#29 Shaard, the fallen

| November 29, 2012 | 0 Comments

Once a member of the Orbhost, Shaard has become an agent of destruction, misery and pain through evil and malicious acts against all life. His path to this state is largely unknown, but it is clear that the wars of attrition between the Upper and Lower kingdoms of Ovin in ages past were mirrors of the conflict taking place on an adjacent plane of existence, with Shaard battling his former brethren for dominance of their own plane. Although defeated in these clashes, the fallen one managed to not only reduce the Host’s number and therefore their effectiveness at protecting and inspiring humanity, but he also managed to escape from the celestial plane to our own.

#28 The Orbhost

| November 28, 2012 | 0 Comments

Agents of light, beings of pure joy, the Orbhost are celestial creatures that few have ever seen, although most benefit from their benevolent intervention.

The Orbhost are legion, but seem to lack individual personalities, although admittedly judging such beings by standards of human behavior is difficult at best.

There is only one recorded instance of one of the Host developing individuality, that of the fallen Shaard.

| November 27, 2012 | 0 Comments

Defeated repeatedly in their bids for world domination by the mysterious and violent girl superhero “Z”, these 5 evil scientists decided to join forces and combine their brainpower to crush their enemy and finally dominate the world.

To gauge their relative success after having met with Z once in their new incarnation, it is illustrative to mention that there were originally six members.

#24 Bloorp

| November 24, 2012 | 0 Comments

Bloorp (in his people’s language) was an envoy of a race of subterranean mud people, sent to the surface to gather information for an invasion. Upon arriving, he experienced human culture for the first time and became entranced by our ways and in particular music.

Forgetting his plans to subjugate humanity, he took up the electric keyboard and started busking on the streets of the big city. Unfortunately, his stubby fingers make it difficult to do changes, and he has no ear for music. Or ears of any sort, for that matter.

Supernatural detective and man of action, The Fiend uses wit, cunning and prowess to combat evil and embarass those who would exploit the weak.

#21 Switch

| November 21, 2012 | 0 Comments

Ronald Meyers was an average man, physically unimpressive, though intelligent and thoroughly educated. He worked as a lab assistant in a government observatory, which unbeknownst to him was conducting experiments with the newest electron telescope to analyze the nuclear reactions of the sun and tap into tidal forces from it at a quantum level. One miscalculation and massive explosion later, Ronald awoke to find that he had not only survived, he had gained the ability to convert his body mass to radiant energy and vice versa. Using this new ability to augment himself to superhuman levels of strength and endurance, he set out to fight crime and seek out the manufacturers of shoddy scientific equipment.

#20 Night Hawk

| November 20, 2012 | 0 Comments

INTERVIEWER:  Thanks for joining us tonight for this interview Mr., um..Hawk. I know that your time is valuable.

NH: The streets are a rising tide of crime that never stops. I need to surf that tide, for the protection of ordinary people.

INTERVIEWER:  I see. Well, I’m sure that we all appreciate your crimefighting work. And I’m just as sure that we would all love to know more about you. Can you tell us about yourself?

NH:  I am the night.

INTERVIEWER:  Okaaaaay, about that; where did you come by your “work name”? Are you swooping down on street crime like a hawk?

NH: I use the fear of my enemies against them. I use control of my own fear to show them the darkness of their ways.

INTERVIEWER:  You’re…afraid of birds?

NH: No, there is this painting-people in a lonely diner at night. It always filled me with dread. A dread my enemies now share.

INTERVIEWER: Excuse me, did you just say you make your enemies afraid of a painting? Why are you dressed like a bird?

NH:  Criminals are a superstitious and ignorant lot. I don’t think they would get the reference.

INTERVIEWER:  So, you dress up as a bird and fight crime…because you were scared of a painting?

NH:  I am the night.

INTERVIEWER: Okay…I’m getting word that we’re out of time. Thank you very much for the interview Mister Hawk. Careful of the doorframe, I noticed your helmet seems a little hard on your peripheral vision.

NH: I stay focused on the crime in front of me.

INTERVIEWER:  Good idea.

#19 Jethro (X-289)

| November 19, 2012 | 0 Comments

An alien creature, captured by the government and confined to a lab, the entity designated as X-289 has escaped very recently and is on the loose. If encountered, he may respond to the nickname he was given by (former) lab technician Susan Jacob, “Jethro”. He is also fond of peanut butter, and can be easily coaxed into an opened cereal box, providing there is some product left in the bottom. A large reward is offered for his return to the U.S. State Department.

Be advised he may have found some way to disguise himself.

As part of an insidious alien invasion, the Purge unit is deposited into large population centers, disguised as a child’s action figure.  When it has located sufficient material and energy resources, it switches from the insertion mode to the assimilation mode, and begins conversion of local matter into body mass. This process continues until the Purge unit has reached sufficient size to overwhelm the local population, or until the local resources are depleted.

#5 The Phantom Pompadour

| November 5, 2012 | 2 Comments

The witching hour, a night bird cries in the distance. A chill creeps into air, like the skeletal hand of death itself. You feel a clammy sweat covering your forehead.  Is that faint surf guitar you hear-perhaps the revving of a distant hot rod? The ghostly image of rockabilly hair is seen, floating down the hall…

#4 Kingfish

| November 4, 2012 | 0 Comments

He’s the ruler of the Deep! Honestly, this one was what I thought was a nifty name that I developed a character for. My first instinct for this was (of course) a gangster fish, followed immediately by a huge hulking death machine of a shark. These both seemed a little too on the nose, so I picked the least likely (yet still literal, I know, I know…) sea creature I could imagine with the moniker. And the crown and scepter. He may look innocuous, even in his regalia, but I’d think twice about crossing him. He might know Aquaman or something.

#1 Crazy Hands

| November 1, 2012 | 0 Comments

My first post of the 2012 challenge!

This character is called “Crazy Hands”, for a number of reasons:

  • It’s an affectionate nickname, necessary due to the fact that the only sounds he seems capable of making are shrieking laughter and a guttural, repetitive sound that resembles giggling.
  • He has the league record in outfield catches for his after work softball team
  • He has unwanted thoughts syndrome, and keeps dropping his medicine.
  • He seems to be comprised entirely of hands and crazy.

Excited to be participating again this year-good luck, everybody!
