I feel so accomplished!!!  This is my first attempt at the November 30 Characters challenge, and hopefully not my last.  It really made me challenge myself, forcing me to draw more.  All of these characters have their own stories and wish to soon add them into the plot.

PS – Let me know if any of the links are incorrect so I can fix them.

#30 – Horatio

Cinny’s male counterpart. There’s a high possibility he’ll also be a mascot for the art group I work for. Well, last OC from me 😀

#29 – Dr. Tanbark

| November 30, 2011 | 0 Comments

The scientist that helps with Tsuga and Saffron… I think or remember. She was created by both my friend and I. I sorta wished that I didn’t draw her with the boring lab coat and show her awesome clothes XP

#28 – Tsuga

| November 30, 2011 | 0 Comments

Another robot OC that my friend and I created. He was a hassle to make, mainly since I rarely deal with mech/robot-style art >.>

#16 – FR-045A

#29 Mehmet and Emmett

Mehmet and Emmett

Mehmet and Emmett

The first thing you need to know is, they are serious about their values. Mehmet always wears white through 50% gray. Emmett always wears 51% gray through black. The second thing is, they are always in the throes of some kind of contemporary art experience, and cannot be stopped.

Mehmet is from Istanbul and proudly calls what he does “art rock”. Influenced by musicians like David Bowie, Philip Glass, Can, and Laurie Anderson, he fuses it with traditional Turkish instrumentation, with a heavy dose of Turkish rock pioneer Ervin Koray — extending the use of Koray’s electric baÄŸlama in the contexts of experimental and electronic contexts. After failing to get money for his 9-hour song cycle on the life of Klaus Nomi, he’s agreed to accompany Emmett on his current adventure project. He makes field recordings, and is sketching the first stages of a series of compositions exploring the psychoacoustics of fear. “It’s very easy, you know, to evoke a sense of dread by merely using discordant sounds, like Hollywood always does. But eh, I think fear, it can also be beautiful, and kind of still, ok? Like there is the fear that someone is trying to kill you, and then there is the fear of the unkown, the fear of your own mortality. I do not think these fears are naturally so discordant. I am hoping to experience these fears — or maybe, Emmett can experience them and I can stand, you know, back a few paces — and come up with a new musical language to explain them.”

Emmett is from Louisville, and he’s traveling around having adventures and documenting them for his latest work. Among other things, he’s investigating UFO sightings, accompanying Real-Life Superheroes on their crime-fighing patrols, getting his P.I. license so he can solve mysteries, and shadowing insurance investigators tracking art thefts. He plans to document all of these things via a gallery installation incorporating video, machines, and performance art.  In between these assumed lives, he visits other friends of his, contemporary artists, scientists, street artists, makers, and general freaks, and gets involved in whatever it is they’re doing. He calls it “Operation Busybody” and he has a grant for it.

The first stop on Mehmet and Emmett’s next trip is to visit a Japanese artist friend who’s suspending a giant bronze bear head over an active volcano.

Below is Emmett’s artistic statement. Mehmet never misses a chance to point out how douchey it makes him sound.

“Emmett Pierce’s work explores the intersection and interplay of memory, culture, and the socially constructed nature of reality through mixed media installations, sculpture, and performance art. Through directed praxis, he interrogates the scientific shibboleth of ‘the unexplainable’, inserting himself into situations as a participant, or a kind of flaneur. By documenting his experiences, he alchemically transforms his life experience into an emergent artistic situation that forces the viewer to confront their assumptions about identity, the tyranny of existence, and the permeable boundary between danger and complacency.

His artistic practice, influenced by such diverse thinkers as Derridas, Rousseau and Buckminster Fuller, incorporates Jean Tinguely’s sculptural machines, the legacy of Fluxus, and the latest in multimedia technology to create a postmodern tableau that requires the viewer to question the undefined elements of their existence as they maneuver through the works.”

Emmett’s actually an okay guy, though. But he won’t change the damn statement.

Day 30 – Katarina the Dragon Slayer as a child

| November 30, 2011 | 0 Comments

Katarina at 9 years old

Day 29 – Twinkle

| November 29, 2011 | 0 Comments

Twinkle, an 8 year old vigilante

#27 – Ms. Saffron

| November 28, 2011 | 0 Comments

I’m actually the co-creator of this OC. My friend and I are starting to work on a new story that has scientists and robots and I’ve been wanting to create a character like her for a long time.

#26 – Cinny

| November 28, 2011 | 0 Comments

I’m really tempted to make her my art group’s mascot.

#25 – Tundra Queen

| November 28, 2011 | 0 Comments

She was born with her abilities and was born in Alaska. She also has superhuman strength.

#24 – Camo

| November 28, 2011 | 0 Comments

He’s sorta like a male limited version of Mystique with a mix of the new Ultimate Spider-Man.

Day 28 – The Wood Reeves

| November 28, 2011 | 0 Comments

Rielle the Wood Reeve

#23 – Sparrow

| November 27, 2011 | 0 Comments

I was reading some of the new Teen Titan comics and never liked the new Red Robin designs. Ironic how I based a bit of Sparrow’s costume from his. The wings can retract and expand. They’re mainly for steering. She has a tiny rocket backpack that gives her power to fly.

#22 – Marcus Apheus

| November 27, 2011 | 0 Comments

Marcus is an interesting character that I really want to use in some of my stories. He’s a WIP that I like to develop more. I might create his parents later.

#21 – Professor Luna Nocturne

| November 27, 2011 | 0 Comments

I wanted to make a non-magical Nocturne, so I chose to make #6’s mother. She still loves her husband though he passed away years ago.

#20 – Catalyst

| November 27, 2011 | 0 Comments

I think my biology homework was getting to me while I was thinking of this character. He’s practically a catalyst in human form.

Day 27 – Jessica Rabbit

| November 27, 2011 | 0 Comments

Jessica Rabbit - Not THAT one :P

#19 – Tarot

| November 27, 2011 | 0 Comments

Tarot’s powers will be explored much further.

#18 – The Dweller

| November 26, 2011 | 0 Comments

This character has been in my mind for awhile and now I’m happy that he’s finally drawn out.

#17- Rag & Tag

| November 26, 2011 | 0 Comments

Rag & Tag are just their aliases, but they’re definitely a pair that I want to further work on.

#16 – Little Stinger

| November 26, 2011 | 0 Comments

Little Stinger was though of after thinking about Wasp (Janet) from Marvel. I wanted a hero that changes his/her size, but I didn’t want another Giant. Her wings were created by her and she was given her “Stinger” guns.

#15 – Arachnid

| November 26, 2011 | 0 Comments

Ugh, this, by far, has been on of the hardest OCs to create. I’ve always been afraid of spiders, but my favorite Marvel superhero is Spider-Man. Arachnid is more of Spider-Woman with the fact that he was born with the DNA in him. I probably give him a better suit once I’m done with the challenge.

#14 – Muse

| November 26, 2011 | 0 Comments

She has the jewel on her forehead to control her powers. Without it, everything would go out of control. She has an assistant who is Character #19.

#13 – The Last Centurion

| November 26, 2011 | 0 Comments

I was thinking of Rory from Doctor Who. He’s one of my favorite companions from the show and I remember him as the centurion. From those tiny thoughts, I created this character. The Last Centurion is not immortal, though the Goddess Diana like to keep him alive. His main weapon is his sword and his outfit is a somewhat modernized version of the centurion uniform. A definite WIP.

#12 – Lost Star

| November 26, 2011 | 0 Comments

I was still listening to “Cosmic Love” while thinking of this character. Galaxy Girl needed a male counterpart, so I created her “brother.” He is an older being, but is only given a star. Lost Star tend to wander around and likes to discover new things.

#11 – Galaxy Girl

| November 26, 2011 | 0 Comments

I needed more Space-related characters and came up with her. I was watching the music video of Florence + The Machine’s “Cosmic Love” while looking at X-23 #16’s cover art and then boom. Most of the systems in her don’t have planets with life in them. She’s still a WIP.

#9 – Lady Daphne

| November 26, 2011 | 0 Comments

This is Lady Daphne, a consultant of the Society. She uses her sword only as a last resort.

Sam Medina – Day 26

2011 Day 18 a Servo from Upper City in my novel “Mentor”

2011 Day 18 a Servo from Upper City in my novel "Mentor"
2011 Day 18 a Servo from Upper City in my novel “Mentor”

Servo a small utility hover craft that responds to the voice commands of the person who has activated it. Servos can be made of components and schematics normally available at any replicator outlet if there is also sufficient bio synth available.  Components can be swapped out for other components. Servo components can also be modified through modification of the schematics, creating a new schematic. Only tech class citizens have the proper identification protocols to use a Servo, as without the necessary instruction they could be dangerous.

Servo components include laser modules that can be fine tuned by degree to range between high out put for boring holes in metal, to low out put for use as a pointing device, or a safety beacon. In the case of the safety beacon the component can be detatched from the main body of the Servo an placed where needed. It is not advised to do this however until the piece has been keyed down to low level, wide beam laser.

Another potentially dangerous component in a Servo is the sonic burst. If set too high it has the capability to rupture delicate biological parts as well as sensitive electronic equipment. Although it is rarely considered useful a microwave attachment can also be replicated for this device.

Servos can be created with varying classes of artificial Intelligence, Class A being the highest and most autonomous. Class E will follow instructions to the letter and will never make executive decisions in the circumstance where it’s owner has lost the capacity to do so, though this never occurs under the watchful eye of the MAICS.

Servos utilize standard rechargeable power packs, but have the access to othe components to pwer them. These are 1) a small extendable land line with AG 291b power connector, and 2) any number of solar collection devices (see Document LZ429006: Servo Schematics and Components).

Servos can range in size from six inches (used for comm and memory tasks) to thirty-six inches in diameter(for heavy manual labour, such as remodelling walls and hauling components and other equipment. The largest  Servos require that the operator be a Tech Class C or higher. Apprentices do not have the appropriate protocols and may not engage the use of the larger  (class E or D) servos, for their own safety and the safety of others.

Often, a high level Apprentice Tech will be given a specialised servo upon reaching  a high standard of excellence in the profession. This is usually at the descretion of the Master Tech, and is a source of healthy competition among apprentices. The servo as a prize for excellence is a valuable incentive to maintain highest standards of workmanship and safety.

See the list of Servo Schematics and Components available to the various Tech classes in Document LZ429006: Servo Schematics and Components.

2011 Day 17 Bracha of Lower City from my Novel “Mentor”

2011 Day 17 Bracha of Lower City from my Novel "Mentor"
Bracha

Mentor: A science fantasy adventure, by J S Rowe

Bracha, cook and herbalist for the tribe had been cooking slither since before Tarou’s father was born.

In a small tribe like that of the people of Under City, it helps for everyone to know the rudiments of most of the tasks, and to be able to excel at more than one. Bracha was the head cook and herbalist, but he was also a great hunter, or was so in his prime. He took great pride in his hunting accomplishments, and told and retold storied of his own prowess  with great relish, but his greatest pride was in his cooking. He himself had learned at the chopping slab of R’eshka of the one thumb, who had passed to the gods finally only a few years ago. He missed her. She had been a daunting tutor, but because of that he had never  yet, as he liked to joke, poisoned anyone and had even made things like Slither meat palatable. And the breads he conjured from the flour of local seeds couldn’t be improved upon.

He always had a gaggle of children helping him out and learning the ways of herbs and their uses in cooking and healing, though a number of them were often just in the way and under foot. But he was used to it, and welcomed all comers. Just make sure those inconsiderate hunters  are careful where they drop the carcasses. That was all he asked. This was always said with a smile too. For as much as he loved to teach and to cook he loved to tell funny stories and  share a good belly laugh.
