story as Derrik. Â She, her brother and father have similar differences though she looks a lot like her mother.
#09: Derrik Bowen
I’ve been working on his story for a couple of days, but he has a secret which makes him very different compared to his fellow classmates. Â His favorite subject is Physics and he wants to become a pilot.
#08: Kristoph Grimalda
He’s the gentle (human) giant who takes care of the group. Â He’s the main cook while also being the tank. Â He has wears a hybrid of leather and branded mail armor. Â Most of the scars on his face were due to accidents.
#07: Johanna Grimalda
I would consider her as the rogue of  the mythical team.  She is human and rarely shows her soft side.
#06: Mae Creber
Mae is a tough cookie with a soft heart. Â The tattoos she has are the Greek medical symbol with the two snakes with wings spiraling around the rod on the back side of her neck and various stitches tattoos around her body. Â Even though her family has been involved in medicine for a long time, it took her some time to realize that this was what she wanted to do. Â Her fiancee is an EMT.
#05 : Edco Dorr
This sylph’s personality was based off of the “Chick” TV trope. Â He is a highly skilled sorcerer, but is needed mainly as the team medic. Â He is a stubborn one and personally likes to appear without his makeup and show his sylph birthmarks. Â The breeze that follows him tend to have a pleasant fragrance.
#03 : Deadline Deenah
I’ve had this idea for a long time and felt like this challenge would be good to finally give this character a more physical form. Â When the deadlines appear, they are created in a random color and in different areas in her body, but in a visible part (usually limbs). Â She always been bad with time which caused her to be in the situation she is in.
#04: Lucille “Luc” Welsh
One of my stories feature an elite group of researchers and innovators. Â Years ago I created Dr. Welsh, but never Mrs. Welsh. Â To tell you the truth, she has a tragic ending. Â There’s really no spoilers in that since that’s when the story starts. Â Still, even though she’s not there physically, Mrs. Welsh has a big role.
#02 – The Wandering Heir
The Wandering Heir is a ghost who is trapped in the land he haunts.  He was the oldest son of the founder of a business empire.  His death is a mystery and he wishes that no one ends up in the same situation.  He is a benevolent spirit.
