Day 6 – Rezoniel

| November 10, 2011 | 0 Comments

Rezoniel is an angel of the Heavenly Host. Beautiful and awe-inspiring to look at, his long hair flows down his back and his 4 wings are broad in span. He works around the Silver City aiding his brothers in whichever ways he can. He is smaller and leaner in stature than many of his brethren, but is able to hold his own where it matters.

Rezoniel only has one want in his existence other than to continue his service to the Lord, and that is to ensure that his good friend Malachy is returned to the Silver City in good health and faith. To this end, he has been working in secret to assist Malachy in his quest for knowledge, by passing him information from the vast library held within the Silver City.

Rezoniel knows that what he is doing is rife with danger; if the Seraphim were to find out what he is doing then there would be a very real risk of him being expelled from the Holy City; and if the daemons found out there is an information source coming out of Heaven then attempts may be made to infiltrate it.

Rezoniel believes that Malachy would be a strong asset in the defence of good, and does not like seeing his friends head turned. He believes that for Heaven to be as strong as it can be, and offer itself as the beacon of light and hope that it should be, all angels should be standing together as one, and he’s now seeking to end the in-fighting between choirs.

For all his abilities, Rezoniel always errs on the side of caution, to the point where he will often pull completely away from a course of action because it does not feel right. Some see this as a form of weakness in his character, and seek to take advantage of it. This causes him to be more cautious and insular, often keeping masses of information to himself.

Day 5 – Faumast

| November 10, 2011 | 0 Comments

Faumast is a mid-level demon, a basic humanoid form, with a number of differences. He has a hunched back, and his face is elongated and narrow-chinned. His wrists bend back in towards his forearms, constantly cutting at his veins with talon-like nails. His powerful legs are short, with a single bony protrusion from his left knee.

He wants to be more powerful. He has, throughout the ages, gathered a smattering of backing from lesser and same-level demons, and has grown to crave more. He has sown deceit and ill-feeling whilst continuing his power-collation. And now he’s using the confusion and rumours to try and grasp more, in a bid to gain more backing so as to form a coup on the throne of Hell.

If he doesn’t get enough backing, any attempted coup would be easily defeated, and he would be sent back down the levels of hell, becoming a subservient of those whom he has tricked, cheated, and angered. Faumast does not want this, and will battle tooth and nail, metaphorically as he would prefer to not to dirty his talons, to remain in his current standing if he cannot go further.

The on-going rumours of the second coming have set waves of fear and hope about the dwellers of Hades. Faumast believes that this offers him an ideal opportunity to get closer to Lucifer and cement his position as a true power in Hell.

Getting what you want is never easy though, especially in a society that loathes and distrusts you in equal measures. And mix that in with the highly powerful, dangerous and charismatic beings that stand in your way, and you better have some pretty strong followers, both philosophically and physically. Faumast may not be there yet, but maybe soon, and then we’ll see.

Day 4 – The G-Men

| November 10, 2011 | 1 Comment

The G-Men are the collection of Grotesques and Gargoyles situated all around the city. They do nothing other than watch the day and night activities 24/7. They silently gather all information on the denizens; who, what, where, when and how. They have been present since the initial building of the city, put there by person or persons unknown. They have a working arrangement with a select number of entities for the sharing of the information, including certain angels and law enforcement agents.

They have no interest in why the citizens are doing what they are doing; they only have a desire to ensure the city is protected from threat.

There is currently no evidence to suggest that anything would happen should their protection fail. After all, no-one other than a select few are aware of their existence, and they haven’t broached the subject. Needless to say, it is believed that any attack on the city would not be met without some form of defence.

With the upcoming struggles, the G-Men are mentally preparing themselves for any potential action that they may have to take.

Day 3 – The Ineffables

| November 10, 2011 | 0 Comments

The Ineffable are a choir of angels specifically created for the task of collecting the Angelic and/or Daemonic entities that don’t belong on Earth, and deposit them back to where they need to be. Stern, tough, stoic and completely unmoved by emotions, they relentlessly track their quarry until it is caught. They commonly work in pairs, but have also been known to work in larger groups where circumstances dictate. They never work alone, but they can be distracted into such a state. They utilise the secretive information source known as the G-Men to aid their tracking.

As this is a Holy task given by the Lord, it must be completed. There is no time limit for the Ineffable to complete their tasking, and as more of the Host slip away from the Silver City, or escape/are released from the Pits, their role gets more intense. It is no easy task however, as the beings that are being hunted have no desire to return, or at least at the current moment. The hunted will defend themselves against this decree, either by tooth and claw, or by running away to save their new-found existence.

The rumours of the second coming have thrust the hordes of evil into action – they hope that by corrupting the young soul of the new-born messiah, they can gain major footholds in the on-going war, and steal a great march in the upcoming battle. As such, The Ineffable have been more focused on putting the Daemons back into Hell.

#10 – Mr. Porkus

| November 10, 2011 | 1 Comment

Mr. Porkus is a local food expert. An ally, he can tend to be a shadow for glutinous yearnings. Rooted in the sensual, he exists for the delights of eating and tends to become what he eats. To that degree, he’s also a harbinger/herald of people who need affirmation from the physical universe, instead of taking responsibility for their creations.

| November 10, 2011 | 0 Comments

Akoko is one of the younger urchins of the Grotto, a network of caves set into the limestone cliffs of the Riami Divide, underneath the twisting switchbacks of the cliffside city Pes Riami. Akoko is a minor character in the story – she’s not particularly clever or skilled at anything, and with her young age comes a short attention span. She’ll often be given tasks by the older urchins to earn her keep, but otherwise her role is to simply be the most adorable thing to walk the earth.

The brightly colored and intricately patterned linens that Birgir and Oletha sport are beyond the means of most people, and certainly beyond the means of a street child. The delicate linens wouldn’t likely last long in Akoko’s care anyway, so it’s fortunate she is content with the many cheap baubles she finds or is given, or occasionally buys with ‘Marks’ that serve as an internal currency system in the Grotto.

#9 David Wise IS The Hard Man

| November 10, 2011 | 0 Comments

David Wise IS The Hard Man

The Hard Man

Growing up poor in the worst parts of Glasgow, David Wise saw the results of violence firsthand – and chose a different path. He went to school, moved to London, and became first a poet and then a journalist, to pay the bills. In his off time he was an activist, doing what he could to reduce violence of all kind – gangs, military, police, domestic abuse. Catching wind of an illegal military experiment, he broke into their lab to gather evidence. It all went wrong, and he was exposed to whatever the substance was they were testing.

Whatever it was, it made him… enhanced. With sharper senses, a more agile mind, and improved observations, his poetry reached levels undreamed of, and his journalism more sharp-edged and perceptive. Along with this, however, a long-repressed aggression grew as well. Now stronger and tougher, he realized that the practice of these new sensory abilities increased his propensity for violence, and he began to stalk the streets at night, searching for answers via the medium of punches with a Statham-esque intensity. But he’s unable to let go of the improvement in his work, so he attempts to channel the violence towards those he feels deserve it.

He now searches for more answers about his condition and the people behind the experiment, while finding those worthy of his fists at night. As his life starts to fall apart, his only connections are to a lonely and outmatched night policeman, and to a rowdy mob of thugs, ravers, and general hooligans known as THE HOODIE MOB, who act as a network of informants and a Greek chorus of sorts. They seem to show up at very coincidental times, and seem to know more about Wise than they let on, which makes him wonder at times if they’re actually fully real, or some side effect of the experiment. They call him the Hard Man, and to David’s dismay, the name is starting to stick.

10 – Hook by Beausephus+Son

| November 10, 2011 | 0 Comments

CHARACTER NAME: Hook

DATE OF CREATION: Summer 2011

CONCEPT: “He throws hooks at bad guys and hangs them up so the police guys can put them in jail.  He also has goggles that let him see far and into space.”

______________________________________

So when the mood strikes my son (and that is quite often) and he wants to make up “superguys”, “superdudes”, “supermans”… I pull out a bunch of templates I made for him and he picks out everything from the style of boots to the color scheme of the various costume options presented before him.  I then draw quick sketch, and he edits, adds, etc…  I then draw up the character and he hangs them in his room…if they meet his ultimate judgement.  Then I make him come up with a story for each character.

____________________________________________

My son loves my carabiners, and is really interested in the climbing gear he sees the teachers at our school use and loves the climbing gear section at REI.  He also loves the very concept of grappling hooks.  When he wanted to use hooks in a character design, I misinterpreted and started small…a hook handed pirate character in goggles.  My son was not amused.  He wanted bigger and better hooks, and ropes, and a bear skin cape.  Where he got that last idea, I have no idea.  So HOOK was eventually a character who is tricked out with hooks and ropes of various styles and sizes…  And he uses them as stated above, to hang bad guys up from light posts like Spider-Man and Batman.  That’s pretty much it.

I like this character mainly for the ridiculous amount of hooks and rope, but really the bear skin cape puts HOOK over.  Full disclosure – I did not re-draw this character and I am posting an older sketch.  Time is tight this week.  I will draw a revamped version this weekend and add it below this post.

Thanks for checking my stuff out.

#5 Shrapnel

| November 10, 2011 | 3 Comments

Art by Michael Powell (@mpowelljr)
Words by Rolando Garcia (@roshow)

Shrapnel was raised the kind of feral kid that only exists in cities or woods. His parents were homeless most of  his childhood. He ran away from foster care and lived by himself for years. He’d sleep in alleys, squat in abandoned buildings, steal food and do whatever he could to stay alive.

His peculiar talent of growing broken glass-like crystals from his skin manifested at a younger age than usual for people with metabilities. For years the timid boy only used it defensively – no one is going to harass the homeless boy spending the the night behind the dumpster if the boy is covered in broken glass. Then he met Uproar who taught him to use his powers more “proactively,” and become an effective muscle. Shrapnel took to being an enforcer like a fish to water.

Today, Shrapnel is one of the most feared men in the Ultra City underworld. He’s still the right hand man of Uproar to whom he is forever grateful for giving him direction in life. Shrapnel is also learning some new tricks, including how to project his crystals like flying shards of glass. But he’s never lost that feral instinct and if he thinks you’re a  threat, he will come at you with all he’s got and never let up.

professor potter one day felt

a special urge inside himself

that people might just understand

and make a few less demands

if each and every one of us would roast

from the fear we fear the most

based on that he made a tool

that would play our minds the fool

and with a laugh he gulped a potion

that he might be free of the commotion

just before his breath was gone

he swiftly turned the power on.

the machine it hummed and jerked like mad

but he soon went from glad to mad.

his rage soon it knew no bounds.

because the machine now made no sound.

it sat most still and quietly.

and the dying professor did not see

over madness’s darkened rim.

the first revenge was just for him.

#9 Colbrah

| November 10, 2011 | 0 Comments

Colbrah

Age: unknown (never disclosed)
Place of Origin: Latvita
Height: 5′ 9″
Eye color: changes with the seasons

Colbrah is mysterious, but what he lacks in comunication, he shows in skill. He is an explosives expert.
This guy can fight along side Hans and Didrik, that is how he became acquainted when they were
hijacking a mercantile ship. Colbrah has a maniacal attitude when he fights and rude when he talks
to others. He loves to blow stuff up, always a plus when they are people and mermaids. He is partially
deaf because of all the explosions he has made, that is why whenever a mermaid sings he goes up to them
and hands them explosives. He likes being partially deaf because he prefers to be in silence anyways.
He likes cats, steel knifes, fire, gold knifes, cannons, anything that uses gun powder, buried treasure,
silver coins and seafood. He also likes big ships, and Zohar’s crew (although he does not like to admit it).

#9 – Sheldon the Mysterious Ninja

Nothing is known about Sheldon’s past, or who he is, but he is a ninja who shows up at random moments either to assist those in need for whatever reason, or to punish the criminals he spots as he wanders around.

This guy views himself as somewhat of a professional, but is open to advice.

Meldsen, Tech Master from My Novel “Mentor”.

| November 10, 2011 | 4 Comments

2011 Day 09 Tech Master Meldsen from my Novel "Mentor"
~~~
Meldsen
Meldsen is the Tech Master for Upper City in my novel “Mentor”. He plays a key role in that he is Phipp’s immediate superior, and that he alone is responsible for the smooth functioning of everything that makes  Upper City the sparkling vivaceous, comfortable and above all safe home of its human citizens. He’s even been know to go out of his way to repair areas of the City that are populated mostly by Nons and Synths.
He’s a gruff, no-nonsense old guy who still has a few tricks up his sleeve and he sees some things that others might not like to know he sees. But he also knows how to keep his mouth shut.
He dislikes the finery and pageantry  that people and the media and corporations keep trying to foist on him. He’s a plain man. He wears the robes when he has to, and weilds his magic when he must or when he has a point to make. But mostly, he and his boys wander in the Labyrinth that is the maze of tech tunnels all woven around and through the MAICS (the Master Artificial Intelligence Computer System) and the City itself.
Without his guidance, and the help of his heirarchy of apprentices there would be no more holos, replicators, food, clothing, and worst of all no more Grid. So when he begins to find anomalies in the MAICS code, and weapon grade lasers substituted for harmless pencil lasers in an exercise droid, he begins to count his assets, among them Phipp (see #8- previous sketch and writeup), and a handful of Synth engineers under his tutelage. Perhaps together they can cross the heaving social bounds and prevent catastrophe.
Look at me, finally remembering to sign things! Anywho, this is Joan, a yoga master! She’s obviously a laid back gal when it comes to yoga, but if you catch her outside of the studio she is a walking ball of energy! She’s not crazy or anything, she just loves life. Like a lot.
Can’t say I’m too proud of this one.  I said I was going to be doing some experimentation, and that’s what we have here.  In this case, it was working with colored line-art.  Froyota is some kind of ultimate fighter with a big beard and afro.  He’s way more likely to take a fall than win a match – just don’t mess with his Camry.
#10 Mocha
Mocha is a corythosaurus and also Sweets’ best friend! He has a very different taste, however, as he doesn’t quite care for sweet foods. He would love to be a coffee house mascot, though
