#18- Uli the Woolly, a barbarian

| November 19, 2011 | 0 Comments

Uli’s a nice guy. That is, if you keep your bear jokes home.

#17- Maggie Mischief

| November 17, 2011 | 0 Comments

Maggie Mischief is what her doting parents call young Margaret. Her neighbours call her a pest.

#16- Butch McClusky

| November 16, 2011 | 0 Comments

Forget all you read in History books: Butch McClusky was THE first man in space. But you haven’t heard of him because NASA lost contact with him after his ship got caught in an unexpected comet’s gravity. He’s been lost for 60 years now, and he will return in some 20 years, having aged only 20 years, riding the same old tincan spacecraft he left Earth with, and thinking himself a hero.

Things will have changed quite a lot, though: when he boasts being the original inspiration for Flash Gordon, kids just won’t know what he’s talking about, and his tech skills will be totally outdated and useless. He will, however, receive compensation from the government, and spend his time telling his old- timer stories to anyone willing to hear and hitting on girls half his age.

And no, he hasn’t changed clothes in the last 80 years. Go figure.

#15- Boris, the henchman

| November 14, 2011 | 0 Comments

Ah, the good old days… Back when his master would send him on interesting errands like stealing corpses and burning houses, Boris was a happy henchman. And he did it for science, no less!

But the no-good townsfolk didn’t seem to appreciate their research, and killed Master. Now Boris is unemployed and lonely, and doesn’t know how to spend his time productively.

#12- The King of Carrot Flowers

| November 12, 2011 | 0 Comments

From Neutral Milk Hotel’s song of the same title:

When you were young
You were the king of carrot flowers
And how you built a tower tumbling through the trees
In holy rattlesnakes that fell all around your feet

And your mom would stick a fork right into daddy’s shoulder
And dad would throw the garbage all across the floor
As we would lay and learn what each other’s bodies were for

And this is the room
One afternoon I knew I could love you
And from above you how I sank into your soul
Into that secret place where no one dares to go

And your mom would drink until she was no longer speaking
And dad would dream of all the different ways to die
Each one a little more than he could dare to try

#11- Angus the bird

| November 11, 2011 | 0 Comments

Angus is a bird with a bad, bad temper. He’s the owner of the Animal Bike Gang’s favourite dive.

#10- Pete the bespectacled dog

| November 10, 2011 | 0 Comments

Ever since he started wearing glasses, the Animal Bike Gang don’t want Pete to get hurt, so they took his bike away. That doesn’t keep him from running alongside them all, though!

#9- Rufus Lamonte

| November 9, 2011 | 0 Comments

Young Rufus is an atonal rocker from Idaho. He’s not that well known, but he’s sure he’ll have Pitchfork begging him for interviews next year. His mum is pretty sure of that, too.

#8- Gretchen the soloist

| November 8, 2011 | 0 Comments

Gretchen used to be a cellist in the National Orchestra of the German Democratic Republic. One day, her fiancé got arrested by the Stasi, never to come back. She knew what had happened in the interrogation room, and took to pulling the strings on some high-ranked officers.

After her revenge, she had to escape to the U.S. Knowing she would never be able to walk onstage again, she took up a new job where she could employ her newly acquired abilities with the strings.

#7- Wilhelm the cockatrice and Willy the weasel

| November 7, 2011 | 2 Comments

Wilhelm is a friendly guy. Too bad he’s a cockatrice and turns everything he looks at into stone. So far, only Willy the weasel has been immune to his stare, and kind enough to get him special sunglasses so he can have a normal (ish) social life.

#6- Patxi the poet

| November 6, 2011 | 0 Comments

Patxi comes from the roughest areas of the Basque Contry. His has always been a violent life of crime, and because he started being a regular guest of correctional facilities at eight, he just couldn’t develop a taste for the finer things in life.

All this changed, however, on his last stint in prison, where he was assigned to the library. In the long, lonely hours, he discovered Jane Austen, Walt Whitman, Aresti and de Otero. Now his life has changed. He would like to become a writer of some sort, and considers crime “jus a day job” to help meet ends while he hones his craft.

#5- Moe the chib

| November 5, 2011 | 0 Comments

An avid fan of 70’s blaxploitation films, Jean- Luc Godard and Jean Genet, Moe likes to think of himself as something of a sophisticated thug. He’s the suave counterpart to Salvatore’s recklessness, but just as cruel.

#3- Orville

| November 3, 2011 | 0 Comments

Forget disc brakes and front wheel suspension: Orville is an old-timer in the Animal Bike Gang, and his trusty Dora (which he bought some 130 years ago) is just fine with him.

A true gentleman, he believes in fair competition and only big- mouthed hares can get at his nerves.

#2- Mole Mitch

| November 2, 2011 | 0 Comments

Mitch is a tough guy. He likes riding down rocky slopes, and doesn’t mind the accidents. Which is fine, because being a mole he’s pretty prone to bumping into stuff.

#1- “Piggy boy” Salvatore

| November 1, 2011 | 8 Comments

Salvatore was always a big eater. At 12, he also turned into a killer for hire for the mob. That’s all there is to know about him. That, and that you should never order the special steak in his restaurant.

EDIT: Seems I put a HUGE file in here, so some of you couldn’t see the image. Sorry! Hope I got it right this time.

2011 Challenger: Carlos Cuesta Dolz

| October 19, 2011 | 2 Comments

Hey there! I’m Carlos Cuesta, a comic artist and illustrator from Valencia, Spain. My main webcomic is Odiolitos (in Spanish, mind…), which stars my two cats Musi and Nina and myself. I have been meaning to enter 30 characters for a couple years, but never got the confidence to go for it, so I’m really excited to get started this year.

I’m a huge fan of drawing animals, so you can expect plenty of animal- based designs from me. I’m also thinking of organizing my characters into groups to make things easier in case I run out of ideas.Â
