2013: Returning Challenger Approaches

| October 29, 2013 | 0 Comments

Returning Challenger Hey Y’all!  I’m back for another month long round of character designs!!!

I’m Chrystle Roth aka theJabberwokk. I am currently 26 years old and going to school now for business administration. I still like drawing sexy women and designing costume. BUT! This past year I join a goofy DeviantArt group that does nothing but draw Sailor Moon characters traditionally.  They offer art challenge s and I have found my new fav thing to do: Design and color the most un-traditional Sailor Scouts ever.  I drew fricken Daft Punk inspired Scouts that had pasties.  PASTIES!  Albeit they were technically bad guys but whatever.

This year, like last year, I am going to use one of those theme challenges for my entries.  This years is the secondary/modified monster list. I am, however, going to do strictly females of various body shapes, sizes and ages.  As much as i know i need to improve on my male forms, with working retail (still), I know i need to be able to get off work and draw a form that I KNOW I can modify to be unique, without worrying about whether or not the downstairs anatomy even makes sense.

Here’s wishing everyone luck!!!

The End( is Nigh)- 30 Charas in 30 Days

I’m not sure if I learned anything, but I do think I’ve improved upon my time management as well as trying to draw things I’m not comfortable with.

(lookie!! Hardly any girls!! lol)

Day 29: Spyrus

| November 30, 2012 | 0 Comments

S.P.Y.R.U.S. is the universal company of Lego Space Pirates! They hunt down whatever is shiny, techy or useful to their cause: to be rich!

And this is the archnemesis of Black Steel, their bloodthirsty robotecha leader, Spirous Speram!

Day 27: Colonel Curt O’ Spathe

| November 27, 2012 | 0 Comments

Curt is a true Northerlander warrior! He was the sergeant back in the Playmobil war and a true friend to Indy & Pat and since then he climbed on the ierarchy. He is now the most beloved Colonel of Lego army and responsible for Legearth and Lego Space, if not Universe!

And yes, his arch-nemesis is Octanios.

But, let’s go a bit more into Lego Space, shall we?

Day 25: Dr. Tentapous

| November 25, 2012 | 0 Comments

Dr.Tentapous used to be Doctor Chi Bush Desh and he was passioned with making artificial organs. After an accident caused not by default but by Enesos Poison, he was crippled so bad that begged Enesos to help him, and gave away all his research. Thus, Doctor Tentapous, as in Octopus but with 10 members. Enesos thought he had his perfect assistant, but his transformation was part of a plan and…well you see what has happened and now he is out there doing nasty things…

| November 25, 2012 | 0 Comments

Sea Humonster, Mane Wyvern. When a mutated octopus slid it’s way into Mane’s cranium, it grew… more ways than one. It became him. During the final moments of Mane’s consciousness  the mutant assumed control and burst it’s tentacles out.  Some people who knew him could still see his facial features remain in the newly sculpted concoction.

Day 24: Enesos Poison

| November 24, 2012 | 0 Comments

There is good science, there is bad science and then there is…insanity!

Doctor Enesos used to be an academic doc that respected life more than anyone! One day all his life was ruined and his whole family & village burnt to the ground, during the Playmobil war. Since then, he rejected sanity of his vocabulary… The Living BRICK was only one of his abominations. The most dangerous was another unfortunate fellow doctor, Doctor Tentapous!

Day 23: The Living B.R.I.C.K.

| November 24, 2012 | 0 Comments

Thuck Nysteros was the assistant of the insane Doc named Enesos Poison. He was so fully loyal to him, that accepted to be the guinea pig for an experiment studying the possibilites of an actual merge of living and non-living things. That’s how Brotesque Recklessly Injected Cubic Kal was created. It’s a huge living brick containing Thuck’s soul. Utterly mindless and with absolutely no purpose in it’s life… The definition of a living brick.

Day 22: The InvisibLega

| November 22, 2012 | 0 Comments

Nick Lega is the twin brother of Indiana. DON’T YOU SEE THE SIMILARITY? 😛

Well, he was visible, until a toxic accident made him invisible. Till then he’s practically nowhere to found. He usually haresses models and beautiful girls and then he lights up a cigar wearing his cool glasses. He is a grey character, not bad, not good. Somewhere between.

Day 11: Dark Chris Forester

| November 11, 2012 | 0 Comments

Dark Chris is the bigger protective and brutal brother of lil’ Chris. Yup, he is the bad cop during interrogations and he got his nickname due to his ruthlessness when trying to solve a case.

He loves his little sister but despises Indy.

Day 10: Chris Forester

| November 11, 2012 | 0 Comments

Chris Forester is a private investigator. He loves drinking Lego Cola and is a mutant. Along with his older brother has a small office where the Forester Investigations are. She usually plays the good cop when interrogating for info and she’s an admirer of Indy.

Day 6: Inspector O’ Mustack

| November 6, 2012 | 0 Comments

Big Mak a.k.a. Maxwell O’ Mustack is the chief inspector of Lego City and a very close friend of Indy. No, he doesn’t have any Indiana Lega Signal to call him. He has his phone instead. More practical. ^^ Mak has saved Indy’s life in the Playmobil war too and since then they are best pals. Or not? Actually Pat is Indy’s best pal but now it’s complicated.

Agent Sophie

Sleepy farty super sleuth golden lab

Ball? Squirrel?

Agent Sophie is known for her attention to detail and her perserverence in the field.  Junior agents often are interested in working with and learning about the world through partnerships.

“You see, it’s time to throw the ball.  Ball.  Ball.  See?  Ball.  Ball.  Now.  Throw.”

Certainly not known for gruffness or fierceness, Agent Sophie is a big fan of the simple things, and occassional directness in conversation.

“Now let’s throw the ball.  Ball.  Now.  Let’s throw the ball.  Ball.”

#10 Dreamer

| November 10, 2011 | 0 Comments

Her scar doesn’t define who she is, but she still thinks of better things in the world.

#8 Miranda Glynnis

| November 8, 2011 | 0 Comments

In the world of Elhi, everyone knows 3 things about Mermaids.

1.Because they don’t have souls,Mermaids,and Mermen,cannot die.

2.If you possess a Mermaid’s comb, she must do your bidding.

3.Whatever name she gives you is a false one.Land dwellers CANNOT pronounce a mermaids true name.

70 years ago the mermaid known as Miranda Waverly, had her comb stolen by Herminia Ingraham, owner of Ingraham’s Traveling Oddities, and was forced to perform in her show. She spent night after night sitting in a murky tank, and flirting with whatever rube happened to tap on the glass. After 7 years of this the show pulled into the city of Purgatory, nestled at the base of the Tarrasque  Mountains and split into 3 parts by the Alighieri river. It was supposed to be a 2 week stay, but a fire at the theater ended the life of Herminia and the days of her traveling show.As the rubble was cleared Miranda stayed at the site, searching desperately for her comb, for without it she can’t return to the sea.She never found it,nor has she discovered it’s whereabouts in the decades since.

Miranda’s skin is pale like Mother of Pearl, and she has deep blue eyes, and hair that, like the ocean itself goes from light blue green to stygian black as it cascades down her back. Her tail is bands of blue and purple and ends in bright blue fins with black tips. She has adjusted to life on land, though she must spend one day per week completely submerged in salt water to maintain her health. The local population of RiverFolk have unofficially adopted her as one of their own, though some of the Nixies still snub her.

#6 Kihalo The Dealer of Secrets

| November 6, 2011 | 0 Comments

Kihalo is an goddess worshiped in the world of Elhi.Long ago during the First Age she discovered the true name of  Dorosyn, god of Chaos, and bargained it away to his daughter Eris in exchange for the knowledge of her heart’s desire. She used this to leverage the ways of Creation from the Wise One Turyn and traded that to Mungul,The First God of the Orcs, so that he could have a race in his own image. What Mungul traded to her has been lost to the ages though radical theologians point out that Kihalo’s daughter Yethrin appears in the world not long after this deal is struck. This is usually met with derision, and the occasional fist from followers of Kihalo and Mungul.

Kihalo trades in information. She doesn’t care how trivial it seems,or useless it is to her,she knows someone will pay dearly for it.Kihalo trades fairly, always taking from supplicants a secret that is just as important as the one she gives. She also doesn’t care what is done with the information, whether it leads the person into redemption or dooms an entire civilization to ruin.In the end it all leads to new secrets for her to trade.

The caffination will not be televised.

No Gods.  No Kings.  Serve Yourself.

#3 Ninja Accountant

Who cooks the books for Ninjas?

It must be a tough job sorting out all the death/payment ratios, tax breaks and expenses!

Those ninja stars don’t pay for themselves you know!

Character template so I don’t lose it.

Full name:

I’ll probably add to this as I go, but here’s a basic idea of how I’ll map them out.  Feel free to use it if you want?  I don’t know.

I tend to do this thing called Portrait Practice November as well, so depending on how that goes I might combine this with that.

So yeah, bye now.

2011 Challenger: Thaddeus Howze – Hub City Blues

| October 6, 2011 | 0 Comments

Welcome to Hub City Blues, a character database I am creating for the 30 Character Challenge.

This contest is designed to foster creativity in artists and writers to create new character designs. The mission: Create a new character every day in the month of November. Creating compelling characters is a part of either medium, so it’s a skill well worth developing.

I am not an artist, I am a writer. Since this contest was originally for artists trying to experiment with different styles, it works a little bit different for writers. The contest is to challenge writers to create characters with compelling backgrounds that would make people want to read about them. Not as visually satisfying as art, so I suspect it is more challenging to maintain the attention of readers (especially if they are really looking for art).

To help readers (and myself), I sometimes find artwork and create characters inspired by that artwork. It doesn’t mean I could not have done it without the art, its more that the art connects with something in my head and my character makes sense to me. Sometimes the art’s background may inspire an idea or theme that may permeate the work. Unless I commission a piece, it is rare that the work being paid homage to has any knowledge this is happening. So in respect for each work, I will be pointing back to the source of the art and the name of the artist if it can be found. I will give credit and links to artists who have inspired my creativity.

Since I am a working writer, most of these characters will be coming from works in progress, stories I am about to be publishing or novellas whose future is not in doubt. It is likely that each profile will be of different density depending on the depth of the work, and the amount of development I have done with the character in question. I may also make links to stories if they are already in play online somewhere so you can see how they were used.

The website’s name comes from a series of short stories centered in a place called Hub City, a city of the future, whose promising beginnings have been overrun and become instead, a hive of tech-saavy scum and villainy. Hub City’s police force, locally called the Hub City Blues, have done their best to control this recent invasion of organized crime, but is unable to stem the tide.

A year ago, Hub City was under siege by a new monster seeking to establish order; his order. By any means necessary. His name is Hyde. Universally feared, he is death incarnate. Criminals fear him, the police despise him and no one knows who is is or what he wants. All they know is, if you are a criminal and he finds you, you better hope you find a cop first. Otherwise, you’re dead. Hyde, Portrait of a Modern Monster.

Welcome to Hub City. Obey the laws and enjoy your trip.
