12 – Night Ninja by Beausephus+Son

| November 12, 2011 | 0 Comments

CHARACTER NAME:  Night Ninja

DATE OF CREATION: Summer 2011

CONCEPT:  “He’s a ninja who uses swords.  He’s the best sword guy in the world.  Sometimes he uses a laser sword, but he likes his magic swords better.”

So when the mood strikes my son (and that is quite often) and he wants to make up “superguys”, “superdudes”, “supermans”… I pull out a bunch of templates I made for him and he picks out everything from the style of boots to the color scheme of the various costume options presented before him.  I then draw quick sketch, and he edits, adds, etc…  I then draw up the character and he hangs them in his room…if they meet his ultimate judgement.  Then I make him come up with a story for each character.

____________________________________________

NIGHT NINJA is another member of my kid’s superhero team- The Amazing Justice Squad of Superheroes.   Like all little boys, my son loves to play “sword-fighting” with me.  Somewhere in between watching the Last Airbender cartoon and re-runs of Silverhawks, he discovered ninjas…or as he calls them, “‘injas”.

I think in his mind a ninja is like a spy who uses swords and somehow has magic.  So essentially that’s what NIGHT NINJA is, a spy with swords.  Later designs of “spy” type characters have similar color schemes and costume patterns.  There’s another character coming later called “CUTTER” who is on the super-team with NIGHT NINJA.  As my kid puts it, “They get into sword fights, but when bad guys come in the house, they fight the bad guys and call them names.”  It’s like a toddler version of Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes.

Thanks for checking out my stuff.  I just showed my kid that his characters are on the computer and he was really excited.

#12 Alphex

| November 12, 2011 | 0 Comments

Alphex was inspired by the 80’s TV show The Greatest American Hero. I liked the idea of  someone wearing a superhero costume and not knowing exactly what they are doing in the process.

Alphex’s real name  is Jefferson Jackson. It just seems nothing ever goes right for him. he’s very frustrated by his talent of art and struggles to succeed as an artist. Not to mention living with his mother, and has not having the greatest love life.

One night he discovers a small luggage case located at a local park near where he lives, opens it, and it’s costume of some kind. Then he wears it, and it and him become one. The suit gives him powers that he uses that he doesn’t know or understand how they come about, but he shouts out a command and the suit responds almost right away, resulting in Jefferson engaging in some wacky adventures using the suit with some hilarious results. Eventually he will understand it’s use and somehow will master it.

Height:6’0 weight:228 lbs. Age: 38 Race: African-American

Powers:

Super strength, speed, holographic vision

Personality:

Open minded, sometimes not know what he’s doing till after the fact, at times sarcastic, has a sense of humor.

#11: E.S.C.O.

| November 12, 2011 | 1 Comment

The Electrifying Arm of the Law, E.S.C.O.

Standing for Electro . Static. Civil. Officer., E.S.C.O. is the go-to in dealing with intense meta-situations as he is one of the few super-powered beings working within the law enforcement path. Billed as an advanced android provided by Asimov Technologies, E.S.C.O. is, in fact, a human named Armando Ruiz who is endowed with electrical powers that he uses to stun his opponents while a constant static pulse field around his body repels all metallic projectiles, making him effectively bulletproof. Armando’s powers came about him at around puberty, when he accidentally caused a blackout during one of  Chicago’s heatwave attacks. Though powerful, Armando sought out a  practical use for his powers. First, by self teaching himself and researching all aspects of electricity and magnetism at the library, as he couldn’t use a computer without shorting it out. As he became a little more competent with his abilities, to the point of shielding himself in order to interact with technology, and was deciding on a college, he was approached by the Loman Organization to be utilized as a field agent. He spent much of college years as an Agent of Loman, until he stepped down and decided to use his abilities to serve the police force. Thanks to Loman, Armand was placed in Chicago’s S.W.A.T. division and is the starting member of the Powers Division, a unit designated to respond and engage in super-powered crime and conflicts.

With the starting of Frontline, E.S.C.O. serves as both a part-time member and as a liaison between the Chicago Police Force and the Superhuman Community. E.S.C.O. stills hides behind a mask to protect those he stands to lose most of all, his wife and newborn son.

Abilities: E.S.C.O. possesses electromagnetic and eletrostatic abilities. Capable of projecting bolts of electricity, yet possess little to no control in regards to aim; using “taser lines” housed in his gloves as focal tool in order to direct his charges. A constant electrical field around him nullifies most incoming projectiles, making him safe from bullets, knives, and metallic debris. However, energy projectiles and non-metallic objects can get past his field, while his field also disrupts most tech with his immediate vicinity. Able to make metallic objects “repel” or “attract” to one another by supercharging it with static energy. Uses this method to levitate and on a sack of ball bearings to cause confusion amongst enemies.

E.S.C.O.’s armor is harder carbon plate armor with energy channeling discs to regulate Armando’s  energy flow with standard issue S.W.A.T. attire. His equipment consists of a bag of ball bearings, taser lines, metallic discs, plastic cuffs, carbon steel telescopic batons, mini antenna, and portable riot shield.

Creation: E.S.C.O. is actually based on my best friend from High School, as this was his hip hop name he gave himself amongst his circle of friends and I used his middle name  for the secret identity of the character. I wanted to employ as a character and juggled the idea around since college. He went through various revisions until I stuck with utilizing aspects of a police uniform for his character design, more specifically in the S.W.A.T. attire. The helmet came from S.W.A.T. Team helmets with a modified face mask, while I based a concept sketch of Havok from X-Men to tool around with the top, as a Special Weapons And Tactics officer would use a special kind of attire to make him stand out from you conventional S.W.A.T. wardrobe.

The One-ster is one of the most diabolical and vexing members of the Alliance of Dirty Buggers.  His true name long since gone, he has become know as the “One Prince of Crime” and “Hey, that ‘One’ guy!”

“1! 1! 1! 1! 1! 1! 1! 1!  Nobody can understand being an individual like I can!

1! 1! 1! 1! 1! 1! 1! 1!  It’s my singular focus to keep unity and single handedly befuddle the community…1! 1! 1! 1! … all those… many great unwashed masses who have non-unique identities.  1! 1! 1! 1!”

Day 11: Lolli “Babydoll”

| November 11, 2011 | 0 Comments

This character after growing up in a rough life and witnessing a lot of abuse around her decided to become a vigilante of sorts. She blends in to the street scene and acts as a naive or otherwise helpless victim while keeping an eye on her neighborhood. She is a lot more capable than she looks and is a skilled fighter and assassin if need be.

Wild man of the desert

Master of explosives and stankiness!

Here we have Ol Coyote, the desert ghost.  Left for dead by the economic system of the veldt, the Ol Coyote has gone to be alone with his thoughts in the dry harsh outer reaches.

“They said to me, they said, Coyote, you got to stop chasing so much skirt and so many attempts at being happy.  Go away.”

So Mr. Ooglee disappeared from the world.

“If’n any folk come round here, I gonna stop them.  Now I’m as happy as a roadrunner on speed.”

#11 Maxwell Higashi

| November 11, 2011 | 0 Comments

Name: Maxwell Higashi

Age: 20

Hometown: Thales, New York

Current Location: Parsons University; Swansea, New York

Occupation: Student (Undergraduate – Electrical Engineering); part-time stork clerk

Biography: Maxwell had a happy childhood. He lived in a suburb and lived in the same house for the first eighteen years of his life. He was hassled a bit for his mixed heritage, but aside from them his community and peers were very accepting. He isn’t overly aggressive, which is part of the reason why he didn’t graduate at the top of his class. His grades were always well above average, though. There was one moment when everyone was really afraid for him during the first year of high school when he seemed like he was scared of his own shadow and one step away from having a complete breakdown. He’s better now. Honestly. Really, Mom, I’m fine.

It was because of the aforementioned near breakdown that everyone was surprised when he decided to go to a school in Upstate New York. Thales is in the South-Western part of the state, whereas Swansea is pretty much Quebec. Or Vermont. Nevertheless, he won that argument with his parents, counsellor, and friends. He just needed out of Suburbia, and Middle-of-Nowhere-Almost-Canada, NY seemed to be the right place to go. So with more than a little worry on everyone’s part, he packed up his clothes and other apparent essentials for college dorm life and hit the road. He tried to bring as little as possible with him, but he still spent over 8 hours squished in the back seat with a ton of crap he didn’t know he needed.

OK, so all this background is boring. Let’s get to the fun stuff.

His dad’s a third-generation Japanese-American, so he doesn’t know Japanese, thank you very much. His mom is sixth generation English and Scottish, fifth-generation French and Irish, and who-knowsth-generation Polish. No one really knows when that got in the gene pool, but it’s there and isn’t leaving. But that’s not the interesting bit. The interesting bit is where she’s from.

Bramley, Illinois.

Where’s that? Never heard of it? I wouldn’t expect you to, since it’s a modern day ghost town now. Sure you might hear about it in history class, but who learns anything in that?

Bramley was a suburban town on the outskirts of Chicago. One of those commuter towns where people just kind of existed. It had some stuff, apparently. A movie theater, strip mall, Chinese restaurant run by Vietnamese people, and houses. Lots of houses. Then one day, Typical Town America exploded.

Not giant fireballs engulfing the town and ash clouds blocking out the sun. A fire started in one of the homes and exploded before it could be put out. A gas leak or something, is what most people were told. No, it wasn’t the fire that was the problem.

It was the gas.

No one knows what the gas was or what it was even doing in that house, and it broke down into harmless, untraceable elements before anyone official or unofficial could look at it. Hell, people only found out years later that it was mutagenic.

Correction: only a small handful of people found it was that. It’ll probably be another generation before the cat’s out of the bag and a bunch of kids start shooting fire from their eyes when they hit puberty (as if it wasn’t tough enough already).

Maxwell isolated no matter where he is, if he’s in Swansea or Thales,  because he’s a part of the first generation.

The first generation of kids to be born with extraordinary powers.

Freshman year sucked.

He’s better now. He’s figured out this weird electrical thing he can do as if he’s the freaking Energizer Bunny. He figures that he might be able to fly if he got it right, but at the moment he’s settled for climbing up walls like Spiderman. He doesn’t exactly shoot thunder from his fingertips, but subtly is so underrated. Why make a big light show of things when you can make them electrocute themselves?

A superhero name, you ask? Hell no. That’s just asking for trouble. Let him graduate first before that happens.

And put that spandex away.

#11: Black Ice

| November 11, 2011 | 0 Comments

Real Name: Alex Lundy

Age: 22

Height: 5’10

Weight: 175 lbs

Powers: Able to create ice particles from his hands

Character info: Black Ice was born several years ago, when I was going to do a comic about a group of college kids who became superheroes (Rock Solid, a character I did on here a few days ago, was also part of the same team). Black Ice’s look back then is pretty much the same right here…even though I only drew his mask before, I knew exactly what I wanted his suit to look like. He will use his ice powers to make an ice snowboard at times, for fast traveling. This character may show up in a comic I am working on soon…

#11 Bubble Gum

| November 11, 2011 | 3 Comments

So I don’t know if anyone out there is following these, but I have been posting some very tongue-in-cheek characters for a humorous project I want to finish after the challenge.

This one is a cartoonier departure from my already cartoony style I have been using. I can’t help it – I love cartoons. I am thinking about switching styles. Haven’t decided yet.

My origin description is short because it’s Friday 🙂 Anyway…here goes. Itroducing Bubble Gum:

Daughter of a wealthy inventor of designer candies and sweets, Candi Kellogg showed a creative flair for the field of chemistry and cooking her own delicious treats as well. Inventing a special formula for various gums, she has created a super power for herself. Gum bubbles are her specialty and her gums can blow many different kinds. Grape gum bubbles float and carries her into the air. Blueberry gum bubbles burst a sticky gum-glue all over a villainous victim. Cherry red gum bubbles bounce any on-coming missiles, falling buildings, debris and even other super powered energy blasts. Sour apple green gum tastes especially good.

#11 Alex Thayer – Weatherman

| November 11, 2011 | 0 Comments

Thunder flashes across the sky as the storm roils over the city. We’ve felt it brewing for the last few days, building in heat and energy. When it broke loose, everyone knew that it was going to be the storm of the century.

Most people took shelter in their homes. With the roads flooded and power-lines down, better to remain safe in a dark home than risk being out on the streets.

That was most people. Not me. With the storm venting its fury, the city was open to me, and I had a list of targets.

There was the mayor, who siphoned funds from the schools to his own private accounts. That was something that I’d been looking forward to a long time.

The local union leader that had looted the worker’s pension fund. He was risking the lives and futures of thousands, and was sitting under house arrest in his thirty million dollar mansion.

A beast of man that had made a habit of leaving his girlfriends bleeding in hospital beds. Right now he was trapped at hotel near the edge of town.

All these and dozens more. There wasn’t any way that I’d be able to finish my list tonight. But as long as the weather held, I didn’t have to wait.

#11 “Liftoff” Laurie Simmons

| November 11, 2011 | 0 Comments

Universe/Storyline: The Band

Universe details: In the isolated city of Crescent where these characters live, superpowers spring from close encounters with death. Only people born in the city can gain these powers, and since this is a relatively new settlement, the first generation of people born there are just starting to show signs of super-fication. This means mostly kids and teens. Of the teens, Camille, Max, Amelia, Walter, and Rin decide to team up and form a band. They take it upon themselves to help other kids who are just getting powers/dealing with death. Eventually, when The Band realizes that everyone deserves to be informed about the city’s unique predicament, they try to reach every kid in the city at once by putting on a live concert.

Height: 5’ 6”

Body Type: Skinny, but with fairly large breasts and buttocks for her age. Ideal target for the hormonal teenage males in town.

Hair: Black, just past the shoulder, tight curls like tiny telephone cords, slick with styling product.

Eyes: Brown with flecks of gold, always glittering and traced with eyeliner, eye shadow, mascara…

Race: White. Skin has some freckling.

Age: 17

Attire: Laurie is very hip to fashion trends and always wears the latest and greatest. She tends to expose her cleavage as often as possible, in order to show off her tattoo of a blossoming rose between her breasts. She knows that besides her powers, seduction is her strength, and she intends to use it.

Superpowers: Gravitational field manipulation (conscious, primary)- Laurie can manipulate how heavy or light an object is, causing it to float or remain grounded and practically unmovable. She can manipulate her own body in order to fly, or manipulate objects to move as she wills them in a form of telekinesis. She cannot, however, use her powers to break down objects that are solid. When her powers are pitted against Max’s metal manipulation, for example, Max finds he can make metal objects escape her influence by breaking them down into enough parts that she can’t focus on controlling them all. In other words, her power is easily overwhelmed by a mass assault, distraction, or sneak attack.

Personality: Laurie is first and foremost a performer. Her personality is characterized by haughtiness, attention to her appearance, and a propensity for telling (convincing) lies. Anyone who is somewhat perceptive (not usually the teenage males with raging hormones) will notice that she comes off as kind of fake right away. Her tendency is to use her powers selfishly to get what she wants, with little concern for others. This is also how she handles her relationships.

Power Source/Backstory:

  1. Laurie was at The Band’s first concert, where overenthusiastic heroes killed a person disguised as a usually robotic police officer.

Theme Song: Bug- Wavves

Day 11: The King Eagle

| November 11, 2011 | 0 Comments
King Eagle
The King Eagle from the Alliance

Mark Blakely earned the name King Eagle as leader of a fighter squadron in World War II known as Eagle Squad, and for having one of the highest confirmed kills in the war.  Afterwards he became a test pilot in the avionics division of scientist/etrepeneur and brother in law Harold Bell (AKA The Shifter).  Bell had two years earlier developed a suit that could shrink and grow the size of the wearer.  He now adapted this technology to a wing harness along with his physisist wife Karen, that would alter the molecular density of its wearer, and result in him/her being able to fly.  Blakely was chosen to do the initial tests for the harness.  All was going well for the trial runs, when a malfunction occured and caused Blakely to crash into the tower, killing 3 including his sister Karen.  The crash also caused the harness to become bonded to Blakely perminently.  Although it was learned later that the malfunction was caused by an agent of I.C.E. Blakely harbored ill feelings for Bell for years to come.  Mark after a period of depression was approached by The Alliance to join their group.  Reluctantly he did, and at first was a sullen loner.  He eventually, however became a trusted and valued member of the group right up until its disapearence in 1953.  In 2001 the group reemerged, and not long afterwards the technology came about to remove the harness safely.  Blakely is today semi-retired, but occasionally re-teams with his old group…

G. Brett Williams #11 – Johnny Diamond, The Ace of Diamonds

| November 11, 2011 | 0 Comments

Johnny Diamond – Johnny is your typical clean cut, blond-haired, blue-eyed, apple pie-eating, All American boy. He’s also something of a technological genius. Engineering ran in Johnny’s family. Going back to the days of the Civil War, his family had been responsible for supplying arms and armor to the American military. Some call it patriotism, some war profiteering, but to Johnny it was just the family business. He never gave it much mind. Johnny spent his youth building things, taking things apart, drawing up plans and schematics, working with his father in his lab. Anything the boy could do to learn more about the science of engineering, he did it. Johnny was a very advanced student and by the age of 19 he’d already completed a bachelor’s degree in science. At age 22, he was completing his masters in engineering. That same year, his parents were murdered and Johnny’s childhood home was burned to the ground. The word had leaked into the criminal community that Johnny’s father was developing a top secret weapon for the military, the kind of weapon that could hold the country hostage with fear if it ever fell into the wrong hands. The secret criminal organization known only as the Order of Osiris attacked Johnny’s family in their home, where his father kept a secret underground laboratory for his most dangerous projects. Somehow the Order found out about this lab and launched an assault on the mansion. Johnny was away at school at the time, so he managed to avoid his family’s gruesome fate. His mother and father were both killed, the plans for the weapon were stolen and the house was burned to the ground. This meant that the time for Johnny to inherit the family business had come. There was a certain unease at the prospect though. To Johnny, the pursuit of newer and more potent weapons was the thing that had ultimately killed his mother and father. Could he justify continuing in his father’s footsteps knowing what he knew about the dangers of munitions manufacturing? Could he put the word in jeopardy as his father had through his carelessness? The thought weighed on him. Johnny knew that he couldn’t simply dismantle the entire company. Regardless of what he had grown to believe about his father’s pursuits, he wasn’t so naive as to think that America would never need weapons again. So instead of completely suspending the company’s production of munitions, Johnny retasked a portion of the company’s assets toward the exploration of non-violent weaponry and fringe science. He appointed himself as the head of this new division and left the running of his father’s company to more qualified men. During his time as the head of this new division of his family’s company, Johnny made new discoveries and created new technologies that drew the attention of scientists and military leaders from around the country and America’s allies in the world. It was a very exciting time for the young savant, but there was always something missing. Johnny never forgot what had happened to his parents, never forgot what the Order of Osiris had done to his family, so when the government came to offer him a chance to fight back against people like the Order and their ilk, Johnny was happy to oblige them.
