# 30 The Chimaera

| November 30, 2011 | 0 Comments

While the phenomenon known as Chimaerism is rare, the incidence of un-diagnosed cases is in fact much greater then those that are discovered.  The fraternal twin, absorbed during gestation, maintains a presence inside the body and mind, a living link to other dimensions in which he or she was the dominant, consuming fetus.  The individual with the Chimaera may then be endowed with unusual powers of perception.  They may posses the ability to step outside oneself, figuratively, being more self aware- or even literally, through astral projection. Some might even posses the ability to see through time, or into alien worlds, or into others minds.  Automatic or spirit writing is a common practice, as is doodling;  Also morbidity, an obsession with death and the afterlife, as well as spiritualism and channeling   They may be found commonly among artists, composers, and writers.

The strange pupa hung from the branch, longer and thinner then any Raejean had ever seen.

It’s green and violet surface shimmered in the afternoon sun, and she was immediately attracted to it.

An independent girl, Raejean was known for taking long treks in the woods when her chores were complete.  The sun was low in the sky, splashing the clouds with red and orange and casting long shadows in deep blue before she was missed.

Her father found her in the fading light-  He tore open the wheat white cocoon and lifted her out, never noticing that she gripped something in her hand, hidden still in her cloak.

She awoke when they placed her before the fire, and she since she seemed no worse for wear, she was sent to bed with a bowl of broth.  There were questions to be answered, but for now it was sufficient that she was alright-  The thing to do was to let her sleep while the men stayed up late and told other strange tales of the wood around the fire.

When they had gone from her chamber, Raejean sat up.  She sat at her small table, which her father had crafted for her to practice her letters, and finally pulled her hand from the folds of her cloak.  She placed the long, thin object on the table-  it was a touch duller in sheen now, it’s thin outer surface had flaked off-   Gradually, the insect unfolded itself and stood-  A tall stick insect of unusual form, surprisingly upright when standing, it’s appendages appeared dexterous, it’s eyes clever.

“Hello Raejean,” cooed the warm humming voice only she would ever hear.
“Hello….. Wand.”  She smiled, held out her palm, and the creature stepped into it.

#20 The Pseudopodlings of the Cycloptopus

| November 20, 2011 | 4 Comments

We had retrieved a genetic sample off of one of the bodies, and our suspicions were confirmed: The gene sequences matched exactly.  It’s surmised now that, beneath the surface, the feminine forms are in fact attached to the mysterious animal; Mere shape shifting, temporary projections extended from the large alien creature.

#19 Apocrita

| November 19, 2011 | 2 Comments

Rita Brady was awoken from the stasis by the Nopterax, and immediately went into cardiac arrest as the atmosphere of Earth era 800,000 AD hit her lungs.  The aliens were expecting this reaction and were ready to begin the operation. Her body was retrofitted to suit the current environment and her role in the Nopterax terra-forming and colonizing operation, as a slave worker building in-roads into savage, over grown territories.  She thought she’d awoken in Hell, but from the depths of despair, out there on the wild fringes of an alien civilization and the artifacts of the world she’d lost, Apocrita finds her new identity will bring her on an adventure beyond human experience.

Exiled from her own dimension, unable to take flight- But nothing the villagers did seemed to harm her.  When the ropes simply burned away and she stepped out of the flames untouched, they finally simply lowered their swords and backed away, and she walked out on foot.  She would return, several years later, on horseback, with her army, and after that there was no more written of that village, and it’s name Forgotten.

It is generally accepted that an otherwise unknown variety of the order Arachnida commonly referred to as the Camel Spider or Wind Scorpion was imported into North America from the Persian Gulf.  What is not clearly understood is if the mutant female was bonded with the animal before or after her physical transformation, and the degree of the symbiotic relationship.

#7 Wom-Bat and Flittermouse

| November 7, 2011 | 6 Comments

The dominant theory regarding the Wom-Bat, as she came to be called-  from Woman-Bat- is that she is a human that somehow bonded with the alien, perhaps before birth, and the alien assumed control of  many of her vital functions at that time, and began the physical warping of her form.

A newer theory has been gaining traction however, which is that she is in fact an altered earth bat that the alien bonded with, whose DNA has been re-arranged by the alien to trigger the formation of a more humanoid body.

#6 Captain Wristblaster and the Psychotic Super-Brain

| November 6, 2011 | 14 Comments

The battle seemed to have gone on for as long as he could remember.  As he rose, once more, from the smoldering crater, another hole blasted out of this meteoric trash heap bulleting towards the exploding star, he wondered how many more hits like that he could take. And how much more time there was to take them.  The child, swollen large with energy, once more raised it’s fists in concentration and hatred, and the machine responded, it’s grip on the meta-blaster tightening, as the needle again sparked and smoked in anticipation of another destructive blast.

The creatures perched on the rock behind her have no teeth. They ensnare passing flyers in their jowl-tentacles, then gum them till they bleed- a long process- then suck the blood- an even longer process.

She has brought her fathers skull to the peak in the traditional death ritual.

Challenger: Mike Dubisch

It’s been said that I am from another dimension, that I have an alien brain and a god hand.  It has been privately mused that I sold my soul to the devil, and publicly agreed that I’ve made a bargain with C’thulhu.  One of the most frequently asked questions of my drawings are “Why does it look like it’s moving?”
