Hey there! I'm Spesiria, an 18 years old writer/artist/history student/procrastinator from the Netherlands, who has no idea what other information should be put in a bio. I like creating my own fantasy worlds and stuffing them with a shit-ton of characters, which is (for this challenge) pretty much all you need to know about me, haha!

#4 Addae

| November 4, 2011 | 0 Comments

I’m slow and late and now I don’t have time to write out the entire story, so I’ll just tell you who the character is and edit this post with the full story later. Addae is shy, always indecisive and insecure. He is the guy who just nods and agrees with everything everyone says because he doesn’t want to start any arguments (and if he does accidentally start an argument, he can’t apologize often enough for having an opinion). He is also very kind, sensitive and understanding, and often funny in an extremely unintentional way. Also a fire mage. And being a fire mage was kind of a problem back in the days when earth mages were dominating the entire continent and when slave-trade was a very profitable business.

When he was thirteen years old he was captured by slavers and sold to Atash‘s father (then king of one part of the earth mage kingdoms), who gave Addae to his son as a present for his sixteenth birthday (yeah, this is a world where dads give their sons a slave for their birthday, how nice). They ended up befriending each other and grew very, very close. When Atash’s father died seven years later en Addae fully became Atash’s “property”, Atash decided to set him free. Despite being so close to Atash, Addae saw that as his duty to return to his family. But when he got back to the land of the fire mages and was reunited with his family, he realized that he didn’t feel at home among his own family anymore. Though he had missed his family seven years ago, he now missed the place where he spend his teenage years and, more than that, he missed Atash. After spending a few weeks with his family, his homesickness got so bad that he just packed his stuff and walked away one night (without informing his family that he was going back, probably to avoid confrontation. The chicken :U). He eventually found his way back to Atash, who was overjoyed to have him back. A couple of years later the two got married, and Addae received the title of High Prince.

As happy as that part of the story ended, the full story is actually pretty tragic :c I will type out the rest of it tomorrow!

#3 Atash al Darakhshan

| November 3, 2011 | 5 Comments

Let’s continue the story! Meet Atash al Darakhshan, better know as the Red King (gee I wonder why). The king of the earth mages. A kind, jovial, somewhat over-enthusiastic guy with a firm grip on his country. He’s the first earth mage king in years who managed to centralize the entire government of his country and place all control in his own hands. Things were going pretty well: working hard ruling the country during the day, smoking pot at night and fighting tournaments in the weekends. Atash was pretty satisfied with his life and what he had accomplished, and was actually ready to lay back and enjoy a life of routine. Until at some point rumours started spreading through the country about strange people that had been spotted near the border with the Northern mountain ranges. Atash decided that routine was boring anyway and went to investigate. And thus he stumbled upon the Tegus Erdene, Batachikhan and their colony of air and water mages, who had been living in the mountains for about ten years without ever realizing that there were other people living in their holy land.

This caused (what a suprise!) some problems. The “funny” thing about this situation is that not only did the Tegus Erdene and Batachikhan see Atash and his people as strange, barbaric people who had entered the country given to air and water mages by their Goddess (despite the fact that the earth mages had lived in that land longer than they had), the interesting thing was that the earth mages and air/water mages were complete opposites in almost every single way. The most crippling problem was that the air/water mages were a matriarchal society, the earth mages a patriarchal society. The Tegus Erdene and Batachikhan didn’t want to acknowledge Atash as leader of the earth mages because he was male, while Atash didn’t want to acknowledge the Tegus Erdene as leader of the air/water mages because she was female.

This could have resulted in a destructive war and the end of the history of either the earth or the water/air mages, if it wasn’t for both the leaders’ personalities. Atash was a very curious, inquisitive man, and actually would rather learn more about these strange mages who could control water or air and were female dominant than get caught up in a war with them. The Tegus Erdene was a softy and a pacifist who just wanted everyone to be happy and get along with each other. So after a few months of tension, they decided to put aside their differences. Atash and the Tegus Erdene actually became very good friends, spending hours together talking with each other about their cultures and believes. The earth mages watched this interest of their king for the strange foreigners with suspicion. The more time Atash spend with the Tegus Erdene, the more his strong grip on his country loosened and the more people started protesting against him and his relaxed attitude towards what the earth mages saw as foreign invaders. The earth mages were not the only ones who were dissatisfied with the peaceful situation. Batachikhan was convinced that the strong contrast between the air/water mages and earth mages would inevitably lead to war. And she wanted to make sure that she and her people would get the first move.

The Tegus Erdene, as mentioned before, was very sickly. About two years after meeting Atash and the earth mages, she died of heart failure. While Atash was mourning the death of his friend, Batachikhan prepared for war…

Story continues with the next character, as usual!

#2 Batachikhan

Character number two! Here we have Batachikhan. Let’s continue where the yesterday’s story ended. Batachikhan is the influential, charismatic young water mage who heard about the weird “daughter of the goddess” and her visions. She didn’t actually believe a word of the Tegus Erdene’s story, but being an extremely clever, cunning woman, she realized that this situation could be used to her advantage. She had been one of the Water Queen’s advisers for years, but was displeased with her position. She was ambitious and wanted more than just advising a queen who almost never took anyone’s advice anyway. She realized that if the Tegus Erdene managed to gather a bunch of people and lead them to a new country, they would need a proper leader. The Tegus Erdene was a weak, sickly and easily influenceable. Batachikhan knew that this was the chance to become the puppet-master of the leader of a whole new nation.

She won the Tegus Erdene’s trust, sold all her belongings and started travelling with her to spread her message. Batachikhan knew that they’d need other tactics than just talking if they wanted to convince people. She staged “miracles” (aka paying someone a big sum of money to have them pretend that they’re dying, then miraculously get better when the Tegus Erdene touched them). She called herself the Tegus Erdene’s High Priestess and used her persuasive power to convince people that the Tegus Erdene was the real deal. News about the Tegus Erdene started spreading faster than before, and the news was actually positive. From both the water and the air tribes people gathered to listen to Batachikhan and the Tegus Erdene. They were a very good team. Batachikhan had what the Tegus Erdene lacked in social skill and intelligence, while the Tegus Erdene had what Batachikhan lacked in kind-heartedness and compassion.

Eventually, the queens from both the air and water tribe noticed how more and more of their people were leaving the tribe to join some nutcase and a run-away water mage noble, and both queens were not too pleased with this situation.  Both started prosecuting followers of the Tegus Erdene for heresy. The Tegus Erdene, Batachikhan and their followers realized that this was probably the best time to pack their stuff and leave for the promised land…wherever that was. Batachikhan wanted to just travel over land until they found some uninhabited place to settle down. The Tegus Erdene however had another vision and insisted on taking boats and going south. No air or water mage had ever gone south very far and no one knew if there even was more land southwards. Needless to say, this lead to a conflict. Eventually, Batachikhan decided to just agree, having a plan in mind to murder the Tegus Erdene, take the ships and go back to land as soon as possible (did I mention she was kind of a bitch?). Cue to a very tense boat-trip during which Batachikhan constantly tried and failed to get rid of the Tegus Erdene (the difficulty was that it had to look like an accident, because many of their followers really believed that the Tegus Erdene was the daughter of the Goddess and probably wouldn’t be too happy with someone murdering their holy leader).

Just when they ran out of food and people started dying of hunger, thirst and diseases and everyone started to wonder when this promised land was going to show itself, mountain ranges appeared on the horizon. They found a continent no water or air mage had ever seen before. Batachikhan immediately decided to be the Tegus Erdene’s best friend again and looked forward to being the ruler of a new world. The water and air mages believed that they had truly found a land that the Goddess had created just for them. Little did they know that the continent already had inhabitants, and even less did they know how much trouble that would cause in the future…more about that tomorrow with the next character, haha!

#1: Tegus Erdene

Character number 1, the Tegus Erdene. Just a short explanation: in my fantasy world, the Tegus Erdene is the religious and political leader of the water and air mages. The water/air mages believe that she (yes, it’s a she, haha) is the daughter of their Goddess (the moon). Everytime the Tegus Erdene dies, she’s reincarnated and thus has lived for ages and ages. This particular incarnation of the Tegus Erdene is the first of the Tegus Erdene incarnations, and where I’ll start my character creation/world-building/history of my world.

She was an air mage who lived back in the days when water mages and air mages lived separated and were constantly in conflict with each other. As a young girl, she had visions of a bright light she believed to be the Goddess, calling her her daughter and telling her that she was the one who had to gather both air and water mages, unite them and bring them to the promised land. Any normal person would have wondered what the hell kind of drugs they’d taken and moved on. But the Tegus Erdene was a girl who, due to being sickly and an albino in a cold yet sunny country, had lived a very sheltered life and had developed very idealistic views on the world. That, and simply being a girl with a way too vivid imagination for her own good, led to her believing that she was truly the daughter of the Goddess and that she had to gather a bunch of people and travel to the promised land.

Now, imagine being someone who has had almost no contact with any human beings but her parents and siblings for years, and suddenly be thrown into a world full of people with the mission to unite two completely different types of mages who hated each other’s guts and find some sort of land that was apparently promised but you have no idea where it is. Needless to say, she wasn’t very successful in the beginning. Her life became a simple pattern: enter a town. Tell people about vision. Get chased out of town because people think you’re an absolute nutjob. She may have given up (or gotten killed by people who weren’t too happy with the fact that she called herself the Goddess’s daughter) if it wasn’t for the fact that a certain influential, charismatic water mage heard about this weird, socially awkward nutjob of an air mage going from town to town, calling herself the daughter of the Goddess and telling everyone to follow her to some country somewhere. This water mage became the first of the Tegus Erdene’s supporters, realizing that this situation could be used for her own benefit. More about that tomorrow with the next character!

2011 Challenger: Spesiria

| October 30, 2011 | 6 Comments

Uuh I hope I’m doing this right. Anyway, hey!

I’m Spesiria (actually, I do have a real name, but real names are overrated), an artist/writer/history student from the Netherlands. I absolutely love coming up with stories, original worlds/universes and most of all, original characters, so this 30 Characters Challenge is a perfect way to spend my November! I have one world where all my characters live in. Having a boner for history, I thought it might be interesting to combine this challenge with some world-building and create important historical figures from that world for each day. You can expect most of my characters to be total jerks, and if you don’t like men with facial hair, you probably shouldn’t keep an eye on me.

I’m looking forward to it (also hope that I can combine it with school work, ahaha…!) and would like to wish you all the best of luck. Oh, if you want to see my work, visit my DeviantART account here.
