CAMARYLLIS: 30 Characters in 30 Days

| December 1, 2011 | 1 Comment

My 30 characters list! Enjoy…this took a while to compile. Pleased to be done now!

#30 The Joker

| December 1, 2011 | 0 Comments

Day 30, the Joker. Somehow, I felt like I should draw something like this at the end. I sort of combined all sorts of aesthetic qualities I like into this drawing. No description, jokers don’t need to reveal anything about themselves.

I must say I am very proud to finish this challenge from start to finish!!! Thanks everyone for all the nice comments. I definitely enjoyed this challenge 🙂

Larger size here!

#29 Mjölnir

| November 30, 2011 | 0 Comments

A young Mjölnir. Future leader of an era of eugenics. Initially a demagogue to the impoverished masses, though he ends up killing them off anyway. I couldn’t bring myself to make this his final design, because it’s not what I exactly envisioned…(his face is too soft for my taste)

#28 Oskar

| November 29, 2011 | 0 Comments

Day 28, the other November Criminal. Him and Dieter are friends, who probably have a disturbing agenda of things they’d like to do to other children in their grade….

#27 Dieter

| November 27, 2011 | 0 Comments

Day 27, Dieter, one of the two members of the November Criminals. This was an old idea that I came across while looking through old sketchbooks kept in highschool (brought upon in history class, no less). The idea was two young boys with the misconception of power, and obsession for authoritarian values and childish epicureanism. They’re like, 13.

#26 Vhars

| November 27, 2011 | 0 Comments

Day 26, Vhars, an absentminded one, yet has a deep understanding of the world of where he lives. He once had a keeper, and he hardly recalls it, but he thinks his knowledge stemmed from his experiences with this keeper. He also recalls an intense love he felt while with this keeper, but he can no longer remember who he/she was. They disappeared long ago, probably from a war of liberation.

#25: Rajiv

| November 26, 2011 | 0 Comments

Day 25, Rajiv, a friend who likes Svara’s horns.

#24: Svara

| November 24, 2011 | 0 Comments

Day 24, Svara, a boy unhappy with his newly established horns. But what can he do, really.

#23: The Young Butcher

| November 24, 2011 | 0 Comments

Day 23, the young butcher.

Creepy young guy with unknown intentions and a disturbing affection towards young boys. Don’t think he belongs in a butcher shop.

#22: Inverse

| November 22, 2011 | 1 Comment

Day 22: Inverse

I was wondering what it’d be like to have an “inverse” of yourself from birth, instead of having to locate your other half later on in life. Two wholes instead of two halves. Spending the duration of your life dedicated to finding your inverse, in order to fulfill your biggest purpose.

This design was inverted from this previous design. I’ve wanted to make an inverse of him for so long, so I finally did.

#21: The Seer

| November 21, 2011 | 1 Comment

Day 21 – The Seer

One of his eyes see other things. Despite the prophet-like properties he has, he and The Teller don’t know each other. They’re thousands of miles apart.

#20: Ge, Boss of Diamonds

| November 20, 2011 | 1 Comment

Day 20, Ge, the boss of Diamonds. The last of the Suite Mafia series. I’m thinking about keeping it just to “card gang”, because the word “mafia” is so strongly associated with conventions, and the story behind these guys really cannot follow those conventions without getting scrutinized, I think. Ge is the most deceptive one out of the four bosses. Using this to his advantage, he is also rarely seen, and the latter half of his first name is unknown.

He’s probably better than Felicia at his card games, and tricks, even. So their leisure games mostly end in one-sided arguments. Works alongside the rest of the card gang: Jack and Innes.

#19: Innes, Boss of Spades

| November 19, 2011 | 0 Comments

Day19, Innes, the boss of Spades. 3/4 in the Suite mafia. Collected middle-aged man. Had a rougher youth, but you don’t become the boss of the most powerful suite without being rough around the edges. Now that he’s mellowed out, they’re talking about replacing him….

Works alongside Felicia and Jack. The last one’ll be out tomorrow.

#18: Jack, Boss of Clubs

| November 19, 2011 | 1 Comment

Day 18, Jack, the boss of Clubs. Works alongside Felicia, as part of the Suite mafia. He likes his heels, lipstick, and a good cigarette. Kind of ran late with this one! Still going to finish up the “card gang” series in the next couple of days, I suppose. Process here.

#17: Felicia, Boss of Hearts

| November 17, 2011 | 0 Comments

Felicia, the boss of Hearts. One of the four bosses of the Suite Mafia. Enjoys a good game of poker and a few head shots every once in a while. Other than that, he’s pretty subdued.

I’m sure you all get where this reference comes from. I decided to rework some ideas swimming in my head from long ago. I also like female names for older men.

#16: The Deceased Brother

| November 17, 2011 | 1 Comment

The Deceased Brother of The Emperor. Twins at birth, but unfortunately the older of the two (this one), was born blind. Impeded by his blindness to become heir of the empire, he eventually takes his own life. It’s a pity the younger one has no desire to rule the empire his brother left behind.

I’m never painting like this again….for a character concept, this is too much.

#15: The Kind Mage

| November 16, 2011 | 0 Comments

I cannot take credit for the original idea, a trope my friend wrote as a vague description of what might be a character.

“The quiet, gentle mage who literally cannot control his dark side.” Interpret that as you will. I might have made him look less magely…more cagely…

Process shots found here.

#14: The Scornful Knight

| November 15, 2011 | 1 Comment

The Scornful Knight, whose judgment is imminent. Shallow and narrow-minded, he dislikes it when he is talked down upon, but ironically, speaks ill of others. Pathetically enough, he fears getting his real hands dirty, and always wears some gloves over his hands before he takes the lives of others, greets them, or touches them (enemies and friends alike, or those whom he dislikes). He sees this as a mercy, but really, it isn’t. Cowardly on the inside, arrogant on the outside.

My friend told me to create a character based on myself, and I took that at another value: based on my personality. I’m not trying to glorify any part of me, nor do I want this to seem like an arrogant approach to creating a character. Ultimately, this is how I feel I am like, at the core of my personality. And thus, this is why I have a series of characters belonging to the tragic kingdom…all the ugliness locked inside.

#13: The Unfortunate Peasant

| November 14, 2011 | 0 Comments

How sad it must be to never live long enough in order to finally have what you worked so hard for. How sad.

#12: The Weaver

| November 13, 2011 | 1 Comment

The weaver. He belongs in the same universe as The Teller, and The Arcaness. More details…later? I’ll probably revisit this fellow in the future..

#11: Seer and the Boy

| November 12, 2011 | 0 Comments

I have gotten lazy with my designs. I’m going to get back on track…..soon.

Young boy summoning monster…..that was the idea….

#10 Artificial Boy

| November 11, 2011 | 0 Comments

It’s still day 10 here! Made it just in time…..sorry for the sloppiness. I went through a lot of trouble for designing this one, and settled on a more sci-fi theme in the end. He doesn’t belong anywhere.

#9 Maurice

| November 10, 2011 | 4 Comments

Just wanted to draw an older looking guy, I guess. My friend named him…

#8 The Conniving Prince

| November 8, 2011 | 1 Comment

Day 8: The Conniving Prince

I seem to like the idea of royal characters being tragically disturbed or something, haha…

Progress shots posted here.

#7 256 Locks Girl

| November 7, 2011 | 0 Comments

Made the pixels from here:

ahhh this is cheesy

#6 The Arcaness

| November 6, 2011 | 1 Comment

The Arcaness, older sister to The Arcane. Her primary part in the empire is to be engaged to The Emperor, but he takes more interest in her brother. More info below.

#5 Thestre

| November 5, 2011 | 0 Comments

Dr. Thestre, from the same story as Dr. Gallant. A twisted and mentally unstable individual who seeks nothing but to incite utopian ideals into the eugenicist empire. Mostly responsible for disposal of undesirables, or errored “files”. He doesn’t particularly enjoy researching as much as he enjoys watching these files become “deleted”.

#4 The Foolish King

| November 4, 2011 | 5 Comments

A foolish king. Brash and arrogant with his decisions, he meets his end at his own hands, too disillusioned and egotistical to let anyone else take his own life. Spur-of-the-moment character, I had an image of a lion represented in a regal manner in my head, and wanted to let that out with a tragic twist. So here’s that.

#3 The Teller

| November 3, 2011 | 8 Comments

Day 3: The Teller, who basically knows a lot of good and bad things about the universe in which he resides. I wouldn’t say that he’s omniscient, but gifts from the gods are not always forgiving. The tattoo signifies his dogma, which isn’t important here. The Teller wanders the world, immune to sleep because the gods are always talking.

I posted more planning sketches/wip of this guy over here at my tumblr. And a bigger size of this file, too.

#2 Majaveiras

| November 3, 2011 | 0 Comments

Entry for day 2, I’m late on this one. Day 3 will be posted sometime later today. Majaveiras is adapted from the name Mahavira, which means “most valiant”. The name doesn’t translate well into the character, but I hope to somewhat mature the design later. His personality is exactly as his design looks, though. I wanted to at least make that apparent. It’s a little tragic…

#1 Gallant

| November 1, 2011 | 0 Comments

A little bit rough on the edges for day 1. Going to see how I start to float into a more comfortable designing shell as the days progress. Dr. Gallant is his name…he’s a pawn in the eugenics revolution. Something like that.
