Day #2: Toby Freeman

| November 2, 2011 | 0 Comments

To understand Toby Freeman, you have to understand his father: Demon Freeman.

Yes… that Demon Freeman. The Duke of Danger. The Prince of Peril. The Titan of the Open Sky. By the time Toby was born, Demon was already the greatest daredevil this world had ever known. Toby was a shy child, the polar opposite of his larger-than-life father.

Now, don’t get me wrong. Demon tried to be a good dad. He would show up for Toby’s academic superbowl tournaments, but he’d sit in the audience, antsy, twitching, thinking about his next network special. At Toby’s birthday parties, all the kids would line up to for Demon’s autograph, leaving Toby stranded, sitting along in the bounce castle. When Toby was 16, he went on his first date, with a girl from his math club. She picked her up at her grandmother’s house, in his beat-up Ford Escort. Two blocks from the house, she put one hand on his thigh, leaned across the seat and whispered, “why don’t you drive a little faster, daredevil?” They didn’t have a second date.

Most kids who grew up in their father’s shadow would rebel, desperate to set themselves apart, to blaze their own trail. Instead, Toby faded even further into the background.

In college Toby majored in accounting. His sophomore year, Demon died — not from a fiery crash or a horrible fall, but from an aneurysm at the base of his brain. Toby took a week off from school. He stayed in his apartment, watching old videos of his dad. And then he went back to class.

After college, Toby found a job as a bookkeeper at a prosthetics factory. He excelled at the work, but never sought advancement, never looked for anything better, more lucrative, more prestigious.

And so it went. He lived a cautious, conservative life. He joined the Kiwanis club, and then fell away from it. He took up knitting, and was great at it. He took up gardening, and was lousy at it. He found a wife, and they had a son named Toby, Jr.

Junior took after his father. He was quiet. Studious. Shy. And then one day, not long after Junior’s 14th birthday, Toby was scrolling through his Facebook page, when he saw the words “Toby Freeman, Jr. was tagged in a video.”

Even after Toby clicked on it, it took him a few minutes to comprehend what he was seeing. Junior and his friends had set up a small, wooden ramp, and were taking turns jumping a moped over a small dog house. Toby was furious. How could his son be so stupid? And then he noticed the look on Junior’s face. Simultaneously happy and free and afraid.

And then Toby felt something else. A pleasant but unfamiliar emotion.

After a few seconds, he realized it was pride.

Day 2: The Phantom Thrasher

| November 2, 2011 | 3 Comments

The Phantom Thrasher

William Shannon was once a famous extreme skater during the 90’s. In 1994 he set to break the record on most revolutions done on a skateboard. He was going to accomplish this by skating off the tallest building with a parachute. Halfway down he was spinning at an uncontrollable rate in which he ripped through to another dimension.

16 years later he found his way back home, ripping and grinding through parallel dimensions. His body’s molecular structure has mutated to handle the stresses of dimensional travel. Now he is back with his 90’s swagger and it also appears that he has only aged about 3 years since his return.

Day 2: Ranie Dobson

| November 2, 2011 | 0 Comments

A woman sitting on the ground. She has a large spiral hat on, and slightly mismatched clothing.

This is Ranie Dobson. She’s a witch like Thusela, although not in training. As a child, she was a prodigy, specifically in food-related magic, and has since opened a bakery in the heart of the land of Floom.

#2 Gort

“In the court of the goblin king lives seven lords who love to sing…” – a bard’s song

Lord Gort is one of seven goblin lords in the Goblin courts. He is also the one who provoked Lord Sk’Flaggen into challenging the Lady Winter. Lord Gort is also the champion of Goblin wrestling and proudly wears his champion belt at all times. Most goblins are known for their greed, ingenuity and pride; Gort is no exception.

“I can still hear Sk’Flaggen screaming m’twigs-n-berries.” comments Gort with a chuckle as they reflect on Sk’flaggen’s fight against the Lady Winter.

Anyways! Day 2!

All that I’ve thought up about her is that she is a club singer with a gorgeous voice.

#2 Matt Paul Vaillancourt

| November 2, 2011 | 1 Comment

Matt’s based off of my very first car, a powder blue Mazda MPV with busted shocks in the rear and a very responsive steering system.  It used to hold all of my portfolio work for school. I loved that van.

Matt was a very angry poltergeist that haunted Chevelle’s library that she called the two old hunters to take care of.  The library was just built over the bank Matt was burned alive in and the disturbance woke him up.  In his confusion he’d end up lighting things on fire trying to return his resting place to the way it was.

Chev was able to snap him out of it after finding his full name,  dousing him in fire extinguisher foam and chewing him out for nearly destroying the new library.

Matt now spends his unlife hanging around the library helping where he can and trying his best to keep his more destructive capabilities under control.  Chev always has a fire extinguisher handy just in case.

Some days the patrons swear they see a man in a baby blue vest dancing through the Non-Fiction section humming Petula Clark.

Day 2 – Rapheal

| November 2, 2011 | 0 Comments

You’re average thief under neither the disguise of being your traveling artist. Through his travels he finds his brother now in change of one of the very armies that goes against him and his family of thieves.

Woopwoop All my pictures are coming out horrible so far. Oh well.

#2 – Warlord Madurk

| November 2, 2011 | 0 Comments

Warlord Madurk is a new character who will soon appear in Dungeon Legacy, my webcomic.  His history is a bit of a spolier at this point, but it is clear he will be a powerful enemy if the party chooses to side against him.  What is his true goal?  You’ll have to read the comic to find out.

#2 FREON The Snowclops

| November 2, 2011 | 8 Comments

A character that came to me during the crazy October snow storm we had on the east coast this past week. I could easily see FREON the Snowclops becoming a Z-Girl and the 4 Tigers villain.

#2 Yolanda Veracruz

#2 Yolanda Veracruz

Yolanda Veracruz:

American born from Colombian parents and a devoted Catholic, Yolanda lived a rather humble childhood in Doraville, Georgia.

At first, had plans of studying Business at College, but due to financial limitations, she barely graduated from high school and eventually was forced to work retail to make ends meet and to sustain a daughter she had from one random night out. Despite of all these dificulties, she made the best out of it and excelled as a salesperson, eventually becoming the regional manager for Interport Internet Phone Services.

Nowadays, she’s content with her current position and always optimistic despite of economic fluctuations, as she’s doing all this to help her daughter gain a future of her own.

#2 Babyface Clem

| November 2, 2011 | 0 Comments

They say that her pants are made from real rattlers that she eats for breakfast. They say that one dirty look from her can turn a man to stone. They say she was born by wolves, then raised by cougars after they murdered those wolves. One rumor is true about Clementine, and that is that she can’t die– at least, not by anything other than a stake anyway. An incredibly selfish vampire; Clem is rude, crude, and out to kill anyone that gets in the way of amassing her vast fortune. The victims of her various train-robbing, cattle rustling, and all around thievery have come to fear her name far and wide in the ol’ west; even if the majority of them think this little girl is really a fearsome burly man. Trust me when I say that you don’t want to mess with Clem… Unless you have a big robbery to pull off, that is.

Day #2: Ignatius

| November 2, 2011 | 3 Comments

A seraph who ran away from heaven. He likes the color red and has made it his life’s duty to become it.

Doesn’t realize that it is illogical to “become” a color.
He’ll try anyways and nobody can stop him.

#2 Duke Benedictus Rothroger III

| November 2, 2011 | 2 Comments

Duke Benedictus Rothroger III comes from a long line of royal Triceratops.  Cross him and you’ll get a swift horn up the ass, but get on his good side and he may just right you a sonnet.

Day 02 – Grizelda Vedette

| November 2, 2011 | 0 Comments

Grizelda Vedette as born into a upper/middle-class family well known for their super-natural genetic line. In her world, it is uncommon to come across a person who doesn’t have some form of “super powers”. Grizelda began developing and training her powers since they first began to appear at the age of 5. By the age of 18 her list of abilities includes powers such as being bullet proof, super speed (her personal favorite of her abilities), and energy manipulation (including but not limited to blasts and fields). She prefers to wear tights to keep her form streamline when she runs and purple just because it is her favorite color. Her mask appears to make her eyes glow as a side effect of the technology that allows her to see farther and better when moving at mach speeds. Even when her mask is off, her eyes appear white. In actuallity, they have developed an extra thick cornea which allows her to run at high speeds even without her protective mask. When Grizelda first figured out she had super speed she went out for a run one night and stumbled upon a young demon boy about to be sacrificed by an unknown cult. Releasing the boy out of pity, she thought nothing of the event until it came back to haunt her 10 years later in the form of the demon Maximus.

#2-Brad The Misunderstood Head Monster

And day 02’s character is this adorable little head monster named Brad. He has no friends because he’s awkward, and just wants to party with someone.

#2 Geek #1

| November 2, 2011 | 0 Comments

My second character design, done in 30 minutes (my goal for each of these).  Also my first attempt to draw something in Sketchbook Pro.  Fun little program, going to experiment with it more.

Throughout this challenge I’m going to try and design some ‘extras’ for my comic strip, ‘The Principal is an Alien‘.

#2 Paradox

| November 2, 2011 | 0 Comments

How far would you go to save yourself, Tyrell found that his great grandfather was to be executed for time crimes. His grandfather had abused the power of time travel and got noticed by the time cops. Tyrell was a time cop himself, but when he found out his own existence was at stake, he gave up the force. And spent time protecting himself. This has lead him to murder 27 time cops so far, and he won’t stop till he is safe.

#2: Sophie

| November 2, 2011 | 1 Comment

After losing her home to a forest fire, Sophie became deathly afraid of losing her possessions. She decided it would be safest to just keep them all with her. However, having all of your worldly possessions on your back can be quite the hassle- especially when you’re a tortoise and your average speed is a whopping 0.17 mph when unburdened.

#2 The Warrior

| November 2, 2011 | 0 Comments

The warrior is a tribes-woman who chose to defend the tech-nomad tribe. Because they rarely, if ever have enemies in their empty world, she usually acts as a scout, or as a hunter-gatherer with a group of others. However, she maintains strict training regimens to keep herself in a good physical form, and studies sacred tactics transcribed from the net by a shaman. Her and the other warriors of the tribe are looked at as relative outsiders due to their ascetic ways. However this is easily overlooked in the name of good relations, as the tribe is too small to risk a schism.

The main threat to the tribe’s safety are derelict, rampant nano-technological constructs, or “artificial nature” in search of the tech-nomads’ precious materials. In the case of an attack, the warriors rely on an effective semi-autonomous combat doctrine, as communication are difficult at best with their limited means. Depending on the scale of the threat, as the rampant mechs can range in size from only a few centimetres to several stories tall, the group will either collaborate to de-service the mech or to distract it and leave it vulnerable to the shaman’s intervention. The warriors are armed with a variety of makeshift and scavenged firearms and improvised explosives, but are not capable of sustained battle. Fortunately for them, they have rarely faced heavy offensives.

I am not quite as proud of this one. The colors seem off, to me. No3 shall be better, then!

#1 – Zagam

| November 2, 2011 | 0 Comments

Zagam is a demon of deceit and frequent gambler in The Game (sort of a horse race where demons bet on human souls for sport).  He is well known for being a liar, thought it’s assumed that it is impossible to cheat in the Game.  The truth is, he’s been rigging the game for centuries.  For him, the Game is not sport.  It’s his way out of the Void (the place where all demons originate).

Day # 2 Nikki Tacchetta

| November 2, 2011 | 0 Comments

Day 2- Nikki Tacchetta is a cop. She’s good at what she does but it doesn’t make her a good cop. Nikki was born and raised by a family where the criminal element was not only the norm but encouraged. Which is why she’s such a good cop. She knows the ins and outs of the shady side and she isn’t above using shady means to meet her ends. The family was not entirely opposed to the career choice mostly because they operate outside of Nikki’s jurisdiction. She hasn’t shown any signs of working with them nor does help bring them down.

#2 – Klaus

Character #2

Character #2: Klaus!

Age: 25

I was going to give Klaus a cute short story like I did with Bell, but I have a ballsasslot (haha wut) of homework tonight, so just go introduce yourself to your snowboarder neighbor, chances are that they’re a lot alike. I gave him the black eye before I realized I wouldn’t have time to write him a story, I believe in your imagination though, I’m sure you can come up with something!

It’s been snowing  a lot lately here in Fort Collins. I love Foco, but It’s my dream to live in a small mountain town in Colorado, preferably Breckenridge. Snowstorms are a double edged sword for me this year; I absolutely love them, and they make me happier than any other kind of weather, but it reminds me that for the first time in years I’m not going to be snowboarding at all this winter, due to lack of funds, time, etc. *cue tiny violin* And so, with a heavy heart, she drew a beautiful snowboarder boy, based on her plethora of shredder friends that probably don’t realize his name is pronounced Kl-oww-s, not Clause.

(Oh yeah, I did this today during class and work, all in shitty pen <3 and without any references. Freehand, bitches. And then my scanner barfed all over the left side of it, thanks pall)

Day 2: The Juryman

| November 2, 2011 | 0 Comments

THE JURYMAN is a masked crimefighter who has no super powers, and unlike many others before him, no access to limitless wealth to fund a war on crime.  The Juryman is based in Anacostia, DC and discovered the lair of the previous Juryman while being chased into Fort Stanton Park by hoodlums.  Collin Jackson was raised in this area, and after graduating college with a double major in engineering and physics, returned to that area to try and improve conditions.  He does this by day working at a construction firm, and by night as a costumed hero.  And doing so by scrounging to keep and maintain the gagetry the original Juryman left behind…
