Hello_Guys – it’s been a little while since I’ve done this, but I think I might be able to kill two birds with one stone by doing it again this year.

I’m currently doing covers and interiors for Dynamite on GRIMM: It’s Portland, Wu, working on storyboards for Marvel, and a few other projects in the works including a creator-owned comic RELAUNCH with Ron Perazza, and Supernatural Geographic with Brandon Siefert. On top of this I do commissions out the wazoo.

I’m attempting to finish a ton of character pieces for a few projects I have coming up in the next year – some I want to kickstart, others that are just ideas I need to get out on paper before they’re lost to my imagination. I’ll probably be a day or two behind at first as this was kind of a last minute decision for me, and I’ll do my best to comment on pieces. I doubt mine will offer much more information than the images at this point – I want to keep the info about them private for now, but I hope they tell a story despite the lack of textual info.

Good luck everyone on finishing this year!

#12 – Thasa, Ink Sister

| November 22, 2011 | 1 Comment

The Ink Sisters are servants to Atlantean nobility, acting as both handmaidens and protectors. Thasa, being the young princesses confidant.

#11 Porcelina

Atlantean Noble.

#10 Sanu

| November 13, 2011 | 2 Comments

Born on the big island of Hawaii, Sanu simply thought he was getting tribal tats put on his body – adding a belly design and paying tribute to his gang, when something went horribly wrong. as the last dot of ink was added to his belly design, more tattoos grew up his neck and over his face and head, and finally over his back. Something took him over. Something otherworldly, and now he is inhabitted by a spirit of unimaginable power. Sanu was placed on the team after leveling a small village on Molokai, killing everyone. He is used by the team primarily as a “nuke” – being brought into impossible situations where there is no other hope.

#8 Survivalist

| November 11, 2011 | 4 Comments

Not much is known about the Survivalist, except he’s the guy you want on your team when the zombie apocalypse happens. It’s assumed he is ex military of some sort, and he says very, VERY little, resorting to gestures or silence to get his points across. His abilities as a tracker are uncanny, and as a combatant, he is an expert at hand-to-hand combat and escape and evade. He rarely uses firearms, resorting to bows, knives, and various other missile weapons. Sort of a last minute addition to the team, often he decides the course of action they take.

#7 Tuff Stuff

| November 10, 2011 | 0 Comments

She may look frail and non-threatening, but this tiny dynamo packs a wallop. The strongest member of the team, Merissa (Tuff-stuff or “Tuff” for short), possesses strength that has yet to be limit-tested. She has raised buildings, pushed locomotives, and lifted naval vessels off their moorings. She is impervious to damage of all kinds as her cells are unusually bonded to one another in a way that has mystified science. Her hair can of course not be cut, and oddly has not grown since her powers manifested themselves, (something Tuff is not a fan of). Like Mosh, Merissa first became an abuser of her powers, but her morality got the better of her and over the past year she has begun setting her past to right.

She is also fluent in French and loves her dog.

(PS – Happy Birthday Melissa!)

#6 Mosh

| November 7, 2011 | 3 Comments

A level 3 Porter, Mosh is quite a bitch. Years of being able to be anywhere at any time has twisted her somewhat; being an international assassin for hire for the last 5 years has made her quite the target for nearly every country. Her only out: joining the other circus freaks on the team…

#5 Sciven Quick-foot

| November 7, 2011 | 4 Comments

A revolutionary oof the world of Trizzt, Sciven is not a supporter of the Earthlings and their colonization program. She sees the Earthers for what they are: Resource theives; Locusts at best, hoping from world to world and gobbling up what they can, leaving the planets they colonize diseased and barren. Sciven understands the need for allies, though. The rumors circulating from other worlds of the burning ones, has reachedher ears as well…of the conquerors. They ARE coming.

Trizzt will not cower. Trizzt will not bow. Trizzt will fight back. Sciven knows this.

#4 The Green Monks

| November 7, 2011 | 4 Comments

There is only one religion of the beings of Charn, and the Green Monks are the preachers of Aresium. The holy word of Aresium speaks of the Architect, or creator of all known beings. The Monks are a vast organization with tendrils spread throughout most of the known galaxy, with various operatives dedicated to specific goals of the Monks and the Pillars. The Pillars guide the Monks in the desires of the Majestrix. Secretly the role of of the Green Monks has been to find evidence of the creator in all beings which thus far has been the case, but a new initiative has been put forth by the Majestrix herself since the conquering of a new world on the outskirts of the Dominion. A world inhabited by a race of prognosticators…

#3 – Colem Cready

| November 7, 2011 | 0 Comments

2011 - 3 - Colem Cready - by Daniel Govar

A former football player, and “that guy”, Colem has assisted the colonization of at least a dozen new worlds since Earth began the New Life program. He has been awarded numerous accolades for valor and diplomacy, (something he chuckles at), and amazingly has not seen heavy casualties on any of his off-world missions. His current mission to Trizzt 4, is a bit different. The indigenous people who currently live there are very welcoming to new cultures and even the new colony. They’ve offered only friendship and have asked that their people be allowed to live amonst human worlds – something the New Life program has not seen yet. Perhaps humanity has found it’s first true  interstellar ally…

#2 Eyre

| November 4, 2011 | 14 Comments

#2 Eyre by Daniel Govar

A Blue from Charn, Eyre is of course one of their warrior caste, exemplified by his blue burn and four arms. Eyre is known as a world conqueror; bringing five worlds under the Majestrix’s domain. Eyre commands the elite Twelfth Column and reports directly to the Pillars themselves.

Eyre is surprisingly young for a Blue with his accolades, being only on his sixth burn. Like all Blues, Eyre has distaste for the lower burning Ambers and Yellows. Bred for war and educated by imprint well before his first burn, Eyre has only ever had contact with the lower castes through the off-world missives of the Pillars. The Amber, Phoen, appears to him competent, unlike most Ambers, and far more fetching than he was led to believe capable in an Amber. He has heard of color-mixing before, but typically the Blues and Greens have destroyed their lovers afterwards to remove evidence of their lapses in judgement. Eyre finds this weakness for carnal pleasure strange. Why risk so much?

#1 Phoen

| November 1, 2011 | 10 Comments

2011 Phoen - Daniel Govar

Little more than a mid-level burner, Phoen is a lonely emissary of the star-torn world of Charn. Her soft amber flame denoted her as a glorified messenger, and she had resolved herself with her fate until the off-worlder pushed her towards more…She didn’t seek more. She never wanted to arouse the blues or purples. Attracting their attention never ended well for ambers.

Hrm – let’s see, I guess the best thing to say is that art rules my life. Well, art and my dog – he keeps me in line most of the time. I work on comics I want to work on these days, and do commissions daily. I do book covers and magazine and novel interiors. Over the past 2 years I’ve been doing comic conventions – about 10 or so a year – mostly on the east coast, but I plan to add Emerald City and perhaps one of the other west coast cons to my list this coming year. I created a comic that you can find on Comixology and DC Comics Apps called AZURE and I created a website of Tolkien love called ThereAndBackAgain.net. I post art almost every day – seriously, and have the world’s greatest boxer named Sandor.

If you follow my tweets I may be drinking and I may be drawing – at the same time. 😐 To find out more about me check out my personal site: http://www.danielgovar.com and my DeviantArt page: http://saulone.deviantart.com/

I also designed the look and feel for THIS site and the templates you are hopefully going to be using to post your stuff 🙂 I’m a 2 time challenger and 2 time finisher (ok, that sounded bad…). Check out my past 30 characters love here: http://www.30characters.com/author/dan_govar/

Gents and ladies – start your engines and good luck!

Daniel Govar – 30 Characters

| December 1, 2010 | 6 Comments

This was a crazy busy month. My only real regret was that I didn’t factor in the Virginia Comic Con being such a success for me. (Definitely go to this con next year!) I had thought that weekend I could catch-up a bit, but I think this month, I’ve had a total of about 20 commissions, counting those from the con. That’s on top of the challenge characters. Last night broke me, trying to rush the last few out – and that’s something I never like doing.

I’ve been turned onto a good number of creative talents here that I was unaware of – for that I am extremely grateful. For all the comments and feedback you’ve all given my pieces – thank you all very much. Big ups to Tyler for having the idea and gathering us all together, AND hosting the challenge. My hats off to you, sir. Tyler and I have been chatting about next year, so expect some of the bugs to be worked out – especially with the posting issues we had from time to time. With that – I give you my full 30 Characters all in one neat linked post (there’s a new PSD template on the Participants Info page):

Lovers out of time and out of place. Passing the sword as the seasons change.

#28 Rapt-wyrm of Coilos

| November 30, 2010 | 4 Comments

Dwelling in caves and caverns, this beastie is one of the larger breeds of Wyrm. The Rapt-wyrm of Coilos has the distinction of being the largest in recorded memory and at least Ninety-Seven deaths can be attributed to him alone.

#27 Zacharael, the Fallen

| November 30, 2010 | 2 Comments

Once the Angel of Surrender, Zacharael himself surrendered to the doubt building in his heart, and in so doing became one of the Fallen.

#26 Coriander Cindersilk

| November 30, 2010 | 2 Comments

The epitome of a perfect faerie: Wild at heart with moxie to spare, but delicate and inviting on the outside.

#25 Gnorn, Lord of the Gnoll

| November 30, 2010 | 0 Comments

Frightening to behold, but beyond gentle, the Gnoll call mountain-ranges home. Rarely coming to the surface, Gnoll prefer to let the surface-dwellers bicker amongst themselves. Gnoll are one of the oldest lived of all creatures, and their leader, Gnorn, remembers the birth of the first Dragon. Gnorn was also the first Gnoll to slay a Dragon, and because of that terrible accident, Gnoll’s are the only living creature Dragons fear.

#24 Zorn Glitterscale

| November 30, 2010 | 2 Comments

Dragons are regal even at their worst. Zorn could very well be the most evil dragon to have ever lived. He has devoured seven of his own riders, and while some think him misunderstood, the grin he wears after every despicable deed is easy enough to read.

#22 Otis

| November 30, 2010 | 2 Comments

Hick? Redneck? Bad-ass? All true of Otis. Raised in Toad-Suck, Arkansas, (It’s a real place people), Otis knew only fishing, hunting, and chasing tail, until the tail chased back with a set of fangs that would have put Otis’s coon-hound Blue to shame. That’s when Otis learned he had a particular talent for Vamp-killin’.

That’s really not the way I wanted to nail you, Clara-belle.

#21 Lexi

| November 30, 2010 | 0 Comments

Most see Lexi for what she is: an exotic dancer. Fallen angels in every proffession, life would be easier if we could see the wings.

#20 Samsonite Stevens, Marine

| November 28, 2010 | 0 Comments

Sam Stevens is one of the few aboard the Vega 7 who joined the colonial marines of his own accord. Desperate to get out of becoming a water farmer in the outer colonies like most of his family, Sam wanted a little adventure in his life. What Sam didn’t realize is that the new colonial marine corps goes everywhere and does everything – while flying. Sam is not fond of flying and failed jetpack training a record thirty-six times before finally being passed out of frustration by a sergeant who retired the following day.

Sam is tough as nails and quick on his feet, and it’s a good thing: Due to his being flying-challenged, Sam tends to meet most of the larger forms of wildlife and dangers up-close and personal.

Sam’s favorite phrase: “Hell yeah! Breathable atmosphere!”
