YYamakaji. Every un-checked and discarded cigarette butt has the potential to spawn Yamakaji.

Hayato and Kaori

| November 30, 2011 | 0 Comments

Hayato and Kaori. Their mothers were best friends in high school. Both had their only child at the same age of 20, and Hayato and Kaori were even born an exact month apart. As elementary students Hayato and Kaori saw each other almost every day, growing up almost like brother and sister. Their sense of fashion and taste in music, which was first imposed on them by their take-the-kids-to-the-venue-for-our-friends’-rock-show attitude has since developed into their own adult version.

Soba Phantom

| November 27, 2011 | 0 Comments

In Iwate Prefecture, Japan, a famous regional food is wanko soba, soba being buckweat noodles, and wanko soba being a specialty style of eating: challengers attempt to eat 100 small bowls of soba in one sitting. Anyone who tries the challenge is offered bowl after bowl from a waitress standing close by, relentlessly pushing bowls onto the diner, regardless of whether he is trying to tell her he has had enough.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanko_soba

This is the wanko soba phantom. She appears only for a brief second in dark corners or dim corridors. She appears to people who feel like they have been pushed to their limits, physically, emotionally or mentally, and are about to snap. She says nothing, but for the individuals unlucky enough to see her and about to be pushed into complete breakdown her message is clear:

“just one more”

Garrett

| November 20, 2011 | 0 Comments

Garrett works at an accounting firm in New York. Though he’s living in the “Big Apple,” to which he excitedly moved after graduating college in one town over from his home town in rural Pennsylvania, his life isn’t nearly as exciting as he thought it would be after the move.

He’s all and out average, a fact which he is well aware of. Of course he has his little quirks, just like anyone, but he only wears them when he’s vacuuming.

The Ghost of Drowned Madeline

| November 5, 2011 | 1 Comment

Madeline drowned at sea when the ribbons of her dress were pulled into the propeller of a motor boat. An occasional sighting of the ten year old’s ghost is reported by fishermen in her home town. She is always glimpsed white and limp, drifting in a cloud of jellyfish.

Anna

| November 3, 2011 | 2 Comments

Anna has a coolness about her that attracts some, but turns others off. If they don’t like her, though, she’s too cool to care. She’s quiet until she has something to say, sporatically enthused by things no one can predict, and prone to mood swings. A difficult personality to get along with, but inspiring and fun for those patient enough to get to know her. She associates more with males, who don’t mind her silence and frankness than females whom often feel intimidated or offended.

Plays bass guitar and does pen sketches. Rarely seen without headphones.

Sasori

どうせただの虫だと思ってた

あの娘のポケットにいつでも隠してる

小さな針でぼくをチクッとさして遊ぶ

退屈な夜のひまつぶしに

She has a child’s fascination with insects: playing with them, jarring them, plucking the wings off them. Her impish ways are alluring, but she will just as soon poke pins through the  hearts of those who fall for her as the specimens in her collections. Playing with her insects, toys, or peoples’ hearts is just her amusement for Sasori.

Oiran de los Muertos

| November 1, 2011 | 7 Comments

November 1st, Day of the Dead. The Oiran de los Muertos. She dances, perhaps in a Day of the Dead parade, perhaps in a private corner room of an Edo Period Japanese tea house in the Yoshiwara pleasure quarters. It’s hard to distinguish between beautiful and frightening, but she is eerily captivating to all those who see her.
