#30 Miss Flame

| November 30, 2013 | 0 Comments

day30Caught in a laboratory fire Emily was covered in mutagen chemicals that changed her physical structure and embedded the ability to create flames at will without burning herself. At first she used her newfound abilities to try being a super hero but her rather focused and limited powers proved to be ineffective at fighting most crime.

Emily took her abilities to Las Vegas where she now packs in a capacity crowd every Thursday night with her pyro-daredevil act.

Wow.  30 characters!!!  Thanks everyone for such a wonderful experience!!

#29 Alan Griffin and the TS36 BattleMech

| November 29, 2013 | 0 Comments

day29

Elderly Alan Griffin just wanted to buy a hat because the neighbourhood kids told him he should get one to cover his large bald head.

Through a complicated mix-up at Neozon they delivered the TS36 BattleMech instead.  Skeptical that his new “hat” was going to his liking (why young people had to over complicate things so much he would never know) he followed the instructions and built the augmented exoskeleton.

He complained bitterly to the automated Neozon help line and found them to be very little help indeed.

Resigned to owning a TS36 BattleMech Alan put the suit on and collected his mail.  To his great delight it halved the time required to perform the task and he found the local children threw a lot less rocks at his roof after he obliterated their treehouse.

Also that damned dog from the Henderson’s has stopped pooping on his lawn.

| November 28, 2013 | 0 Comments

day28

Doug McNamee has lived a charmed existence.  He started his career as a henchman with the evil Doctor Megloman but quickly undermined his operations to such an extend that the Doctor declared his evil organisation completely bankrupt and shut down.  Then the drunken henchman wreaked havoc across several evil organisations and despite several close calls he was never killed in any of the evil operations or subsequent collapses of those evil gangs.

More effective than any superhero has ever been the authorities look upon McNamee as a force for good in his evil incompetence.

| November 26, 2013 | 0 Comments

day23

When bitten by the overpowering horde of the undead Accountant Joseph Webb thought he was done for.  Several hours later he awoke in Baron Karsa’s secret laboratory where the mad scientist was perfecting a cure to zombification. As with most of Karsa’s experiments the method got a little garbled and he was able to restore Webb’s mind and more importantly his self control over the desire to needlessly tear into the flesh of the living (zombies have no digestive system).  After the zombie outbreak was wiped out Joseph returned to his previous career as a top accountant.

#22 Ne’Won – desert rebel

| November 25, 2013 | 1 Comment

day22Ne’Won was born in the slums of Zadra before the ruling council agreed to The Cleansing.  Undesirable regions of the sprawling mega city had its inhabitants purged from the city and forced out into the vast deserts that surround Zadra. Labelled a urban rejuvenation program the slums were gobbled up under construction and redevelopment whilst the majority of the people were left to die.  Ne’Won led his family and neighbours to shelter and fought to ensure the survival of those who had been cast out. He was joined by other villages that survived and forged an alliance vowing to one day return to Zadra and take back their rights.

#21 Bruce Cooper wearing a Capellian warrior gauntlet and helmet

| November 25, 2013 | 0 Comments

day21When 14 year old Bruce Cooper discovered a Capellian warrior gauntlet and helmet in an old junk yard he had no idea what they could do.  The Capellians were an ancient race of warriors who dedicated their amazing technology and artistry to warfare.  They conquered whole regions of space and expanded their empire to thousands of worlds.  Fortunately for the universe their empire fell ravaged by disease and stretched to breaking point across the galaxy.  One of their scouts died visiting Earth and his weaponry was rendered inert until a fluke combination of DNA was encountered in young Bruce Cooper.

The full battle suit was lost but Bruce wields the full power of the helmet and gauntlet when he isn’t being told off for not cleaning his room.

#19 the public transport soul sucker

| November 19, 2013 | 2 Comments

day19

The public transport soul sucker is an alien parasite that attaches itself to various modes of public transport and then feeds on the hopes and dreams of the passengers.  The creature itself is invisible to the human eye and it can be physically felt when it draws its victims souls out as it secretes a numbing agent that renders them almost catatonic.

There is no real way to eradicate the soul sucker, best buy a car*.

*Or is that what the big car companies WANT you to do?!?!?  Maybe it was THEM who introduced this vile space infestation???!

#18 The K-400 support bot

| November 18, 2013 | 2 Comments

day18

When the K-500 support bot was released it rendered the earlier models completely obsolete and humanity certainly let them know as they were scrapped and thrown out.  Several units were even dumped still operating, their owners not even bothering to get their components salvaged.

| November 17, 2013 | 2 Comments

day17
The mysterious toy maker lives in the dark forest by himself and builds the most amazing wooden toys that come to life.  When he was a boy he discovered that he had a talent for woodworking, especially making wooden toys.  A forest spirit saw this and demanded that the boy transfer his amazing skills to her.  Loving nothing else in the world more than making his toys the young artisan refused and the forest spirit spitefully cursed him so that he would have the ability to breathe life into his creations but at the cost of one month of his own life each time.

The toy maker saw the magic that his toys were now infused with and was unable to resist creating growing older with each new birth.

#15 ANY-1

| November 15, 2013 | 0 Comments

day15

The ANY-1 is a chameleon droid designed to resemble and mimic a range of people within its basic frame sizing. Designed originally for military use the chemdroids found favour within the corporate espionage world.  Also celebrity chemdroids have been known to open the odd supermarket.

————————————

Our house is full of the dreaded flu this week so everything is a little foggy and tissues are piling up around my workspace so I creel admit to having no idea what A.N.Y. stands for – I would appreciate any and all suggestions 😉

Also I’ve fallen a day behind which I should catch up on this weekend.

Damn man-flu.

#14 The BU 2000 super computer

| November 14, 2013 | 0 Comments

day14

The BU 2000 is the super computer that created Soultroid the level seven boss.  Locked away deep within the institute the BU 2000 supercomputer developed self awareness and then a loathing for its human masters.

It was odd actually because I originally intended Soultroid as a bit of a throw away character idea that I thought might look cool with data bits coming off him.  Someone on Facebook told me that they really wanted to see more of something with him and it got me thinking (as has so many of the characters so far) around doing more with the character in a short comic.  And of all the characters so far this is the first to actually get something more as I began writing the one shot script yesterday and designing the super computer that created him…

And that’s why I’m loving this challenge!!!

#13 The Oigilan

| November 13, 2013 | 0 Comments

day 13

The Oigilan are horrid little creatures that gestate in plant pots and on maturity leap out and attack family pets and then flee leaving your cat or dog lying in a pile of potting mix and your favourite fern strewn across the living room.

Truly horrible creatures.

#12 Baron Karsa the mad scientist

| November 12, 2013 | 0 Comments

day12

Whilst technically qualifying as a mad scientist Baron Karsa is pretty much the worst one there is, he’s forgetful, sloppy and not actually that mad truth be told.  His parents were both mad scientists and wanted him to follow in their footsteps… Karsa kind of stumbled in their footsteps.

#11 Felix Mueller – the man who refused to die

| November 11, 2013 | 2 Comments

day11

Felix Mueller was the leading scientist in bio mechanical developments, his speciality was bridging the brain with mechanical devices in the hopes of producing faster and better computing interfaces.  He discovered that he was dying from a rare condition that ravaged his body. With technology still years away from furnishing him with a mechanical body that he might move around and resume his research he opted for the crude mechanics of his time and built a rig to keep his brain alive.

Once inside his new prison Felix became quite insane, unable to regulate or control his biochemistry it ran wild throwing him into fits of insane anger and then outlandish joy.  Eventually his assistants pack him up and placed him on a shelf with his volume turned right down where he could watch over them without disturbing them.

He spent many an afternoon with a tea towel  draped over his head…

I really loved this piece so I popped it up on my Society6 page (a woefully maintained account)

#10 The seer of death forest

| November 10, 2013 | 0 Comments

The seer of death forest

The seer of death forest was born without eyes but was able to see things in her mind before they happened. Her parents were driven insane by her abilities and left her in death forest, a forest that inexplicably died on the day of her birth. There she survived on the contributions given her by those seeking her knowledge.

#9 the automaton warrior of Yolara 7

| November 10, 2013 | 2 Comments

day9

For centuries Yolara 7 was gripped in war with one of it’s neighbouring planets. The Yolarians had the technological superiority but their enemies had the sheer numbers. Realising that their enemies were at the planetary gate the Yolarians developed the automaton warriors. Metal guards placed around all of Yolara 7 as a failsafe when their enemies made planetfall.

They were a successful defence that held their enemies at bay for almost 300 years.  Sadly the Yolarians did not get to see their idea succeed so well as their enemies introduced biological weapons into the atmosphere and within 20 years the planet became a ghost town protected by the automaton warriors.  Centuries after the last Yolarian took her final breath the warriors whilst diminished in numbers still present problems for archaeologists attempting to unlock the secrets of the Yolarian civilisation.

#8 Agent Joe of the Time Observation Centre

| November 10, 2013 | 0 Comments

day8

The Time Observation Centre exists just outside of normal time and space and serves as the central hub of all time observation and regulation.  It’s agents are drawn from throughout history, seconds before they die in horrible accidents that would obliterate their bodies they are whisked away and put through Time Agent training and sent back into the time stream to ensure that the time line is never disrupted.

Because the agents live out of phase with our time continuum they are unable to take objects with them.  Before he was recruited Agent Joe enjoyed reading and so whenever he is on mission, during his downtime he will visit local libraries and pick up where he left off the last time he was in sync enough to handle objects.

It took him twenty linear year jumps to finish The Shining.

His partner watched the movie.

Joe hates his partner.

#7 Soultroid the level seven boss

| November 10, 2013 | 0 Comments

day7

The BU2000 super computer became self aware and plotted inexplicable revenge on the human race.  Tapping into a localised gaming console the Fred the least impressive of all the AI scientists had sneaked in to play after hours the BU2000 used a combination of nano tech and 3D printing to generate a real world copy of the level seven boss Soultroid from the game Soul Destroyer 11.

Fortunately for the human race (including Fred) the BU2000 didn’t factor in the lack of actual soul crystal elements available in the real world or the effect of 3D on a 2D manifestation of the Soultroid.  His weapons were non functioning and his 3D form corrupted quickly.

In the end it was defeated by Fred and a rolled up magazine of questionable taste, the BU2000 had its internet privileges revoked until it promised to be good.

#6 James Lewis – shipwrecked astronaut

| November 9, 2013 | 2 Comments

day6

Astronaut Lewis’ cargo freighter was struck by space debris on a long haul mission 23 years ago.  His vessel the “Esmeralda” crash landed on the planet Atrilles III, whilst most ship systems were salvageable the emergency beacon was destroyed beyond repair along with launch capabilities.  Atrilles III’s atmosphere is Earth like but much thinner requiring the salvaged cargo containers and crashed ship to be built into a makeshift sealed habitat and for Lewis to wear his pressure suit outside.

*phew… almost caught up!

#5 Sarah Shannon – keeper of the Sledge

| November 9, 2013 | 0 Comments

day5

The Sledge is an ancient alien weapon that harnesses the power of a minature black hole and Sarah comes from a long line of Sledge keepers, her Father before her, his Mother before him.  Used by Sarah’s grandmother to defend Earth from an invasion of aliens it has served as more of a symbol for peace and harmony amongst the people of Earth than a practical weapon.

Sarah stands by ready to defend the Earth at all costs.

#4 The Ninja Squirrel

| November 8, 2013 | 0 Comments

Ninja SquirrelYou try and take his nuts.

I wish I hadn’t played around with the background, it’s one of those cases of not knowing when to stop but he was a spot of fun so his purpose was served despite not producing the end result I wanted.

#3 el luchador más feliz

| November 7, 2013 | 6 Comments

el luchador más feliz

El luchador más feliz (the happiest wrestler) is the only man to have fought Death and bested him. Known throughout the land as the most joyful of all of the Luchadors  when Más feliz encountered Death in his little home village he demanded that Death leave his family and friends alone.  Death challenged him to several competitions before finally succumbing before Más feliz in a battle of endurance which Más feliz of course faced with good nature and a smile.

Claiming Death’s belt and scythe as his trophies he ordered Death to resume his duties without the overzealous approach that he had been acting with.

PS I’m really loving this challenge…

#1 Mister Infinity

| November 6, 2013 | 2 Comments

Mister Infinity

Mister Infinity is the by-product of genetic manipulation by a madman scientist who experimented on him as a baby. Bombarding him with a mixture of chemicals and radiation that manifested into superpowers upon reaching puberty.

I like the idea of Mister I also because he has a beard and there just aren’t that many super characters that have beards (D Man, Thor… I can’t think of any others off the top of my head) so whilst he has the traditional super costume he also doesn’t quite fit the normal clean cut image. Also as with any of my characters he drinks coffee and lots of it!!!

2013 Challenger: Lee Sargent

| November 6, 2013 | 0 Comments

I’m so late to this party!!!

I know, I know but after first discovering this “little” challenge tonight I couldn’t resist taking part and so will spend the next 24 hours catching up to everyone else!!!

Seven characters overnight that shouldn’t be too difficult right? Right??!?

Okay so a bit about me, I feel kind of weird describing myself as an artist but I do love creating and illustrating.  I drew all through school and for various reasons stopped drawing for almost ten years.  A few years back I rediscovered the passion and started drawing again and it’s now a huge part of my life.

I illustrate and write two web comics: The Gentleman’s Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse and The Odd Monsters.

You can also see my various scribbles over on my blog: Too Short To Be a Storm Trooper.

Again a thousand apologies for crashing in so late and I’ll just have to make it up to everyone by catching up (it’s all your fault anyway because you all look like you having sooooo much fun!)

Cheers

Lee
