I have been out of college for two years but have been lucky enough to achieve so much in that time. I am currently hard at work on my first comic project as well as teaching English in Japan. I am a writer and, if I may be completely honest, can draw little more than stick figures. Still, I will put forth my best effort to stick to the 30 in 30 days timeline. I wish everyone else the best of luck.

Final Thoughts

| November 30, 2011 | 0 Comments

Well, considering I am not an artist and I was basically learning to draw all over again as I did this, I had a blast. It was a great way to get the creative juices flowing. I would make characters and then see connections that I didn’t before. Originally, my Super Steel Warriors were four characters completely independent of one another. However, when I looked at them on the list (because I wrote the ideas out in my notebook), I thought they’d work well together. I like that aspect of this challenge. It can get the juices flowing and give ideas you didn’t even know you were thinking about.

I’m planning on using some of these characters later on (some sooner than others), but I hope to get use out of all of them. The last two I made just came to me as I was sitting at school (which has the name Samurai in it). I was joking with the music teacher and was sketching and started out with a disembodied head. Then it turned into a ghost. Then next to her was a guy. Then he became a werewolf. Then he became a samurai werewolf. I was really excited by that. I had been wracking my brain for the last characters and it just came from nothing. Magical.

I really enjoyed doing this and seeing all of the amazing, unique ideas people brought to the table. I’m looking forward to next November when I can try again.

Later Days

No. 29 & 30- Samurai Werewolf and Ghost Witch

| November 30, 2011 | 0 Comments

Short Background: A young arrogant samurai came across an unattractive old woman who asked for his help. She claimed that she was robbed by ninjas and needed his assistance, he ignored her pleas for help. Instead, he mocked her dirty clothes and compared her face to that of a dog’s. Unfortunately, the old woman turned out to be a witch. As punishment for his arrogance, she cursed him to walk the roads with wolf-like features. She sent him off on a quest to retrieve what was stolen from her with the promise of restoring him.

Several years went by and after fighting several ninjas, a pair of twin warlocks, and a three headed dragon, the arrogant young warrior returned a humble yet battle hardened samurai. However, it turned out that in his absence, the witch was killed by assassin’s sent by a rival witch. Now, with the help of the witch’s spirit, the furry warrior must complete one more quest. He has to find the rival witch, kill her, and retrieve several of the witch’s scroll in order to reverse the curse.

It looks like he may have another long road ahead of him.

No. 28- The Most Gangsta Elf and his Crew

| November 30, 2011 | 0 Comments

Name: Gangster T. Elf

Occupation: Gangster Elf

Short Background:
G.T. Elf spends most of his time  defending the forest from haters and squares. Over time, he managed to accumulate a crew of misfits and outcasts. With them by his side, he acts as a ghetto Robin Hood. Chumps be warned, this Elf is packin’ more than cookies.

No. 27- The Insecurity Guard

| November 29, 2011 | 0 Comments

Name: The Insecurity Guard

Actual Name: Unknown

Age: 30s

Occupation: Instigator, Security Guard?

Short Background:
He’s dressed like a security guard, but his job is to breed insecurity in malls across the country. He is never at the same mall more than twice (which is more than enough time to sew distrust and fear). Some people say he’s an old black man, other say he is a young Asian man with a southern accent. One thing is for sure, he is not using his power for good or evil. He is just being an asshole.

The idea popped into my head, but there wasn’t much about it except the description above. I might flesh it out.

No. 25- The Deafening Silence

| November 29, 2011 | 0 Comments

Name: The Deafening Silence

Actual Name: Unknown

Age: Unknown (assumed to be in his 20s)

Ethnicity: Unknown

Occupation: Supervillain

Short Background:
The name “the Deafening Silence” is kind of a half truth. People often assume that it means that he is deaf, but he isn’t. He’s mute. This makes him a much better villain than his peers because he never monologues. The name also refers to his ability to mute the sound around him for a distance. It is unknown how far he can stretch this barrier, but some researchers wonder if he is holding back. While he is a competent villain, he is often confused with heroes like Mr. Bat and Knight Moon. Depending on his mood, he may help people when asked or he may rob them.

He is very good at pantomiming which makes him an amazing partner at Charades. He is also very quick at writing notes and keeps a notepad around just in case.

Design:
Looks like a nocturnal hero, but isn’t. Wears black, gray, and white.

No. 26- The Glutton

| November 29, 2011 | 0 Comments

Name: The Glutton

Actual Name: Stacey Michaels

Age: 39

Occupation: Unemployed/ Former Supervillain

Short Background:
Once upon a time, Stacey was a member of one of the most feared Supervillain Groups, “The Seven Sins”. He lived like a rock star and was on the front page of many newspapers. As the Glutton, Stacey is on top of the world.

Then the group disbanded.

Now, Stacey spends his days living off of his mother. However, when two of his old teammates want to recruit him for one last job, he hopes that it will bring back all of the fame he once had.

Despite being called “The Glutton”, Stacey is actually quite healthy. People assume that he will be a morbidly obese man, but his name is more related to his powers rather than his physical condition.

Stacey was born with the ability to drain the life from other people. At full power, he could kill a room full of people in seconds, but he tries to keep it low. Because of this, Stacey rarely needs to eat or sleep. He uses his power in order to do important things like play WoW and work on his autobiography (though he is only in the first chapter).

From Stacey’s point of view, you can only go up when you’re already at the bottom of the barrel.

If only he knew.

No. 24- November Rayne: Private Investigator

| November 27, 2011 | 0 Comments

Name: November Rayne (seriously)

Age: 30

Ethnicity: Caucasian

Occupation: Private Investigator/ Ass-Kicker

Short Background:
Life is tough for a P.I. Especially when you have a similar name to a popular adult actress. Just one of the many problems November faced as she tried to make her way through the seedy underworld of Olympia Hills. She’s multilingual, she speaks “money” and “justice”. She has few friends in this world. The closest two are her .45 and Jeff, the blind saxophonist who doubles as her informant. It’s a tough game, but November doesn’t worry because she knows how to play. In the city of Olympia Hills, nothing is colder than sweet November Rayne.

No. 23- Rena Yamamoto

| November 27, 2011 | 0 Comments

Name: Rena Yamamoto

Age: 22

Ethnicity: Japanese-American

Occupation: Teacher/ Novelist

Short Background:
Since she was a little girl, Rena has always wanted to see the city where her parents grew up in Japan. The fact that they never really spoke about it only seemed to strengthen her resolve to see it. When she found out that there was a program for teaching English in the very city, she jumped at the chance. She applied without even letting her parents know until it was too late.

Now, she is miles away from home and seeing everything her parents kept from her. She is excited about learning more about her culture and for once not standing out like a sore thumb. She hopes that perhaps she can write a book about the experience, but will she feel the same way if she finds out the real reason her parents left?

No. 22- Ben Willis

| November 27, 2011 | 0 Comments

Name: Ben Willis

Age: 22

Ethnicity: African-American

Occupation: Teacher/Aspiring Rapper

Short Background:
Ben never really planned on teaching abroad, much less traveling in general. All he really wanted to do was hang out with his friends, work on mixtapes, and graduate college. However, when life throws him a curve ball, he is given the opportunity to set his life straight. Now he’s miles away from home in a place he doesn’t necessarily want to be, surrounded by people he doesn’t know. Only time will tell if he ends up doing well or burning out.

No. 20 & 21- Mighty White & Whiteout

| November 26, 2011 | 0 Comments

Couldn't get hold of a scanner so I switched to low quality camera shots!

Names: Mighty White and Whiteout

Actual Names: (Mighty White) Samuel Murphy, (Whiteout) Stan Murphy

Ages: (Mighty White) 72, (Whiteout) 22

Occupations: (Mighty White) Former Superhero, (Whiteout) Mercenary/Assassin/ Vigilante

Short Background:
For a time, there were very few superheroes in Birmingham during the Civil Rights Movement. Most heroes stayed on the north side of the Mason-Dixon line or moved north to avoid getting entangled in politics. Only one hero stayed in the South, and that hero was Mighty White. Samuel Murphy gained powers after being exposed to a strange aircraft. He soon found himself with the strength of one hundred men and the ability to fly. He decided to use his powers for the good of all mankind.

His father, a member of the KKK, figured that it would be best to use his son as the face of Jim Crow. He convinced his son that a law can’t be wrong and that it was his job to enforce them. Genuinely believing this, Sam set out to do his part in maintaining the status quo.

But then, things changed. The world suddenly became a different place and Sam found himself on the losing side of the battle. Many heroes finally had enough and came to support the Civil Rights Movement. Eventually, integration was allowed and became the new status quo.
Because history is written by the winners, Sam was vilified and heavily criticized by heroes and citizens alike. Confused and disillusioned, he vanished from the public eye and was never seen again.

He eventually grew into an angry bitter old man filled with resentment towards a world that didn’t understand what he had been trying to do. His anger was passed down to his son and then finally to his grandson, Stanley.
Stanley spent his entire life being taught that the world was already against him and that there was no such thing as real heroes. Because of this, he dedicated his life to training and became a mercenary to finance his ultimate goal. To set the scales right and return the status quo.

No. 16 – 19: The Super Steel Action Warriors

| November 22, 2011 | 0 Comments

I was trying to make an epic shot of them all posing but realized how bad that would be. Also, Squeaky always comes out looking all jacked up.

Group Name: The Super Steel Action Warriors

Alias: Hybrid Thesis

Short Background:
No one could have predicted the amounts of success that the hip-rock band Hybrid Thesis would generate in a few short years. While nowhere near the levels of most musicians, they have certainly etched out a place for themselves. Another thing people would probably be surprised by is the fact that the band plays second fiddle to the groups real calling, killing the legions of monsters unleashed by the evil Lord Destruction-Anderson. No matter where they are, they are ready and willing to call upon the spirits of the long dead Steel Squadron and transform into the Super Steel Action Warriors. And should things prove to be too much, their Ultra-Mega-Super Mechs are always ready for a fight.

Individual Characters:

Will Stevenson- As the leader of both the band and the Action Warriors, Will is steadfast and dependable. However, he is also very insecure. While he doesn’t say so, Gray’s rising popularity makes him worry that he will soon be relegated to second fiddle in both groups. To ensure that doesn’t happen, he is now pushing himself twice as hard to stay top dog.

Will plays guitar and provides the lead vocals. He is the Red Warrior and pilots the Kodiak Mech.

Simon “Squeaky” Fox- The youngest member of the band. He is constantly underestimated by the others, but is loyal to a fault. He looks up to them and is constantly looking for ways to get better. He is a bit of a nerd and spends a lot of his time trying to make new gadgets for the team. He’s kind of like Alpha 5, but not as annoying and much more useful. Due to his young age, he is constantly watched over by his older twin sisters. If they only knew what he was capable of.

Simon plays bass. He is the Off-White Warrior and pilots the Gorilla Mech

Gray Wolf- The girl of the group. Originally created in a lab by geneticists, Gray escaped with her “sister” Timber. They lived like nomads until one day, Gray found the Action Warrior Medallion in a pile of trash while dumpster diving. Since then, her life has gone one hundred and eighty degrees. She has become the drummer of the band and is gaining her own fan base. Despite people’s sudden interest in her, she doesn’t really want the spotlight and would much rather stay in the background.

Gray is the drummer. She is the Silver Warrior and pilots the Wolf Mech.

Thaddeus Hightower- Thaddeus was once nothing more than a one-hit wonder rapper living off of the royalties of his single hit. Suddenly after buying the Action Warrior Medallion from an old homeless man, he found himself a member of an elite team of fighters protecting the world. By an unlikely coincidence, all of them were musically adept. Skip ahead a few years later and their band “Hybrid Thesis” is slowly taking the charts by storm. Thaddeus is more interested in the band and less so with the heroics. He wants to do the right thing, but doesn’t want to miss out on his second chance at success. Only time will tell if he can juggle both fame and the responsibility of being one of Neo York’s last lines of defence.

Thaddeus is the rapper. He is the Purple Warrior and pilots the Rook Mech.

No. 15- The Neighborhood Watchman

| November 15, 2011 | 1 Comment

Name: The Neighborhood Watchman

Actual Name: Unknown (Only because no one cares)

Age: Late 20s – Early 30s

Occupation: Vigilante

Short Background:
Much like the Disciplinarian, little is known about this  masked vigilante. However, while the Disciplinarian is viewed as a legitimate threat, TNW is seen as more of a pain. He has no powers, no tech, and nothing to make him stand out in a city filled with heroes. In fact, most heroes view him as a joke and a burden. No matter what problem arises, it is almost certain he will be there and will most likely need saving.

Despite failure and repeated warning from actual heroes, he continues his quest to bring peace to the city. You’d have to admire his determination but you’d also have to see that it will probably be his undoing.

Design:
He is very much a DIY hero. His costume is pretty much thrown together from whatever he had on hand at the time. He only has a small amount of gadgets. All in all, he doesn’t look like he’d survive long in the world of heroes and that it is probably sheer luck that he has.

No. 14- The Disciplinarian

| November 14, 2011 | 0 Comments

Name: The Disciplinarian

Real Name: Unknown

Age: Unknown

Ethnicity: Unknown

Occupation: Vigilante and Mercenary

Short Background:
Little is known about the Disciplinarian. All that is known is that he has a code of ethics and is willing to discipline those who cannot follow  them, no matter which side they are on. Hero and villain alike can be sure that if they stray far from what he thinks they should be doing, they will receive more than a simple rap on the knuckles.

Design:
Wears a skull mask, a dress shirt, slacks, and suspenders. Dresses like a teacher. Carries a ruler at all times.

No. 13- Sean “The Mechanic” Marion

| November 13, 2011 | 0 Comments

Name: Sean ‘The Mechanic’ Marion

Age: 25

Ethnicity: Causcasian

Occupation: Supervillain

Short Background:
Sean Marion never was a top villain. In fact, he was just above a D-list villain and the only thing impressive about him were the people he had been beaten by. When his last bank robbery fails, Sean finds himself evicted from his apartment and forced to live with his worst enemy.

His mother.

He has the power to manipulate different types of machinery. With enough focus and drive, he could be a serious contender, but his tendency to slack off has sealed his fate at the bottom of the barrel.

Design:
Jumpsuits, Goggles, and Boots.

No. 12- Drea

| November 12, 2011 | 0 Comments

Name: Drea

Age: 100 years old (in dragon years)

Ethnicity: Dragon turned human?

Occupation: Guard Dragon, Bodyguard, Adventurer, Mercenary

Short Background:
Drea started out life as a dragon. She lived with her dragon family, played dragon games, and laughed the dragon’s laugh (if there is such a thing).

Then her entire clan was butchered and she was the only one who managed to escape. As luck would have it, her path led her to the castle of a powerful sorceress who offered her protection and a place to stay. The catch was that Drea had to be a guard against anyone who came to take the sorceress’ secrets. For a time, things worked out and Drea was the perfect guard. It also helped to add to the sorceress’ reputation. So much so that many kings and lords saw it as a wise move to align themselves with the sorceress. Many came as suitors, hoping that by winning her heart, they would also gain access to her power.

And there was where the trouble began.

Drea was too good of a body guard and ended up devouring many a suitor. It got to the point where the sorceress had to decide what to do. However, she didn’t want to kill Drea and decided to turn her into a human instead. No longer thirsty for blood, but still incredibly strong, Drea became the sorceress’ personal bodyguard. It was thought that the problems would end there.

They didn’t.

As a human, Drea went from being a danger to the suitors to a distraction. Suddenly, the men were coming to woo her instead of the sorceress. Jealous, the sorceress tried to turn her back. Drea escaped.

Now, she is traveling the world among people that used to fear her. She decided that the best way to see more of the world was to fall in with a band of mercenaries. And that’s what she did.

Design:
She looks like an average girl. She isn’t doesn’t really look that different from everyone else with the exception of the blue hair (but no one really questions it). The only giveaway is a trail of scales going down her back, though a person would have to get really close to see them (and that is not happening).

She is a mercenary so she dresses like a mercenary. No dresses or fancy clothing. Just practical “soldier of fortune” wear. Boots, pants, tight shirts, and headbands. Lots of headbands.

No. 11- Clay Talbot

| November 11, 2011 | 0 Comments

Name: Clay Talbot

Age: 30

Ethnicity: Caucasian

Occupation: Currently Unemployed

Short Background:
Clay Talbot was just an ordinary man with a very boring ordinary life. He had very few friends and the ones he had barely liked him to begin with. Had he been left to his own devices, he probably would have just gone along with his boring life and died a boring death. However, something magical happened.

While watching television one day, Clay had a strong desire for a soda. Suddenly one appeared directly in front of him. He thought about a large cheese pizza and then one appeared. And with that his boring life took a pleasant turn in to something magical.

Or it would have.

Much to Clay’s dismay, he found that his powers are ineffective when other people are around. Frustrated with his life and intrigued by the potential for power, Clay left his life behind for one of solitude. He now lives in a cabin in the woods and spends most of his time training and working to hone his skills. Many people think Clay simply snapped due to his extremely boring life and the prospect of continuing down the same path for the rest of his days.

And they are absolutely right.

Of course, Clay always argues that he his best friend Harvey believes him. Yet, no one has ever seen or heard of Harvey before…

Description:
He looks like you’d expect a crazy guy who lives in a forest to look. Dirty, unshaven, and one setback away from completely losing it.

No. 10- Rebecca Rodriguez

| November 10, 2011 | 0 Comments

Name: Rebecca Rodriguez

Age: 25

Ethnicity: Puerto Rican- American

Occupation: Necromancer, Head of the Shadows, Revenge Seeker, Demon Slayer

Short Background:
Rebecca never really stood out in high school. She was a wallflower that people barely noticed. Even when they did notice her, it was usually to mock her.

Despite being an outcast, Rebecca was able to find happiness with young man named Karl Lawson. Karl respected Rebecca’s mind and saw past her awkward personality. Rebecca looked past the fact that he was fused with a demon. For three years, there was a happiness in her life that she never wanted to end.

That was before Karl’s demon gained control and ate her family the day after prom. Her innocence died with them.

For the next seven years, Rebecca dedicated her life to training so that she could gain revenge on her ex-boyfriend. She studied several dark arts as well as joining the Shadows, a ninja clan in Kyoto Town. Despite not usually allowing outsiders in, the master sensed a strong drive within her. After joining, Rebecca began honing her body into a finely tuned instrument of death. She also began slowly moving up the ranks with in the Clan. It was only a matter of time before she took her place as the head of the clan after the Master died under strange circumstances.

Now, with the Shadows at her command and all of the power she possess, Rebecca just has to wait for the right moment to strike.

Design:
Rebecca likes to be very mysterious and because of this she wears a lot of cloaks and dark colors. She will wear different outfits depending on her mood. If she is solely there to observe, she will usually wear a dress or something very fashionable. However, if she is in the mood to get involved then you will see her wearing pants and practical fighting attire. She wears her hair long, but usually in a pony tail or a bun.

No. 9- Patrick Mizrahi

| November 9, 2011 | 0 Comments

Name: Patrick Mizrahi

Age: 21

Ethnicity: Iranian-American

Occupation: Convenience Store Clerk, College Student

Short Background:
All Patrick wanted to do was make some money over the summer and go into his last year off college not completely broke. In order to do so, he opted to work at his uncle’s convenience store to put together some extra cash. It wasn’t exactly the safest neighborhood, but his uncle promised to give him a bonus if he could last the summer. Despite the dangers, how bad could it get?

Then he met Oscar Ortiz. From the moment they met, Patrick took an instant dislike to him and his attitude. But when assassin’s and hit men came gunning for Oscar, Patrick really hated him. The neighborhood was dangerous enough, but now it seems like he is in over his head.

Design:
Patrick dresses somewhat more formally than Oscar. He does wear t-shirts and jeans but very rarely. He does not wear wifebeaters, sleeveless shirts, or basketball shorts. He is very formal and almost the exact opposite of Oscar in every way.

No. 8- Oscar Ortiz

| November 8, 2011 | 0 Comments

Tiny head, big body.

Name: Oscar Ortiz

Age: 28

Ethnicity: Puerto Rican-American

Occupation: Former Assassin, Convenience Store Clerk.

Short Background:
If there was one thing Oscar lacked, it was self-control. Out of all of the assassin’s in the Reaper’s Guild, he was the most impulsive and thoughtless. It made him many enemies but also made him one of the best. He was so good that he was given the code name Basilisk. Once you saw him, you were already dead. He was that good, but the problem was that he knew it.

However, it is that same impulsiveness and cockiness ends up leading the Guild’s worst enemies right back to them. While many of the assassin’s (including Oscar) manage to escape, they are now targets and out in the open. Many of the remaining assassin’s blame Oscar and their idea of payback is not a simple slap on the wrist.

In order to lay low, Oscar takes up a job that will not draw attention to himself. He finds work at a convenience store in a dangerous neighborhood. A place where people don’t ask questions and, as long as you can survive, you are allowed a little privacy.

Unfortunately, Oscar’s luck may run out as he ends up caught between his worst enemies and his former peers.

Design:
Oscar is trying very hard not to be noticed and does his best to blend in with his surroundings. He dresses very “urban” (hoodies, wifebeaters, jeans, etc.) and has even taken on an accent to better fit in. Physically, he is very muscular but not to the point of being a caricature. If I had to compare him to anyone in terms of physique, he’d probably be along the lines of Ricky Steamboat in his prime. In short, this guy isn’t perfect but a still BAMF.

Character No. 7- David Stone

| November 6, 2011 | 0 Comments

I was trying to draw Anti-Riot Gear, but he ended up looking like a TMNT impersonator. Sigh...

Name: David Stone

Age: 40

Ethnicity: Caucasian

Occupation: Former Police Officer/Vigilante/Revenge Seeker

Short Backstory:
Dt. David Stone was once a member of an elite police task force. When a mission went wrong and left his team killed, the police assumed it was an inside job. As the sole survivor, David was branded a traitor and put in jail for the crime. Now, after five years in prison, David knows who really killed his team and will go to any means to get revenge.

Unfortunately, the city suffered a major black out before he got the chance to get revenge. Now stranded in the prison with several criminals that hate his guts, David Stone has to survive so that he can gain revenge.

Design:
He spends a lot of time in prison so he only really wears one outfit, or a variation of that outfit. When the blackout occurs, he will fight and suffer a lot of damage, but will eventually get his hands on some anti-riot gear.

Character No. 6- Henry London

| November 5, 2011 | 0 Comments

Came out much more "mullet-y" than I wanted. Oh well.

Name: Henry London

Age: 24

Ethnicity: Caucasian

Occupation: English Teacher, Guitarist

Short Background:

Despite his size and messy looks, Henry is somewhat a gentle giant. When he isn’t working on his paintings, he spends a lot of time playing his guitar. He tries to be encouraging and is often seen trying to help others. Very much a big brother figure and always looking to work with others.

Henry never really thought about traveling, but when he was offered a chance to teach abroad, he jumped at the opportunity of a lifetime. It was also a chance to see the place where his grandfather once lived during his time in the military. He never knew what he was getting into, but hopefully he can achieve these goals without alienating the people he left behind (including his girlfriend). Only time will tell if he can survive in unfamiliar territory.

Design:
Really, he doesn’t have any truly defining features. He wears a lot of t-shirts and dresses very casually (perhaps more so than his bosses would like). Jeans and perhaps some khakis on occasion. He is not cut out to be a businessman or hold a white collar job, but he puts a lot of effort into everything he does.

Character No. 2- Devon Wright

| November 2, 2011 | 0 Comments

Name: Devon Wright

Aliases: D-Wright and then “Divine” Wright

Age: 17

Ethnicity: African-American

Short Background:
Young Devon Wright burst onto the hip-hop scene at the young age of 13. He made a name for himself with clean, radio-friendly songs like “Friend Zone”, “First Date”, and “Summer Vacation”. Despite having three multi-platinum albums, numerous awards, and a massive fan base, Devon is not happy.

He has been labeled a tool of the machine by his peers and many of his idols. Now 17, Devon wants to be taken more seriously and has began crafting more politically minded music like his idols, Public Enemy. However, his label is constantly blocking any attempts at growth. They tell him to make songs like his former hits and threaten to cut his funding if he continues to be a problem.

During this time, Devon’s fame has earned him the chance to perform for the President during a time of controversy. Such a platform could be the perfect place to reveal his new image, but also a good way to lose everything. Trapped between keeping his family comfortable and wanting to have work worth being proud of, Devon must make a choice and live with the consequences.

Concept: What if Justin Bieber turned into Immortal Technique?

Design:
With Devon,  there are two distinct styles. I felt he would be something along the lines of a Lil’ Bow Wow or Justin Bieber. Someone radio friendly and ultimately for kids. So he wears a lot of bright colors and old school clothing (track suits, big jewelry, kangol hats, etc.). Things that would make people feel comfortable. If he wears a hat, it is to the side or worn in a comical fashion. He is more a long the lines of the Fresh Prince or something positive. He should look very non-threatening.

Later, he completely does a 180 and begins wearing more military minded clothing. Fatigues, camouflage, and bandannas. Also, the color scheme completely vanishes in favor of dark gray and black pant. The Chuck Taylors get replaced with combat boots. Everything is completely different. Continue Reading

Character No. 1- Athena Jackson

| November 1, 2011 | 0 Comments

I am going to try and draw a picture with each description. Apologies in advance.

Name: Athena Jackson

Age: 29 (in 1972)

Race: African-American

Occupation: Teacher/Vigilante

Short Background:
When the Mafia killed Detective Clyde Jackson, they thought that the streets were theirs for the taking. Unfortunately, they failed to realize two important things about the late detective.

The fact that his wife, though now living as a school teacher, was once equally as dangerous and the fact that she never believed in justice.

She only believed in vengeance.

Now, Athena Jackson is a one woman army dedicated to cleaning the streets of her city with the blood of drug pushers, made men, and any jive turkey stupid enough to stand in her way.

Design:

I don’t know why, but I always felt like there should be more blaxploitation characters with Greek first names.

Athena Jackson is a blatant throwback to blaxploitation. More along the lines of Cleopatra Jones than Coffy or Foxy Brown. She’s a fighter, not a lover. While she does dress fashionably, she also makes sure that she’s ready should a fight come her way. No heels or platform shoes, either.

2011 Challenger: Jon Parrish

| October 26, 2011 | 0 Comments

20 PercentGreetings to all.

You know, I’ve seen the ads for the 30 Characters Challenge and it always looked interesting. I always thought about entering, but things would happen and I would end up putting it off.

Not this year.

After seeing what everyone has done and been doing with this, I thought it would be a good time to start. I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone does.

I am currently living in Japan and working as an Assistant Language Teacher. I have been here for almost a year and a half. I am also working on a book that I hope will be out either by the end of this year or the beginning of the next one.

I’m a writer first and foremost, but I will try to include drawings when I can. Stick figures are okay, right?

Good luck to everyone and I hope that we can all make it to 30.
