2011 Challenger: H.R.I. “Renee”

| October 30, 2011 | 0 Comments

Hello, everyone! I go by my middle name in the art community, so you can call me Renee or Ren.

I’m 22 and living in the ATL. I intern at Whitestone Motion Pictures, but I am between jobs and schools. My aim is to get a degree in graphic design (like everyone and their mother is doing) and make a living off that. I’m a hobbyist when it comes to illustration, but I sure do love doing it!

I love the romantic and the macabre, and most of my characters are initially inspired by songs or types of music. In all likelihood, I will try to post the title of the song of inspiration along with the character too!

Good luck, boys and girls!

My name is… Eh, well you don’t need to know that, but you can call me jacobsmacob. Or Jakie. Or Jake, even if I am a girl. I’m here because I need a cure for my art block and I need to trigger creative juices and the ability to think up new, fresh ideas. I love to write stories and create characters, so this is very interesting for me. I draw in an anime style so beware if you hate that stuff.

I will not draw in chibi style all the time. Or at least try really hard not to, since that what I draw when I’m lazy.

I’m not the best or most skilled artist around and my anatomy sucks. I don’t own a scanner so I will be forced to use my camera to take pictures of my drawings. I will try to edit then so that they will be decent enough but, really, how much decency can you expect from a crappy digital camera and bad lighting?

Here’s an idea of what the quality of images will look like. Here and here give ideas, also.

Wish me luck with this challenge and wish everyone else who’s in this luck, as well.

Yup.

Helloooooo! I’m Roxie.

Using this site makes me realize how internet stupid I am. Oh well, here goes: I’m a 19-year-old aspiring comic lady. I’m in art school at the moment, and I figure this challenge is a great way to make myself actually meet a deadline. I’ve been writing stories and drawing characters for ages, but sadly, none of them are one the web quite yet. Feel free to check out my tumblr though, I post a bunch of fun junk. (turdtime.tumblr.com)

So, let’s form an alliance?

2011 Challenger: Sarah Millet

| October 30, 2011 | 0 Comments

Hello all!

My name is Sarah Millet, an animator currently living in the Bay Area. I saw this challenge while surfing through tumblr and thought it would be the perfect thing to motivate me in the month of November.

I’ll mostly be posting characters here that I am putting together for my character design portfolio. Although most have been either sketched/doodled in some fashion, none have yet to be refined or drawn with great detail. I hope to change that this month and come up with some awesome portfolio pieces. My characters are usually fantasy based and are usually made for animation (less detailed than those made for comics) but I really hope I can come up with some brand new ideas that are out of my usual comfort zone for this amazing challenge. I am excited to see what everyone comes up with! Good luck everyone!

I’ll be posting my progress and finished pieces on tumblr. Feel free to add me and I will definitely add you back!

2011 Challenger: BillieBillie

| October 30, 2011 | 0 Comments

Hi!

I hope I’m doing this right, probably not but whatever.

I’m Billie, and I’m a writer as well as an artist. Next year I will be applying to universities to do an illustration course. I recently finished my first novel, called ‘Schadenfreude’, and I’m kinda down because it’s over, but I’m cheering myself up with this challenge and I’m going to try my very best to stick to it.

Good luck everyone!

What’s up everyone!

My names Ryan,

I am a 24 year old artist with a lack of focus and direction.

Creating characters and sticking to a deadline are two things I need to improve on. I’m hoping this challenge will push me to do both.

I like playing with new styles and trying different mediums so I am really not sure how I plan on approaching this.

If you wanna check out my sketches I’ve been drawing everyday this past  year and posting it on my sketchblog!

Best of luck to everyone!

2011 Challenger: Christina Wolfe

| October 30, 2011 | 0 Comments

Hello, world!

With everything else I’ve got going on in my life, part of me thinks that signing up for something like this was a complete waste of time, but while putting all of that hullabaloo aside, I think it’s time to step out of my comfort zone and really dive into this. It’s time to take all of these characters out of my head (and dreams) and bring them to life, one day at a time.

February’s Drawi a Day is great but November’s 30 Characters Challenge takes a daily drawing regiment to a whole new level. You’re not just drawing every day, you’re creating, you’re giving your figures purpose and individuality. This isn’t fan art. It’s your art! That’s what makes this challenge awesome!

So, what will I be bringing to the table? I’ll bring a mixture of superheroes and villains, sci-fi and fantasy with a little bit of humor. Ok…so maybe a little more humor. I like creating characters out of the norm. You won’t find some all-powerful superhero with laser beam eyes and super strength in my bunch. No sir!

And there might be waffles involved. 😛

Most of my work is digital, either done through Adobe Photoshop 7 or Paint Tool Sai. On the days I won’t be home and near my trusty art machine, I guess I’ll have to bring along a sketchbook so I don’t miss a day. If missing a day of this challenge is like missing a day in an AP class, then I best prepare myself ahead of time.

2011 Challenger: Spesiria

| October 30, 2011 | 6 Comments

Uuh I hope I’m doing this right. Anyway, hey!

I’m Spesiria (actually, I do have a real name, but real names are overrated), an artist/writer/history student from the Netherlands. I absolutely love coming up with stories, original worlds/universes and most of all, original characters, so this 30 Characters Challenge is a perfect way to spend my November! I have one world where all my characters live in. Having a boner for history, I thought it might be interesting to combine this challenge with some world-building and create important historical figures from that world for each day. You can expect most of my characters to be total jerks, and if you don’t like men with facial hair, you probably shouldn’t keep an eye on me.

I’m looking forward to it (also hope that I can combine it with school work, ahaha…!) and would like to wish you all the best of luck. Oh, if you want to see my work, visit my DeviantART account here.

2011 Challenger: Elizabeth Santen

| October 30, 2011 | 0 Comments

Hi, there!

My name is Elizabeth (or Jynxie, as I’m called online) from California.  I’m currently a student at a community college and am in the process of writing three stories, though two are still very rough even though they’ve been in the works for almost two years, now.  I found this challenge through a friend on Tumblr and hopefully it’ll give be both a decent challenge and a chance to improve my artistic/writing skills!  And, preferably, it’ll help me get over some writing blocks I’ve been battling for a few months, now.

Good luck and have fun, everyone!

2011 Challenger: J.G. Wither

| October 30, 2011 | 0 Comments

Alright! I have no idea what I’m doing or how I’ll go about doing this, but I might as well bite the bullet and get on with it. This is my first time participating in anything such as this, as well as my first time using this website, so I’m certain to make a slew of mistakes.

There really isn’t much to say about myself other than the obvious–I’m still rather new when it comes to writing; I’ve been playing around with fictional characters and settings for about 10 years now, but have been writing seriously for only 5 or so. I’ve yet to find my niche or “thing” when it comes to fiction, and spend most of my writing time trying out new styles, themes, and whatsits. I’ll admit that I’m probably in over my head when it comes to this, but I’m hoping that this challenge will get me out of this terrible case of Writer’s Block that’s been haunting me for the past year.

Well, that’s pretty much it. Good luck to my fellow participants!

2011 Challenger: Gabe Pinto

| October 30, 2011 | 0 Comments

I just heard about this the other day and thought “Hey, Gabe, you need a challenge.” So I’m gonna attempt to do this.

My name’s Gabe Pinto and I work in animation in NYC. Let’s do this thing!

2011 Challenger: Big Mike Walton/ Quasilucid

| October 30, 2011 | 0 Comments

I’ve toiled as an animator, children’s book illustrator, miscellaneous illustrator, designer, art director, amateur beardsman, and comic book artist and writer.  My Eisner Award-waiting, critically-ignored comic, Dual, debuted through DC Comic’s Zuda imprint in 2008.

Currently, I’m hosting an invitation-only, mini-Comic-Con at my home year round and churning out the short-story webcomic anthology False Positive:

webcomic horror sci-fi fantasy

I’m ready to get my 30 Character Challenge on.

2011 Challenger: Sarah Alpert

| October 30, 2011 | 0 Comments

I’ve always been pretty bad at introducing myself, but here goes.  I live about 4 ft above Maggie Vicknair.  I’m an aspiring comic book writer, who will be using this challenge to work on supporting characters for a series I’ve planned. I might make some side characters for other things — or my other series — if I’m really stuck.  I’m really stoked for this.  My favorite color is red.

2011 Challenger : Edgardo G. Salomon

| October 30, 2011 | 0 Comments

Edgardo G. SalomonGood day folks! I’m Edgardo G. Salomon, 2011 SCAD-Atlanta Alumni, Freelance Sequential Artist, wanderer by habit and overall nice guy from Atlanta.

On the past I’ve taken on other challenges such as the 24 Hour Comic. When I heard of this challenge, I decided to give it a try, considering that not only will it help keep the creative juices flowing, but also will help me clear my mind from some ideas that have been lingering in my head for so long and perhaps even get some projects started.

With that said, good luck to all participants and remember: This isn’t about winning or losing, but rather challenging yourself and giving it all you got, for that is the path to self-improvement.

2011 Challenger: Katrina Robertson

| October 30, 2011 | 0 Comments

Oh, I’m getting all lost and confused already.

My name is Katrina but I prefer to be called Lime on the internet please/thank you. It is weird for me otherwise.  I am a freshman in a community college. I hope to transfer to an art college in a few years so I can take up animation.

I look forward to trying this out even though it is super intimidating. Most of my recent art is kept on my computer but I post some things on my tumblr every once in a while. I’ve been avoiding Deviant art all together lately but I will link it anyway. I wish everyone luck with this.

Hi there!

Hello there fellow challangers!

I’m a college student by day, and a — well still a college student by night, but I write comics in the middle of all that.  I have a webcomic (see link below) but I won’t be using any chracters from that world, instead I hope to mine my brain for new stuff.

2011 Challenger: Issac Miller

| October 30, 2011 | 0 Comments

Hello! I am Issac Miller from Michigan. I’m nothing special, only a Sophomore in High School. (Who would love to strive both for Illustration but as well as the Astronomy/Physics field.) None the less I will be doing this in development for my plots that I always have running around in my head and strive to do something with these.   I rather need the characters for stories and plots that arn’t filled or make a brand new one from scratch.  Hopefully this will be good for me. Even if I am not the best artist I love to develop characters, so can’t wait to have fun with this!

My pages for art are on my Tumblr (Well, my art blog):  http://letsrollkato.tumblr.com/ and my Deviantart: http://sic-caveat.deviantart.com/ but I will warn you that neither sites are really updated since most of my art is rather not posted on either but stored some where on my computer and neither are any of my best.

Other then my reason for being here I wish all the rest of you artists and writes luck! Can’t wait to see what you guys all come up with.

This is my first attempt on this kind of marathon, best of luck to everyone!

2011 Challenger: Paul Allor

| October 30, 2011 | 0 Comments

Hello, all! My name’s Paul Allor, and I’m a comic-book writer. I recently completed Clockwork, a collection of 12 five-page stories written by me and drawn by a group of truly wonderful artists.

I’m also on staff at Andy Schmidt’s Comics Experience, where I manage the book club. And I’m a member of The Brutal Circle writers’ group.

Since I’m a writer, my posts will be pretty much exclusively text-based. I’m not sure yet what form they’ll take. I’ll figure it out as I go along! Good luck to everyone. I look forward to checking out some of the awesome work that’s produced. Oh, and many thanks to Tyler James for putting this together and making it all possible.

2011 Challenger: Brandon Echter

| October 30, 2011 | 0 Comments

Oh jeez. So, basics – I’m Brandon, early 20s, living in Jersey City and working in New York for a literary nonprofit. I also like to fancy myself a bit of an amateur writer, although I’ve been horribly out of practice of late. I can’t draw to save my life, but I have written and collaborated on a couple of nonpublished, incomplete comics in the past. I have a story world in my back pocket – not sure if it’d be for comics or a novel – so I’ll probably start off populating that. I’ll be simulposting on my terrible tumblr.

Okay, so I’ve tried the Nano thing twice, but for some reason November conspires against me and I get caught up in work or classes or whatever. Plus, I’m much more of the character sketch/short story type of writer, and my skills have been getting super rusty due to neglect/work. So this may be tough… anyway, enough rambling. Good luck, y’all!

2011 Challenger: Liam Purdy

| October 30, 2011 | 5 Comments

Hello I’m Liam from Ohio. I’ve been doing comics for a while and really like character building, so this seems like a fun way to spend my November. I’m really busy right now, so I don’t know how realistic it is but it should be fun to try. What you can probably expect is a bunch of non-fantastical characters that have minor issues that they blow out of proportion. I’m a psychology senior and like to make characters that have issues whose solution is only unavailable because of mental fallacies or barriers, rather than material barriers. Also lots of dads. I will be simultaneously updating on my Tumblr: http://gravitationaltim.tumblr.com/ and my Deviantart is here: http://and-also-dinosaurs.deviantart.com/

Oh lordy, not only am I doing NaNoWriMo I am doing this. I like to think I’m creative so I thought this would be a fun undertaking.

I am a part time film student and a part time Internet cartoon uploading person. Sadly due to not being able to draw worth spit I have decided to go down the writers lane. Wish me luck as I wish it too you.

2011 Challenger: David B Cooper!

Hey fellas (and fella-ettes!)

I’m David B Cooper, an illustrator and cartoonist working in Glasgow. I have an art-blog, where I’ll also be posting characters, and my twice weekly updating webcomic, Perpendicular Universe.

Really looking forward to diving into this, might try a variety of styles and approaches. Wish me luck, and follow along on Twitter! Looking forward to what everyone else comes up with.

2011 Challenger: Darren Baker

| October 30, 2011 | 0 Comments

Hello character creators! My name is Darren, I’m drawing from my home in the UK and thought I’d give this a shot. I’d like to see it through to the end – seems like a good way to ensure I do at least one drawing a day outside of work.

I love all things comic book, sci-fi and geek. I have aspirations of becoming a writer and love to draw and flesh out my ideas. I use an old Toshiba Tecra tablet laptop, because I cant afford a Cintiq and love messing around on Photoshop and Manga Studio. Fancy myself a whizz in the kitchen and grow a lot of my own food. I heard about this via iFanboy.com. I’m going to have to give Arkham City a wide berth for November or I’ll never deliver all 30 characters.

Best of luck to creators, you can find me on facebook and as @xom_darren on twitter and instagram.
