Hello!
Currently I am a senior Illustration major at the Savannah College of Art and Design, with the intention of doing children's book illustration. I love drawing monsters and ridiculous creatures, but I also love doing stupidly over-detailed fantasyish characters as well! (though that's more of a personal hobby at this point). It will be interesting to see how this goes with the end of the quarter and finals coming up, but hopefully I'll be able to keep up!

#14 – Young Scholar

Your shirt is too big, your pants are too short, you thumb is on the wrong side of your hand (?!), your back is killing you from being hunched over in a tiny chair for days, but that’s okay. You’re finally figuring it out.

Front interviewing the elders to digging up old lore and fairy tales, you patiently tracked the thread of truth throughout the ages, and it all led you to here. The myth of the masked ones? Totally real. Why aren’t they here anymore? Well, you’re holding in your hand the journal of a wizard from centuries ago, and in it he describes how he sealed them all in boxes of iron. You can hardly wait to tell your elders and to write it down, so everyone can know.

Unfortunately you’re killed and the whole place is set on fire before you have the chance.

(as you can probably tell, the quality of these is getting pretty laughable, but finals week is upon me and I don’t have much time to draw for me at the moment 🙁 )

#12 – A Very Dangerous Man

| November 15, 2011 | 0 Comments

The very dangerous man who has it out for the traveling merchant’s group.

For all intents and purposes he just looks like a grumpy rich guy. But he’s a grumpy rich guy with magic.

(I really need to name these people :c)

He always seems rather happy, which many find strange since he always has to carry around that giant backpack. He sells the usual small portable stuff, though the nine boxes tied to the outside of it are rather mysterious.

And he seems to have horrible luck, as the part he travels with has been singled out by a rather dangerous man who keeps attacking them for no apparent reason.

Really, you would think that if someone kept trying to kill you you’d be a bit less happy about it.

#11 – Masked One

There is little known about these wing-shrouded beings. Their purpose is unknown, as they have been known to give messages, help those in trouble, harm people seemingly at random, give advice (for either good or ruin), watch, listen, each act seemingly unconnected to the other acts before. No one knows what they look like, though it is said that to gaze upon their true form is to know true wisdom, as well as insanity.

They are known as angels, as demons or devils, masked ones, omens, myths. The few people who have tried to study them have mysteriously disappeared, those to disobey them, less mysteriously.

However, in recent years they have vanished, leaving the newest generation to think of them as myths. They are used in plays and stories as harbingers of doom, or merely to foreshadow tragedy in the future. Only the eldest still remember what it was like to have them wander the earth, and know that when they reappear, it will be a time to hide and pray.

(yay, finally caught up!)

#10 – A Girl and her Golem

| November 11, 2011 | 0 Comments

When she was but a small child, she made a doll out of mud and sticks and rocks.

Imagine her surprise when she woke up the next morning and it was a giant sentient golem. Nowadays they wander about aimlessly going on adventures and journeys and such.

And she never has to worry about being harassed ever. It’s pretty sweet.

Sometimes I get the urge to draw something that’s not ridiculous and doesn’t have noodly limbs.

So here is the token wise person who will offer cryptic advice that makes no sense until after the fact.

Helpful, no?

The only way to leave a battle scene is running with a smug smile on your face.

Sometimes it’s a drag to be the mouthpiece for a god.

The light show you can put on more than makes up for it, though.

(last one for today, I swear!)

What do you do when a rival family comes along on the most important day of your life and murders everyone you know and love?

Make a pact with the devil and go on a centuries-long killing spree of revenge? Sounds about right.

Having the powers of the sun has some advantages, you always have a bitchin’ tan and don’t have to worry about bleaching your hair, you can act as a flashlight, you always stay warm…

But there are the downsides. Bleeding the sun rather than blood might sound awesome, but it’s just a mess and everything ends up catching on fire.

#4 – Chillin’ with an Elephant

| November 4, 2011 | 0 Comments

Just a dude chilling with his elephant, as you do.

Because how else are people supposed to know how awesome you are? Having an elephant for a chair seems like a pretty good way to do that.

#3 – Gossip Demon

Because demons need their gossip, too.

She who side-eyes everyone.

“Did you see what she was wearing at the last sacrifice?  I was like, you’re what, 600? Girl, that shit ain’t cute.”

Lady Knight

Lady Knight is angry about something.

Maybe she should go on a righteous quest.

Or just go beat something up. (maybe both?)

Only two days in and I’m already behind! Geeze. I am so good at this.

Anyway!

Here is the Cave-Dwelling Cuddlebeast. He just wants to love you*.

Hello! My name is Chelsea, though I go by Subobo or Nyyrikki in other corners of the internet. I’m an Illustration major at SCAD in my senior year, so doing this on top of everything will be….interesting to say the least!

I love creating characters, either serious or ridiculous, and hopefully this will kick my creative slump into gear! (and maybe something interesting will result from this.)

Here’s my website: http://chelsealhopkins.daportfolio.com/

And my art tumblr that I need to update: clh-art.tumblr.com

Good luck to everyone, I can’t wait to see what you come up with!
